Title: A Vet and Police Officer lost
Post by: Maverick on May 27, 2003, 11:27:24 PM
On Memorial day in Tucson we lost a Police Officer in the line of duty. He was investigating a hit and run and located the suspect. The suspect ran on foot and the Officer pursued. Shots were fired by the suspect and the Officer was killed.

Officer Hardesty was a Marine Veteran for 10 years, was a Reserve Police Officer for 11 years then went full time 18 months ago. He leaves a wife and 3 kids 13 to 7.

The suspect is under arrest, a 33 year old career criminal who happened to have a fender bender and then killed over it. A real hero killed by a lousy excuse for a human being.

to all who died in defense of country and comunity.

Officer Hardesty, may you rest peacefully.

I hate how some of our veterans survive service and then are taken away by despicable scum like this...

There is a local radio station that is taking donations for the family. It is KRQ but I don't know which bank is doing the financial handling of it. I'll try to find out.

GTO,
here is the address. send any check to Tucson Police Dept. 270 S. Stone Av. Tucson AZ. 85701

Make it out to, TPOA (Patrick K. Hardesty Fund)

Thanks for the offer.

Update to the original story. This piece of crap was arrested before for attempted murder for shooting another person. The witness, is his girlfriend and the mother of his child, she recanted her story. The shooting victim was hit in the head and cannot remember what happened or testify so he got away with it.

In this case the walking turd ambushed Officer Hardesty during the chase and shot him 5 times. Two of the hits were in the vest, the others were not. Hardesty died never being able to get his own weapon out of the holster.

The girlfriend has already been quoted in the paper that he didn't do anything he should be killed for and she is afraid he will be sent to prison for several years. He's not a "bad guy". She also said she's sorry about "the cop".  She's the one who turned this turd onto meth.
He had prior convictions for felony sale of marijuana and other drug and weapon ofenses. All felonies.

Truly a sad story!
Law enforcement is a very under paid and under appreciated profession.

The funeral line was long, and there's awful lot of cars,
Folks came out of the restaurants, they came out of the bars.
The workers at the construction sites, all let their hammers drop.
Someone asked. "What is this all for?" And they said, "Aw, just a cop."
Some chuckled at the passing cars. Some shed a silent tear
Some people said, "It's stupid," "All these dumb policemen here."
"How come they are not out fighting crime?" "Or in a doughnut shop?"
Sure is a lot of trouble, for someone who's just a cop."
They blocked the intersections, They blocked the interstate.
People yelled and cursed, "Damn, it's gonna make me late!"
"This is really ridiculous!" "They're making' us all stop!"
"It seems they are sure wasting' time, "On someone who's just a cop."

Into the cemetery now, the slow procession comes, the woeful Taps are slowly played,
There's loud salutes from guns. The graveyard workers shake their heads "This service is a flop."
"There's lots of good words wasted," "On someone who's just a cop"

Yeah, just a cop to most folks. Did his duty every day.
Trying to protect us, till they took his life away.
And when he got to heaven, St. Peter put him at the top.
An angel asked him, "Who was that?" And he said, "Aw, just a cop."

The Judgment:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass.  He hoped his shoes were shinning, just as brightly as his brass.  "Step forward now, Officer, "How shall I deal with you?
"Have you always turned the other cheek? "To my church have you been true?"

The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been violent because the streets are tough. But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.  And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much, but if you don't...I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly, for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, you've done your time in hell"

Maverick,

Not sure where I first came across these but I keep them nearby always.

22 years service with my department now, I know how hard the feeling of loss is when a brother falls.
