Go there (http://www.thelemon.net/issues/timeline.php)

1994 - First piece of spam appears in USENET newsgroups and is quickly removed. "Well, that should be the last of that", say users.

I'm dying,  whats funnier is its not that far from the truth.

Of course, I'm laughing so hard, but trying not to make a sound while surrounded by co-workers,   (whispers "is he crying or is he laughing")

Damn, now my chest hurts.

Funnest stuff is Apple.   I had a IIc in 87-88,  when we got Zenith 286's  (military contract) , I had to unlearn Prodos and learn Dos.

Anyone else have "Prodigy" back in the 80's? I figured it was a stupid waste of money at the time.... LOL

I used a local bbs when I was at Mtn Home in 93 and 94.  I think I had a Prodigy account for about one month, didnt use it.
When I got stationed at Ramstein in late 94 I used Compuserve, for about a year but the closest pop was in Frankfurt and I learned after the first phone bill that was too expensive, I think I had about 250dm bill for only a few hours of online time.  that was also when I bought my "uber" P60 with a 500mg HD and 2mgs Ram.
Once we got a local bbs near Vogleweh in 1996 life got a lot better and my telecom bill got alot lower.

I still dont understand what anybody needs AOL for

AOL is good if you have kids.

Nope, I have kids,  14, 12, and 6.   Still dont need AOL .
all 3 pc's have passwords,  I have to log them on,  they cant get online unless my wife or I are home.   Systems are password protected, they cant download anything or install anything without my password.

Nothing beats parental supervision.

"Real Audio released, allowing users to listen to halting bursts of static in real time." <--- one of the best things I've ever read in my whole entire life. I think RA is about 1 step removed from a virus.
