Anyone Beta testing it?
Anyone have any info on how it looks?
I've gotten one review so far, and it was far from complimetary.
I may give it a try unless I hear it's god aweful.

Can't talk about it ..........
-
Trying to play it.
Can't disclose details. I'll have plenty to say when they lift the NDA.
-
Dowding,
Not talking about Star Wars Galaxies here...
But do you see your time in AH increasing, Deacreasing, or Staying the same, come...oh say July of this year?
-
Well I find hard to find the time to play online these days. I don't play AH much anymore - I'm waiting for AH2. I haven't found much to occupy my online time, gamewise, so little will change. I also seem to get bored easily by new games - I bought F1 2002 and it is now on ebay after only playing it for a couple of hours. I also find that many new games fail to live up to expectations, such as Europa 1400, which is going to Ebay shortly.
Other than that, I'm excited by what Star Wars Galaxies might bring of course.
-
Many game outlets are listing SWG as being released at the end of June.
Taking that into account, and the following formula:
SWG = Time spent playing SWG
AOG = Time spent playing All Other Games
C = A constant
SWG + AOG = C
I predict that come about September, AOG will decrease. :D
-
I'm on Beta
Its...neat...
Not quite my genre....probably wont play much
-
Speaking of MMORPGs - I was looking at Ebay and there are accounts changing hands for hundreds of pounds! What's with that? I was also reading on the SWG board of a guy with 10 (!) Everquest accounts. You gotta feel sorry for that guy.
-
Thanks Mickey....
I think...
hehe...
I never thought that type of math would have come in handy..who knew!
-
I don't know if its hype or not, but wasn't there a story of an addicted player in Everquest committing suicide when his hard-earned player was quashed? Or is that an Urban Legend?
-
Cant say much about SWG because of the NDA, but I can talk about other games.
My "other games" time wont be decreasing.

I sold my Ultima Online account for $150.00 a while back.
I was a mediocre player at best. Had 4 different character, but only 2 were decent.
I've seen accounts go for $500.00.
Funny thing to me, really. Buying an account on a game like this is like buying a jigsaw puzzle that's already been completed. Why bother?

Too weird....and I consider myself bad if I play Aces for more than 2 hours on any given night LOL
-
SWG NDA is now lifted. I would give the product another 30 days before the last of the CTD bugs are fixed, then another 60 days before any really interesting content is present. So I guess my estimation of September was about correct. :D
-
June 26 is the date of release.
It's rubbish. Very little inter-dependency between crafters. Without the licence it would fail.
-
everyone though eve would fail...it seems to be handling it quite well...
you gotta hate that NDA to...(no im not beta testing it...should be involved with dragon empires at some point tho)
-
It'll be like WW2OL in a way.
Big downloads for bookoo patches
But, via its own auto updater..no hunting for this patch, then that
-
NDA is lifted? SWG sucks donkey balls.
Best. Concept. Ever.
Worst. Game. Ever.
This game is to X-Wing and TIE Fighter what Episode I was to The Empire Strikes Back.
Total ****.
-
My favorite game was Xwing vs Tie Fighter....ah....liked that game a lot
-
Hmmmmm......no gold announcement, andthe game is being released just before the end of the fiscal quarter.
You have to wonder if the game is ready.
I already paid $44.95 to be a WWIIOL beta tester when it was released,I'm not making the same mistake again.
-
ive been in the beta for some time now.... havent played the beta in months...thanks guys i forgot it was on my computer. what beta is it up to?

i got this from the beta website.
Check out Q's post - You may now speak about the game freely. Thank you very much for respecting the NDA while it was in place and we hope you have good stories and screenshots to share!
-
I got this from my post earlier today. :D

