How much will you pay to video tape its first flight? I bet if it flies its gonna crash real neat.... Never flown an RC plane before...
First R/C plane. Built from a Guillows kit, all balsa. Functional ailerons, elevator, no rudder. Speed 400 electric 2:1 gears, 7 cell nicad. SBD with a 33 inch wingspan. Total weight with everything on it: 19oz.

Having grown up with a father that's been flying RC for.. 40+ years, I can say- Don't try flying it without someone who knows what they're doing.
You will most likely crash it, if not on take off.. on landing. And if you've got someone there that knows what they're doing, they can take the plane up for a test-flight first to make sure that you built it good and there are no problems.
It looks good, though!

built it good! THats hilarious. I am sure if somebody who knew what they were doing showed up they would get back in their car and get away as quick as they could!
Really this was just a test to see if I could put all the equipment into a guillows kit. And buy the stuff of course. Luckily the kit is only 40 dollars, everything else is reusable (and totaled almost 275 dollars).
Everybody has told me not to even try it without tons of practice on easier to fly kits first. So of course I have to try.

Nice lookin AT-6 Zeke.
-
was the sbd based on the at6?
-
Yes ... errr .... no ..... errr .... they look kinda similar. Didn't see the dive flaps. Didn't look at the sweep of the wings close enough. And hell ... it's green. ;)
-
heheh. Wasnt about to try putting in the dive flaps. The model had everything, but to keep it light I only kept the minimal details. Even had a remotely operated bomb drob mechanism with that funky dive bomb fork bomb holder thing.
I think I found an experienced pilot for the test flight. Should be a great help.

Random question- What did you use to cover it?
-
tissue paper. Heavy duty. After the dope (i just use elmers and water) and the spray paint, its pretty tough.

Looks good! I hope you're giving the black-dressed dude a chute, he ?

Darth Vader doesnt need no stinking parachute!
I took it up today. Launched it 4 times, had a little luck, then the engine mount screws pulled out of the balsa. Gonna have to find a better way to hold the motor.
I was suprised how effective the little ailerons were though.

good thing you took pictures :)
gl
my first r/c plane (electra glide - powered glider) took months to build and about 55 seconds to crash :)

Was that pre flight sim practice? Wonder if it helps any.
