Title: Get ready... tonights the night...
Post by: Saurdaukar on June 06, 2003, 10:29:34 AM
Thats right folks.  Lock your windows, bolt your doors, and leave the women outside.

Friday, June 6, 2003.  The opening night of the 'sure to win an award,' "2 Fast, 2 Furious."

You can all expect every pimple faced 17 year old to be out on the town, pimpin the honeys, yo, before the big event.  Once the food court at the mall closes, they'll be out in force...

Psyched...

Mad...

Looking for a fight...

And getting to 'second base' afterwards...

With seats reclined to the horizontal position... left hand at 12 o clock on the wheel... right hand on the automatic... and a beanie to keep their head warm in this fridged season they will emerge and arrive at your local theatre.

All will be quite for roughly 2 hours...

And then all hell will break loose... Youll be convinced that judgement day has come, and swarms of angry locusts are inbound, strangely screaming to the beat of the lastest Jay-Z tune, and out for your flesh.

But alas, it is they... the ricers.  They have seen the film.  They are on the streets... they are looking for you.  Every minivan, every semi truck, every station wagon... they intend to prove their superiority... and look good doing it.

They will shout battle cries in foreign tongues: "VTEC power, yo!" and "Yu dead biatch, aight!?!"

And they will race.  Stoplight to stop light... 0 to 35 miles per hour in just over 7 seconds... and thats fast... and furious.  They will blind you with their neon lights... shake the ground with their subs, and throw things out of their windows at you.  Anything to get the "edge" and win... the "race"  ...yo.

Funked, let us know what you thoght of the flick?  :D

Seriously, if youre headed out tonight, buckle your seat belt, Im sure the cops will be out in force, but there are sure to be a number of 90 MPH econoboxes speeding through intersections... be careful.

I'd think this was the paranoid ramblings of a scared man!

:D :D :D

Yea, I plan to stay off the streets tonight, so I can fly the Squad Ops!

Cya Up!

LOL!!!

There's a shop a few miles down the road from my place that specializes in souping up '88 Honda Civics or Mazda 323s. huge, albeit useless fins on the trunks and tailpipes the size of a mailbox and they have been zooming up and down the road more this last week.

This one should give "attack of the killer tomatoes" a run for it's money.

Great, a bunch of lawn mowers racing the streets, should be interesting.

Up until the first movie came out, I used to be embarassed about the loud grunt my car makes due to a small hole in the exhaust just in front of the muffler

Now, compared to souped up Neons and Honda Accords...well damn, my car sounds *cool*

There's something just *wrong* seeing a little Dodge Neon with a spoiler the size of a 747 tail....

Surely it won't be as radical as the Hollywood debut of "The Italian Job" to an all mini audience (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=28397).

I have to admit that I enjoyed "The Fast and the Furious" for numerous reasons.  It was flashy, hammy, had cool cars and poor technical reference.  It was cheesy art.  I like it in the same manner that I like "Bad Boys" and "The Big Hit".

I'll catch the new one some time next week.

As for the riceboys... its too late for that.  Its too bad that http://www.riceboy.com is off line now.  That was a great one.  I've heard http://www.ricecop.com is close, but the pics seem to be off-line over there.

Oh well... I'm sure the movie will be enjoyable.  And I'm sure more people are going to be missing the shift into fourth as a result of watching it.

Oh, one other thing.  How could anyone be caught in a ricer after seeing that Dodge Charger launch in the first movie?  If I was sitting in my NO2 powered ricer, looked over to my right and saw a black '69 Charger, slicks filling the rear wheel wells, and a 6-71 sticking out of the hood, and then it proceeds to pull up on its rear haunches and smoke the tires while pulling a wheel stand I'd just get out of my ricer, hand the keys to the nearest homeless person and realise what a pussified car I had.

Front wheel burnouts?  (Insert racially insensitive noun here) please......

I think the first movie was really stupid and I'm sure this movie will be even more stupid.  But I have to wonder how much of this disdain for sports imports is based on plain old racism?  E.g. "A yellow person could never build or drive a truly high performance car?"  Even though road test numbers and racing results show that they can.  Is that what underlies all this hate?

what year was it that turning your car into a cheech & chong special became so popular?