Dowding, what mainstream MMORPG has interdependency among crafters, or even crafters that are truly needed for more than repair. Every other MMORPG you get the best items from quests and loot, not crafters. At least the best stuff in SWG comes from crafters. Actually telling why crafting is as it is now is a violation of the NDA. We're basically still restricted to mention anything that happened prior to the NDA being lifted. However, let's just say the majority of people found inter-dependency (and the mechanisms that enforced it) not fun at all. Crafting originally was meant to be a game within the game for "hard core" crafters. It instead became a diversion for the "mainstream" player, any player that wanted to craft. The changes over the course of beta drove off the "dedicated, hardcore" crafters.
Anyways, if you like EQ, you will not like SWG. EQ is an Achiever game, while SWG is more a Social game. There isn't a constant level grind, and there isn't always the next best item that's being dropped by the next tougher creature/NPC. No constant dangling carrot like in EQ. There is still a lot to do in the game of course, but it's very canned. Once you do a couple of "missions" or "points of interest" then you've done them all. Only the text of the story changes, it's still kill a few things and blow up the lair/generator. There are some themeparks that will require a little more effort to do, but there aren't a lot of them and should be burned through fast. As are the few static "dungeons" around the worlds. It's basically an exploration (see this planet, see that planet) and do things with your friends sorta thing. Oh and of course the Rebellion vs Empire thing in the form of PvE and PvP. This content is still in the infancy stages from what I gather though. I haven't tried it out much myself.
As for bugs, there's a pretty lengthy list of major bugs that still need to be squashed, including some horrid ones (permadeath in some cases, CTDs, getting out of sync/ghosted, getting stuck and not moving.) I don't know if these will be fixed in a week.
The game has potential. I can recommend it to some friends, because I know they'll enjoy it. If you liked Ultima Online, you'll probably like SWG. If you liked EQ for the leveling and next spiffy item, you won't like SWG for very long at all.
I'm gonna get the retail because my friends and I enjoyed UO for years. We should be able to enjoy SWG for awhile at least. We're socializers and explorers, and that's what SWG really has to offer.
Saurdaukar... well, duh. :p Space flight isn't a part of SWG yet, and won't be until a full add on expansion pack probably over a year from now. I don't even see how you can compare it to XW vs TF.
Sox62. Like I said above. No, the game really isn't ready for a launch as smooth as DAoC had. However, it should beat WWIIOL and Anarchy Online for launch. As for balancing... no MMORPG is going to release completely balanced. There are things that not even a beta test can uncover. Mickey has it right. I'd think by September things should be stabilized in terms of bugs/balancing.

Ahh...yes great game. I loaded the Balance of Power CD and I never did figure out if there is an attack on the Super Star Destroyer as the CD case depicts. Is there?

Nifty-
I pre-ordered from the LUCAs company store. $47.99, free shipping, and guaranteed delivery by 6/27/03.
I'll give it a try. I was a huge UO fan. Played it for 3 years, and managed to become Overlord of a 50 person guild.
Remember the goodold days of PKs, Dread lords, and the Heavy Crossbow? Sorta like AH...The Crossbow was the Uber weapon, than the Halbard, than the poisoned Katana.
Then they split the worlds because the little biatches were tired of PKs. Thatw as the end of UO for me. If there's nothing to be afraid of, nothing to give you the pucker factor of recalling out with 1 HP left, and your best armor on...whats the point?
If you are going to try this game, I'd like to hook up with you and see if we can work together.
Shoot me an e-mail.

My comparison isnt that indepth. ;)
The Empire Strikes Back = Great SW movie.
The Phantom Menace = Misa Jar Jar Suck.
XWing v. TIE Fighter = Great SW game.
Star Wars Galaxies = Ill click you to PERMADEATH!
-
I'd wait 6 months or so after release to iron out the beta better...and at least till the vehicles are added..
But I find it rather dull, and I'm not sure about the baazar just yet.
The city layouts are intersting, and if your a BIG SW fan you may enjoy walking around mos eisley etc.

Nifty - Oops. :)
I'm not a MMORPG fan. The ones I've played just seemed to be a very poor, dated single player game with a chat room attached. SWG looked to be different and I was really attracted by the emphasis they were going to put on crafting. The other parts of the game bore me senseless and since they changed things to a more 'Resource Collector Pro' type of game, it's lost its shine.

When everquest came out there was a young engineer at my company who got addicted to it.. after about 4 months one day he just never showed back to work, never called, his family came in and picked up has last check and told us he hadn't left his room for 2 months, his mom was very concerned and asked me to call him and see if I could get him out of his room.. I did get him on the phone one day and he explained how he was making more money building EQ characters and selling them on Ebay then
he could make working his job?! "I don't and didn't believe it"
So I left it alone... 2 years later I had one of the engineers call the family of this guy and they were still concerned he was still not leaving his room... That was Dec. 1999 when he quit work, so 3 1/2 years later this guy still hasn't left the house because of everquest... Now this guy is a legitamate research candidate for some university study.. But I suspect he will just eventually become a ward of the state of florida.

Son of a beotch, next thing you know, people will be Ebaying AH perks, LOL :D

Umm, game seemed interesting to me. On a sidenote, I know it's old, but is Everquest worth purchasing for a newbie MMPORG guy like me? And what exactly is it about- quality links with info would be appreciated.
Am getting bored. Bad weather has meant no skydiving for three weeks, and prior to that I did a landing with the wind in my back (by mistake, lost my glasses during free fall) and got somewhat busted up...
So, links/info will be appreciated.

