I'm running a P3 700 on win98SE with 256 MB PC100 ram. I know, my machine is dated.
I'm currently running a SB annhilator Pro 32 meg card. I would like to upgrade the video card to a ATI radeon 9000. Is this going to be to much video card? (i.e. the CPU is slower than then card)
Anyone got other suggestions? Thanks

How about upgrading your motherboard, cpu and memory.
AMD XP1700+ newegg $42 shipped
ECS K7S5A PRO newegg 48.95 shipped
Crucial.com 512MB PC2700 $65.99 shipped free.
Just a thought

I'm running a Plll 1 GHz. with 512 MB of RAM, Windows XP Pro and a Radeon 9000 Pro 128. I get from 60 to 70 fps in Aces High. However I do have to turn off some of the services running in the background in XP.
Hope this helps

Modas, I'd do like pfunk recommended, and use the money to upgrade the motherboard, CPU and RAM first. I don't know what squad you're in, but you can probably find a squaddie or even a stranger on this BBS that would be willing to donate a more powerful video card to you.
The benefit from a faster computer will be significant, not only for playing Aces High. And you can always plop in a fancy new video card later.

32 mb card on that p3 700 isn't winning any awards either, I see why he'd like to upgrade it.
Question is which do you upgrade first?
The Ati 9000 card will run very sweet in his p3 I'm guessing, will improve framerates till he can afford to upgrade his mboard/cpu.
Where if he upgrades system first hes still stuck with an old 32mb video card thats not going to win any awards.
Serviceable, perhaps but nothing to write home about. And he's stuck with it till he can raise another 100$.
Modas remember that advice here is just that, advice. Use it to play devils advocate in your head, but when your done do it your way.
btw love my 9000 pro 128 mb :)