Post by: Saurdaukar on June 06, 2003, 11:59:09 AM
I dont think racism has anything to do with it.  IMO, "rice" is more of an attitude, not dependant on the car itself.

Huge wings, body kits, 50 pound 19 inch wheels, and 6 inch diameter tail pipes all point to the driver, not the car.  When they pull up next to me at a light and insult my "ride, yo" to get me to "race" I find it bothersome.

Take it to the track, public roads are no place to be showing the rest of the world how much of a badass you are in your Civic.

Besides.. how can you NOT make fun of a baby blue Integra with pink glitter stripes, big "Type R" stickers and "duel" exhaust.  One of those tail pipes aint doing anything, bud.  :D

Neg, it has nothing to do with racism as far as I am concerned.  It has more to do with getting extra horsepower from actually doing some work on an engine and chassis rather than just using daddy's credit card to install an NO2 system and them add 300 pounds of eye and ear candy only to negate most of the horsepower gained by installation of NO2 in the first place.  A properly tuned and engineered chevy small block with a tuned exhaust is absolute music to my ears.  Those four bangers, no matter what is done to them, sound more annoying than hearing my mother in law.  Just a matter of preference is all.

Everytime I see one of those "Blenders on wheels" I have 2 thoughts...

1) I wonder if I looked that ridiculous when I was driving my tricked out IROC-Z around 86th Street in Brooklyn in the 80's.

2) How much I'd like to buy a worked up 70's muscle car, just to make these kids wet themselves when I pull up to a light and gun the engine.

I must be getting old...and cranky.

Hehe, I know how you feel.  Fortunately for me, I can usually "intimidate the compitition" with a quick scale to about 5000 RPM.

The sound of an air cooled flat six running upwards is usually enough to discourage even the most hardcore backwards cap wearing Civic Si Type R SXT Turbo ///M AMG SC Superduper Hellafast yo driver in his squeakin ride.

They;re used to hearing fart cans all day, the sound of anything with more than four cylinders is breathtalinjg to them... I can only imagine what it would be like if they pulled up next to an early GTO or Camaro - they'd probably wet their pants.

Good thing for me Ive got this massive whine (fan) in the engine bay - they probably think its a supercharger.  :D

If all else fails, I can always try and get them to follow me into some "twisties."  Although learning the definition of "apex" is usually a lesson paid for by check... I think Id feel kind of bad - what with all the understeer built into their own personal Top Fuel drag cars.

ROFLMAO!!!! I like to do the same thing..This this one street here in town that has a dead mans curve.. Hi...my name is Crow ...I drive rice.  :(

I'm glad I found this group, cuz I've been feeling really puny without a wing on my Honda.  I spend hours looking at parts from Mugen, Spoon, BuddyClub, and 5Ziegen and it is ruining my life.  So far I only have a cai and phat exhaust.  But I've been looking into weight reduction too...er...I was up until I joined RicersAnnoymous. :(

;)

I really can't decide if I want to subject myself to another FF flick.  I nearly walked out of the first one when the undercover cop guy was going 140, took a hand off the wheel, and started tapping on his laptop to adjust his fuel.

Mazda Rx8 = not rice
Mazda Protege with 17" wheels = rice

Nissan 350Z = not rice
Nissan Sentra with giant wing = rice

Lexus SC 430 = Bling bling but not rice
Toyota Prius with gaint muffler = rice

Hope that helps.

What if the Protege or Sentra are modded to be quicker than the RX-8 or 350Z?

IMHO 350Z is extremely ricey.  It's a sedan platform, but they put a swoopy body on it and try to pass it off as a sports car.  And there are cheaper sedans which are just as fast.  It's a poseur's sports car.

RX-8 at least has a unique engine and chassis.  But it's still a 2+2, gussied up to look "sporty" for the members only jacket crowd.  The horrendous nose on this thing just screams rice.

I can't diss the Lexus coupes, those are pretty nice.  :)

You're full of it.
I Own a 350z and it will run circles around most cars in it's price range.
As far as it being on a sedan platform?
I really don't know that to be true.
But what I do know is tha dam thing sticks to the road like glue.
And is rare in that it is both quick and fast!

