Title: B5N2
Post by: Rutilant on May 26, 2003, 05:57:17 AM
This thing.... is really funny...

Not like it's a threat, but...

It can turn on a dime.. It can turn on a flea with flaps out.
It can hover along level with flaps at 50-60mph, zoomclimb 500ft and then do a 180 with the stallbuzzer hardly going.. it can loop and loop and loop and loop and loo...

 and then loop some more..

Too bad it has no forward facing weapons.....

Perk the B5N2!

You'll laugh about it for a month if you bounce someone in it.

its a good gv killer with 250kg bombs too. I landed 9 kills in the CT with it, and 4/5 in MA with it - popping panzers!

For some reason, in AW the kate had to forward firing guns, 7.9 mm I think. Used to have lots of fun furballing around carriers in it. A great plane, and one of the purdier ones around too imho.

Sounds like the AW guy's screwed up, no kates had forward firing gun's.

Ya I use to plink GV's it is good fun, and landing a string of kill's in a Kate is prety fun to:), I wacked a Hellcat with the tail gun one night to, I hurt myself laughing:)

The Val is pretty fun too... looping near the ground, with the non-retractable landing gear, I've managed to bottom out, hit the gear, and bounce back into the air.  It kind of flattens out the bottom of the loop a bit :)  Anyone silly enough to follow seems to auger.

Yes, the Val is a great plane to fly for scout bombing missions, as is the SBD but the lighter Val and Kate will sustain turn better than the poor old Slow But Deadly.

I think VHs should have Vals, Kates, Zeroes and SBDs enabled.  Maybe P40Bs as well.  Make them second-tier bases, encourage the use of these planes.

Sakai,

WOW!   What a brilliantly simple idea to get early war planes involved in the MA.  Bravo!!!!
So simple, so simple.

If there is a little bit of wind you can land it on top of a hangar. Just doing touch and goes on the tops of hangers is fun .

In AW I used to land 4-7 kill missions in the Val and Kate.  I also was piloting a fully gunned B-17 once when we were attacked by 7 Kates.  We got them all but I had to call "bail, bail, bail" at about 2k on one engine and the plane smoking and shuddering.

There was one "Combat Aircraft of WWII" I think by Bill Gunston?

That had a reference to two 7.7mms fixed firing forward.  That is the only reference I have seen to that.

It should have guns, just because.  When AW was happenin' I lobbied for introduction of the secret "Cannon Equipped" B5N.  No one took me seriously though.

See, that is the thing right there.  When I buff-gunned, I carried a 40mm Bofors with proximity fuses.  However, when all these other lame donut studmuffingotas gun, they did in fact carry fly swatters.

This should all be modeled accordingly.