Santa, EQ is a relativly slow paced game. If you're into alot of action you will likely get bored fast. If you like a slower paced game you can play for hundreds of hours you might like it.
Also, its a grouping game for the most part. You can play solo, but its much harder and even slower paced that way.
Yesterday I played it for the first time in 2 years. On my old server my main is lv41, there are now 65 levels. All the old zones that used to be popular are now empty and desolate. It seems on the older established servers very few people play in the low-mid levels. Everybody is higher level.
So, I started a new guy on the newest server. The newbie zones had alot of people in them. Quite a few of them seemed to be totally new to the game. So, you'll be ok if you start on the new server. Otherwise, you'll probibly be playing alone.
You might consider DAOC as well. Gameplay is very similar to EQ, but the graphics are better and its faster paced with more action. Plus there is some limited PvP if you like that.

yes, i was a swg beta tester. i didnt think much of it though. sweet f/x but not much on gameplay. im not into role playing games. the problem i had with it was that you had to shoot something 87.5 times to kill it. i like being in charge of the aiming and the part im aiming at. in the movies they didnt seem to have that problem. the game itself moves very S L O W L Y. i can see why someone would buy accounts so they dont have to spend hours apon hours to get to the good stuff. as mentioned about everquest( which i have not played nor want to). now if you want a good game, one very fun but highly addictive get "day of defeat". its a half-life based ww2 game and free to play online. when i started playing that, i deleted MOH, because its fun offline against the puter but online it sucks. i get much satisfaction when i sneak up on a pesky sniper-camper dweeb and get out my e-tool(shovel) and brutaly whack him or use the knife and shove it up him butt( thats how it looks in the game). so in other words anybody want to buy some highly collectable swg beta3 CDs??:D
-
HAH! I have Beta II CD's!!! Theyve got to be worth more, right?
PS: If you like DoD, stop by the 4th Wehrmacht server sometime - good fun. ;)
-
I beta'd it for about two days, got bored and quit cause I really didn't care much about ground missions?
Did they ever put Space Flight into SWG? If so, maybe I will go back and try it again.
-
Space Expansion is supposed to be just that - an expansion.
My interest may be brought back once that is released... but it will probably end up being another point and click - shoot 3,000 times and reduce TIE Fighters hit points to 0 routines...
-
Nifty they're trying to pull off a 100% player-driven economy, to the point of literally shoving it down everyone's throats. The whole interdependency thing was from schematic revocation, higher level crafters would have to buy parts from lower level ones, because the higher level ones couldn't make those parts any longer. Schematic revocation got dumped.
The game as a whole, it has some potential. I'm expecting the release to be alot like Falcon4's, in that people are going to buy it, try it, and within a week be returning it in droves because the game sucks bellybutton right now. Game play is boring and repetitive, they're going to be doing serious nerfs across the board over the next 2 months as they sort balance issues that should have been done during beta. Quite a few advanced/elite proffessions basically got reworked from start to finish a week ago, and there's NO time to properly test play balance. Lots of game stopping bugs still present, and that can't be fixed before release.
All in all, the release is going to be remembered for the serious belly flop it's going to do. PvP has been totally borked with the last rash of patches scrambling to get the master data set, and try as they might to avoid it there's going to be a big patch on release day. The Lucas Arts bean counters have shafted this big time. It needs a minimum of one more month in beta for the balance issues and bug squashing, then it could have a deent release. Another glaring problem is the lack of 'star war-sy' content. Most of your time is spent running around in the wilderness blasting creatures into pieces =)

So when's the next movies slated to come out?
-
2005
-
I was playing and having a great of time then ll of a sudden I was attacked my a jedi knight!
Oh yeah amd his R2D2 stole the stereo from my tie fighter!
Then I got stuck in the swamps on the planet tutoon or something like that.
-
saur, oops, I thought you were trying to compare gameplay or something. my mistake! :D
dowding, completely understandable. :) not every game is for everyone. 450,000 people subscribe to EQ and I have negative desire to play that game.
muckmaw, I'll shoot you an email later. I think me and a friend are going to play on Starsider server at release, so if you hadn't made plans for a server, you can do that one. I'll let you know what the random name generator spits out for my char's name. ;) (actually, looks like you have your forum email turned off. You'll have to send me one first, or post your email. :p )
you can tell cavemanj is a beta tester. ;) He used the word "borked." I bet 95% of the testers don't even know where that came from. anyways, what you're talking about is "vertical" interdependency, cavemanj. Where upper level artisans needed parts from lower level artisans. I think what Dowding was talking about was horizontal, where advanced artisans needed would get supplies from advanced miners and advanced scouts, same thing with advanced medics/docs getting supplies from scouts and miners. Basically dependency in a class vs dependency across classes. In any case, both are pretty much removed from the system given resource gathering is just one discipline instead of a whole advanced profession. By the way, those people will probably be highly upset when trying to return the game. I don't think any game store will accept returns on a MMORPG. I could be wrong though.
heh, I've got Beta 1, Beta 2 AND Beta 3 disks. :p

Luckily thanks to my training, I was able to survive on this swamp infested planet by eating the weeds that were abundant everywhere, though it made my lips swollen.
Then an Imperial Destroyer came by and rescued me.
