In some secret underground lair in Finland? ;)
Btw .... had a blast in your latest setup. Spawning the CVs a *tad* bit closer would be nice but ... hey ... it was fun and I think even the whiners enjoyed it in between whinin'. ;)

Totally cool, Eskimo. Any links or tips on sources where the rest of us could learn how to do that?

The program I used is called "GIF Construction Set"
It’s a shareware program and is a free download, but they want $20 if you use anything made with it on the Internet. It is a VERY easy program to use. (I teach computers at an elementary school and plan on having my second graders use this program.) In spite of being easy to use, it can do MUCH more than the basics.
My GIF was all hand drawn in MS Paint, about 50 images (and then the 10 insignias repeated a dozen times to create a “pause” on each insignia). I could have drawn only the 10 insignias, however, and let the program draw the in-between images (I wanted to do a bit more than a simple fade/dissolve effect though.). It basically can take the images that you give it, make two of them translucent and overlap the first with the second image becoming more and more opaque. You can give it a huge string of images, and ask it to apply one of a dozen effects, and control several variables such as color, speed, etc.
The program can also let you resize animated GIFs and set transparent colors (so that they look good on web pages with backgrounds). GIF Construction Set has a compression tool so that your GIF isn’t bigger (byte-wise) than it needs to be. I think my GIF was over 70,000 bytes before it was compressed. The AH BB limit is 30,000 bytes, so compression can help quite a bit!
It’s free to download and play with, after you try it out I bet you’ll be as glad as I was to pay for it!

Thanks, Eskimo -- excellent info, and I'll certainly try out the program you recommend.

GIF Construction Set is just as great as you said, eskimo2. Read all about it on line, decided to try the free evaluation shareware, and you see the simple three-pic flashing result.
I managed that in about five minutes taking it slow and easy. Very logical and intuitive program. Will enjoy exploring more stuff with it, but meanwhile, it did exactly what I wanted -- simple animation of a few still pics.
I wish all programs could provide results that are that successful that quickly. I'll gladly pay the $20 for full registered copy (the evaluation copy holds back nothing, either -- professional with warm fuzzies).
Thanks again for the insight, eskimo2.

Glad you like it!
Try your images with a dissolve. (Edit - Transition - choose dissolve)
Have fun.

More good advice, eskimo. I like dissolves but will have to work with them awhile. Initial effort resulted in about 39 frames and 107k, too much for the 30k avatar limitation. Maybe because I have jpgs instead of line drawings.
Definitely an interesting way to put more fun in the frames.

Your using GIFs... right?
I assume you converted Jpegs to GIFs?
BTW, I had about 100 GIF pics (50x50) compressed to under 30K.
Did you try compression?

Something is eluding me in dissolution (interesting phrase). My 36 frames are 64x62 coming in at 107k; compression reduces only into the 80ks while I need to get under 30k.
I'm quite the novice at this, unable to edit dissolving into existing strip, instead of having to start over each time. No big deal, will figure it out sooner or later.
Yes, my moving avatar is gif and I created it from three jpgs.
I did achieve having the pics segue into the final frame and stop on it, but that effect is lost by the time readers scroll down after entering the thread. So back to the loop avatar.
Eventually I hope to get into some nice variable timing dissolves that look as appealing as yours. That will take awhile, but it will be fun experimenting leisurely.
Meanwhile, I need to start flying some more! Thanks again, eskimo2.