12.5k
Before you go off on how i got screwed let me explain i am in the car business.

That may be true but Mercedes rides mostly on its image, their engineering is laughable.  How do I know?  I managed a MB repair shop for over six years and my 1996 Camaro is a stellar performer in terms of bang and quality for the buck compared to the MB products.  I can't tell you how many C's, E's, and S classes we had to send back to the dealer for the stupist little problems.  Really, for 80k you'd expect more, but no, MB has been really going down hill since the early 80's...and let's not even start with the W201 chassis'...

You might be rice if:

Boeing keeps calling you asking you to return the 757 elevator you are using for a rear wing

You have more exhaust decibels than your engine has horsepower

Your mod list includes stereo equipment, shifter handle, MOMO steering wheel, PIA driving lights, exhaust tip, but no REAL engine parts.

You bring an empty Maxwell House coffee can with you to compare size when you shop for an aftermarket exhaust system

You add a hundred pounds of ground effects but have a carbon fiber hood for weight reduction

If your rear spoiler is taller than you are

You want the 'wastegate' sound, but don't want to install a turbocharger

You have stickers for parts you dont have

You can fit a watermelon or other large fruit in your tail pipe.

heh my brother just finished installing fuel injection on his corolla GTS  (forget which year.. its one of the rwd ones mid 80's i think)  (initial D) a couple weeks ago.
This week he installed new spings dropping the car 72mm at the rear from stock (forget what he said at the front)

he has an MR2 engine sitting on a stand in his garage (townhouse garage too eekk  ya can only open one door of the car when its in the garage and even then its a squeeze...)  He's also got a used turbo which he is waiting to get a manifold built for.

He doesn't street race.. BUT he is off to Shannonville this weekend for what will likely be the only chance his wife lets him go race this year.

Cool little car, think he really enjoys the working on it more than the driving it, though he would tell you different perhaps.  Not pushing much in the way of power at the moment but she sure handles nice.  The new engine... well he's looking to push 225 or so HP which should make it really scoot +)

As for 2F2F... Michelle rodrigues(sp?) isn't in this one so I'll wait for it to come on video..

Noticed alot of CGI in the trailers... WTF is that???  Steve McQueen likely glad he isn't around to see it...

I'd take the Evo 8 over the Sti.  Less power, but better numbers.  Have to rip off the Altezza lights though.

Funked, what are you putting to the ground with the Crocodile Dundee mobile?  Bout 170 or so after drivetrain loss?  And you weigh what... a hair over 3,100 pounds I guessing?  That right?

The US version of the Evo doesn't have any numbers over the STi.  Some reviewers have said they like the handling of the Evo better, but as far as straight line stuff it's toast.  STi also has the active center diff which gives me techno wood, plus front and rear LSD, variable valve timing, and evaporative cooling for the intercooler.

I'm sure either car would be a blast to drive though, really splitting hairs here.  Both cars are 4 door sedans based on FIA Group A homologation rules, so they are incredibly similar.  It's all academic for me anyways, because I am not going to part with my Impreza any time soon.

3100 lb and 170 whp is pretty close for a stock WRX sedan.  It depends on the dyno, etc.  The reason the car pulls good times is because of the launch.  It's like being shot off a CV if you get it right.  :)

Its the 6th of June...D-Day.
Lets give thanks for them...not a freakin car movie.

BTW.... I have a dual holley, V-8 Triumph TR-8 at 190BHP.
Anyone in the SF Bay area want to "talk"?

We arent exactly giving "thanks" to a car movie.  Read the thread.

In any event, we'll be sure to think of nothing but Omaha beach next year - thank you for showing us the error in our ways.

Wow... the thread sure pulled out the closet riceboys.  Of course, funked has been out of the closet for some time now... but that really didn't have much to do with his riceboy status.

And Fridaddy,  I'm glad you took time to criticize people for participating in a thread just before participating yourself.  Your hypocrisy ran full circle in 4 simple lines of text.

I'll take those corners on...its like a big evo, V6 3500, Brigestone 275/17R60 Dueler Directional HP's, Center Diff, been lowered a little, she sticks to the road real nice, gives baby ricers a run for their money on the straights and has that nice intimidation factor too....

