Please, for the love of all that is good, get rid of the dark.
I frequently dont have the time, nor lately much desire, to play this game. When I get a spare moment to play this game I DO NOT LIKE seeing blackness when I log in.
Please, save it for special events.
-
Yes...what are the Pros of having night time? Relieving bandwith on the server from many logging off?

punt

No. Please don't get rid of night-time. BUT please do modify it. Night-time under a full moon is actually quite light once your eyes get attuned. While other aircraft won't be so visible (unless their cockpit lights are on), there should be no problem seeing the ground and buildings. How else do you think they were able to effectively bomb at night? Nor should there be difficulty reading instrumentation.
-
All night currently does is make it dark.. hard to see.. and even the is useless because of the big neon red tags. It isnt immersive, it isnt fun, it's just plain gamey.
The night is a good concept, perpetual day would get rather boring. But, there are no perks to night other than giving the odd low-level lanc carpet bombing better survivability.
HTC already modeled some really nice lighting effects (Cockpit lights.. (the combat trim ones, gear, etc..) from fire if you pull next to it during the night)
You could get rid of it, which would be a better short term solution with AH2 in the works, simple as changing the morning and evening settings.
After AH2 comes out, however, it would be a good idea to fix it.
Some of my suggestions are.. Add some spotlights on the fields, possible from the ack guns, that follow that ack's target. (Only a few should have lights..)
More (hell, if we have any now) field lighting, hangar lights, lightposts, etc..
Landing lights!
Possibly for TOD and scenario use..
If the radar is disabled or changed, we could use the radar on radar-equipped night fighters and bombers. (Mossy, 110, etc..) that would illuminate a set radius, of if possible, be effected by hills and mountains. It could also increase tag range, or if no tags are used, have them appear.. Maybe 1 perk for use, or maybe none, since not everyone is gonna wanna be flying a Mossie for it's radar..
[Edit] Nononoooooo, what was i thinking? not illuminate, give dot dar coverage to an area smaller than that of a field dar but not -too- smal.

Dump the night and keep the dusk/dawn,maybe even extend the length of duck/dawn,when night comes (usually at the only time of day I can play) I log,and I know a LOT of folks feel the same way,BIG turn off, hate it.
-
JOOOOOOOOOOOOC! Nooo, say it ain't so, you've joined the Light Side!
-
What, and lose the only reason I duck into the CT to see if there's anything worth doing? Or the DA?
-
I agree.
In the MA when night comes around all that happens is that it gets dark. No other changes occur. And certainly no aspect of true "night fighting" occurs.
So what's the point?
Maybe for AH2 whole groups of missions can be"Night Missions". Using realistic planesets in a manner more resembling WWII night fighting.

I like the night...
just sayin'
tm some old Aw dood.
-
swiming in the orange haze is worse than night, where the moon doesn't get high enough to light up the land.
-
When it is night...
Go man a ships guns...
Night time Fleet battles are a HOOT !!!
IMO, Keep the night...

God please no!
I don't mind night all that much, the neon icons make it flyable. It's dusk and dawn i cant stand. The lighting is better at night than during a sunrise/set. If anything I'd like dusk and dawn gone, but nighttime left in place.
In the current state of the game, anything other than daylight is just plain gamey.
-
I agreee. I dont hate the dark, and I am very fond of the accurate night sky modeling of the star systems, but until there are dar equipped night fighters, we should go from dusk to dawn.
-
I DO prefer dawn above all..
-
Night sucks. :)
-
maybe dim it then light it again. no dark
-
I don't have a choice, dark monitor already turned up to max brightness & contrast + video card with gamma turned up already + window next to PC + it's summer = Swoop can't even see the ground until the sun is WELL up.

Night is very 'gamey' and I personally dont usually fly durring it because its just silly....you have 2 types of players....those that log off at night, and those who kick up the gamma and POOF! night becomes day.
There are lots of good things that night could bring, like more safety for buffs, if only it wasnt so easy to kick up the gamma....and of course the neon icons. I think night would be much better if it were more like under the clouds dark than the pitch black it is now.....till you gamma-riz

Agree with Yeager.

Night dose stink but its fun for NOE sneaks and really forces you to use your instruments. I say keep it dark

pfffft....Keep the night.... it's the best time to practice CV night landings. try it, you like it.
:D
-
Keep the night!
-
Yeah the night suxx for us colorblind folk. So I usually just get a tank and use the night to cover my drive to a base to lump it up.:D
-
Good point Alf. I guess some people can turn night into day with their hardware, and the icons should be very dimm.
-
Simulate that AH is global , different time zones for diff countries.
-
Have nite time last 5 minutes..It'll keep the the sunrises/sets.
-
Night is for girlscouts....blind girlscouts.
C'mon Dale....for the love of the sane majority, do something out of the kindness of your heart for once....oh yeah....you're a heartless putz:)

Who ever said flying at night was easy? I've yet to come over any info that a pilot in WWII expecially liked night. Well actually 1 or 2 but only because of the theory "if i cant see him maybe he wont see me". Night does need some adjusting tho, it is VERY hard to see a target even when he is in icon range.
I also completly agree with adding lights to nearby bases, ive seen alot of ppl die landing at night :D
As of the moment i dont fly at night, i just go afk until the sun shines in again:)

Agree with Yeager. It's a total waste of time and pointless for what's billed as an ACM game based on day VFR fighters.
-
billed as an acm game?
nuts !

VFR also exists at night. Besides, where does it say anywhere in the AH blurb that it is based on day VFR aircraft? Lots of accounts exist where unmodified fighters were used at night during WW2.
What you are complaining about is that it is harder to dogfight at night than in the day. Guess you must get shot down too often at night and don't feel so invincible hey?
I agree that the game doesn't give us exactly what we need to take full advantage of night time (lack of adjustable cockpit lighting for one thing) but quit whining about something that only lasts for a few minutes of each day in the game.
Keep the night, it isn't broken, it gives variety.
-
Ah... no.
There's no basis in any of the various universes of reality for massive use of day VFR fighters in NIGHT combat. I'm sure you'll remember that bombing raids were switched to night (with even more horrendous results with respect to bombing accuracy) to get away from the day VFR fighter threat. That would be because there was essentially no threat from day VFR fighters operating against bombers at night. Ever heard of any massive Day Fighter V Day Fighter combat at night in WW2 either? No, I didn't think you had.
My problem with it is that it gives me two options. Game the game with a gamma adjustment, which makes things barely usable... or don't game the game and have it be unusable, given my old eyes.
If you like night, well, good for you. How about making night start at say midnight Grapevine, Texas time and last till 0600 Grapevine time? Then those who love it can REALLY have an opportunity to fully enjoy it?
And the rest of us who don't can just play at the normal primetime hours in daylight... that time during which most of the day VFR fighters actually fought?
-
I signed on last night... as usual its gettin dark AND I can't find an unporked base to fly from (anywhere near anywhere useful). Worked out ok as by the time I got to a fight, night time was almost over.
Yay for night
Yay for fuel porks
Yay for HTC's statement through silence that everything is fine in Aces High.

NOOOOO! I'm in the same timezone as you and work nights. I'm up nights on days off too. That would ruin my nights. Just get rid of the blackscreen.
Do you think they have night ingame to save on bandwidth? ;)

Certainly not for me ! berk :(
Dawn and dusk are the periods I'm complelty blind whatever gamma setting I try ... it's perhaps related to my color blindness ?

You know the nighttime, is the right time babee
