Well, I have decided to go for it (my own aviation art business). I have lots of information and a few good ideas on the business end of things. Now it's time to draw!
I haven't put anything on canvas in 4 years, and am very rusty. But the decision has been made, and best of all I have my wife's support. I've also decided to get into WW2 related work as well as my fast jets. This picture will serve as a 'warm up', and I will probably do a total of 3 in black-and-white before I switch back to color.
So the scenario is: Late war over the skies of Europe. Through a stroke of fate 2 master fighter pilots have found themselves together on pretty even beginning terms. What 2 aircraft shall it be?
I would like to hear your suggestions, and I will pick one winning suggestion and draw it out to the best of my ability. For the winner I will give (well I can't promise a print of the finished work since I don't have that worked out yet). But for the suggestion that sounds the best I will give a digital photo of the finished work at the resolution of your choice.

Change it to early war and Malan Vs. Moelders :)
or WWI 56 Squadron Vs. Voss
"I shall never forget my admiration for that German pilot, who single handed, fought seven of us for ten minutes . . . I saw him go into a fairly steep dive and so I continued to watch, and then saw the triplane hit the ground and disappear into a thousand fragments, for it seemed to me that it literally went into powder." James McCudden
"His flying was wonderful, his courage magnificent and in my opinion he is the bravest German airman whom it has been my privilege to see fight." James McCudden
"If I could only have brought him down alive..." Arthur Rhys Davids to James McCudden

P47 vs FW190, If you want to add depth put a b17 formation in the distance with flak hits around em.
Glad to see your going to give it a shot.
:)

Sally Strudders(sp?) Vs. Gary Coleman
-
109 defending his homeland from attacking b17's (little dots in background - many of them) against impossible odds as he is outnumbered by P51D's of superior numbers.
the scene would be a close up of the 109/P51 conflict ( maybe the 51 following the 109 up in a zoom) with other 51's (much smaller) in the foreground showing they out number the vailant defenders. Waves B17's (formation dots) in background.
gl with your project and biz venture

If this is goin to be your inaugural print, I would suggest that the main character be America's #1 ace in the ETO ..
Lt. Col. Francis S. "Gabby" Gabreski
Scored 28 kills with 56th Fighter Group in WWII
in his P-47 ... what is the other plane ? ... Gabby's first kill.
"The 56th trained during March and adopted the "finger four" tactical formation. In keeping with his rank of Captain, Gabby was made commander of the 61st Squadron's 'B' flight (nine pilots). On April 1, 1943, the Group moved to Horsham St. Faith, about 100 miles northeast of London. They flew their first combat missions in mid-April. They saw more combat in May, some pilots scoring, a few others being shot down, but action continued continued to elude Gabby. He was finally able to claim a damaged FW-190 on May 15, 1943, but didn't encounter any more opposition for the next month."

put a B17 on the bottom left flying towards the horizon (top right), a 190 on the right side diving on it...and a P38 on the 190's 6 :D
-
109 G10 putting 30mm slugs HO into a B17 which is starting to desintegrate.
-
Red Dog.. I'd say the 63rd 47D-11 against the III JG 26 Abbeyville-Boys 109 G6
I'll be your fist customer :D
-
The first combat engagements between the P-47's and FW-190's. Imagine the German's surprise at seeing such a huge fighter for the first time. Imagine the American's surprise at seeing a German fighter for the first time. Who will take this battle? Who will win?
I've got a title
"Lets get it on!"

Airboss wasn't that the name of the Dunst Teen Cheerleading movie? Ahh that was a good Eye candy movie indeed :D

P47 and BF-110 any model..
-
Late war over the skies of Europe? Why, the P51D shooting down a rookie pilot in a 109K or something like that.
-
63rd FS P-47M (blue camo) against Me-262 of JV-44. :) Show them in a high speed merge with both pilots head turned looking at the other plane--imaging what must be going through their heads. The P-47 might be bringing a wingman or three along.

Ju-88 nightfighter tearing a cowardly lanc to shreds.
-
Hiya Reddog,
May I suggest 2
Robert S. Johnson's P-47 vs. Hans Philipp's FW-190
Lawrence Thompson in 51-D vs. Erich Hartmann's 109 G-11
-
It's late in the war, just the wrong one. Still, it's one of the greatest accounts of bravery by a single pilot that I've heard of in a long time.
Billy Barker (http://www.acepilots.com/wwi/can_barker.html)
Definitelly worth a picture or 10.
-
The part in question is Barker's dogfight that earned him the Victoria Cross.
-
P-51 vs 190 (with bomber formation in background)
-
Tony Jonsson fighting 1 vs 2 in his Spitfire against the 109, at sea level over the English channel, in his FIRST combat sortie on the 10th of September 1941. Tony got through this one unscratched, while both 109's were shot down shortly after by his squadronmates.
OR....Adolph Galland (109) vs R.S.Tuck (Spit) in the BoB, - both lost their wingmen.
Malan vs Moelders have been mentioned.
Anyway, Spit vs 109 is the classic, aint it?
-
Red, what's wrong............that's easy, a P47 blowing away anything.;)

I think some inferior aircraft going toe to toe with a later model enemy plane. Then the title be something like "It's not the plane, but the pilot that really matters"
-
Then we were at 30,000 feet and I couldn't believe it! I'd gone to church as a kid, and I knew that's where the angels were and that's when I named my airplane 'Angels Playmate.'
"Then a bunch of Germans roared down through us, and my leader immediately dropped tanks and turned hard for home. But I'm not that smart. I'm 19 years old and this SOB shoots at me, and I'm not going to let him get away with it.
"We went round and round, and I'm really mad because he shot at me. Childish emotions, in retrospect. He couldn't shake me, but I couldn't get on his tail to get any hits either.
"Before long, we're right down in the trees. I'm shooting, but I'm not hitting. I am, however, scaring the hell out of him. I'm at least as excited as he is. Then I tell myself to calm down.
"We're roaring around within a few feet of the ground, and he pulls up to go over some trees, so I just pull the trigger and keep it down. The gun barrels burned out and one bullet, a tracer, came tumbling out and made a great huge arc. It came down and hit him on the left wing about where the aileron is.
"He pulled up, off came the canopy, and he jumped out, but too low for the chute to open and the airplane crashed. I didn't shoot him down, I scared him to death with one bullet hole in his left wing. My first victory wasn't a kill; it was more of a suicide.
pitcure it in your mind then paint it.

Time to press on, and I have to say there have been many great ideas. Thanks for all your input and well-wishes.
One idea stood out to me and really got my curiosity up about what it might look like. I was thinking about the late war when the LW was beginning to field their more exotic stuff. I think a couple P-47s taking a high-speed pass with a 262 for the first time would make a great picture. Watch this space for updates.
After this is finished, I'm going to make a run of 2 more originals, and will give some photos of how I do this first drawing. If there's enough interest I will keep posting pics here. I'm getting a makeshift website up and will probably just post thumbnails there or something. Been looking into Nevada Corporations as well.

Just a small update. I had some time so I worked a bit on the upper sky and cleaned up the clouds a little. You can see on the right where I marked the spot where the 262 will go. Since I'm left handed I'll probably work the rest of the drawing from right-to-left.
Best part is, I'm having a blast. Stay tuned.

I seem to have the same problem with other Road Runner accounts. Not sure why.
I sent it to your work addy, but there is a large attachment (1Meg)..hope that isn't a problem.

Got it, Curval. Attachments are not a problem here at work. It's good to be the E-mail Administrator :)