Sorry Vulcan, but that thing wuuld be taken apart by an Evo or Scooby on a track. You couldn't match the braking power or cornering ability. Even lowered the COG is much higher.

Stick to those sheep shagging... err droving tracks. :D

Track? Dirt track or round and round gay track? We don't have any tracks for ricers here.

On a dirt track she handles real nice - the CoG is suprisingly low. On the motorway they may have acceleration, but I've had her up to 190km/h (think thats 115 mph or something), most ricers chicken out at around 140km/h.

I can have 4WD with center diff unlocked for sealed surfaces or locked for dirt surfaces, with directional big bellybutton tyres it sticks to the road, although it doesn't like going over 120km/h in any 4WD mode.

I've chased a WRX up a mountain once or twice, the AWD drive doesn't handle that well on slippery or gravel surfaces.

And theres a Pajero Evo available as well (new model : http://www.jeepnation.net/regular/pajero2plus2.html )

Have you take your WRX off road on ice or gravel yet funky?

Most boy-racers (what we call ricers here) got real chicken lately. The cops have cracked down on them with new noise laws, and the ability to impound vehicles committing "unnecessary exhibitions of speed". And most ricer boys spend all their $$$ on strange glowy light things and don't buy essentials like Laser Jammers :D

No ice here, ever.  But I have done a little gravel, and it was great.  The car actually handles better on gravel than on pavement.  I'm going to rig up an ABS switch in case I get another chance.

BTW all Imprezas have a center diff.  Viscous coupling LSD on the manuals, electronic active diff on the automatics and the STi models.  If you were eating up a WRX on gravel it probably had more to do with driver and tires than the car itself.

Problem with AWD's is the center diff is not lockable, and thats not as good on gravel. Lock the center diff and the off road performance improves greatly.

It's an LSD.  It automatically locks when there is a large difference between front and rear wheel speeds.

Its not the same thing Funked, there has to be a large difference for that to occur. AWD is not real 4WD.

When ya gonna upgrade to mans vehicle, with big man tyres, and big man seats, and a big mans engine?

Suzuki Samurais like yours dominate the gravel stages of the WRC while cars with center LSDs like the WRC Impreza can barely finish.
It's all clear to me now.

And keep telling yourself that your Geo Tracker is a big manly 4WD.  If you tried to run that smack in the US you would get laughed off the continent.  We crap bigger than that thing.  I'd love to see you brag about that little thing in front the guys I worked with in Colorado.  They'll show you real 4-wheeling.  Hand built Jeeps with small block Chevy motors, climbing boulders bigger than that entire rock you live on.  :D

Is that a banjo on the front seat Staga?

A rally's a rally funked ;) I'm suprised you'd ever heard of the WRC over there. Don't American motor sports generally involve going round in endliss ovals?

Do they even sell Pajero's there?

Try running anything bigger than this un and you'll get laughed at over here. Why? Because one of these will end up having to tow you out of the mud/sand/other **** because your big bad machine got stuck :)

Look at those Dakar rally results, hell even the EUROPEANS can build better 4WD's than the yanks.

And WTF is a geo tracker?

Funked I've seen similar 4WD cars like that Geo Tracker humiliating bigger "real" 4WD cars like Chevy Blazer, Dodge Ram, and Jeep Cherokee in OffRoad races.
They're small, can drive slalom between the trees, they're light so they don't sink in to the swamp so easily.

In some cases slightly modified small Suzuki 4wd is really better option than some larger, heavier offroad machine.

Friend's Volvo C303 Pic1 (http://www.kolumbus.fi/staga/klubi/volvo_ojassa_orig.jpg), Pic2 (http://www.kolumbus.fi/staga/klubi/volvo_uimassa.jpg) and Pic3 (http://www.kolumbus.fi/staga/klubi/volvo_ui_syvalla.jpg).

With better 4WD you just find yourself from deeper swamp.

Besides, I wouldn't poke fun at you if I didn't butcher my own spelling from time to time too.  At least you didn't say "loose" for "lose."  That one actually does drive me nuts.
