Title: Motherboard timer not operational ... help?

Well ... finally got everything put together, XP Pro installed. Everything seemed fine after all the updates, but now I'm getting 4 beeps when booting up. Manual says this means: "Motherboard timer not operational".

Not sure how to proceed here. Has the motherboard gone bad already after only an hour? How can I fix this?

Everything seems to still be running fine. What effect would this have on my system if left unchecked?


OS: Windows XP Pro (fully updated)
CPU: Intel Pentium 4-3.0C GHz
Motherboard: ASUS P4C800 Deluxe
Memory: Corsair XMS 1GB PC-3200 LL Platinum (2 X 512)
Hard Drive: Seagate 120GB SATA 7200 RPM /w 8MB Cache
Video: ATI 9800 Pro 128
Sound: Audigy 2

Yep that would be a bad board in my previous experience. At least it died early on; so you should be able to get an RMA easily.

If it's a bad board why is everything still working?   or at least it appears to be working correctly.

Infant mortality of silicone will usually occur within the first 24 hours of burn-in.

I would check with ASUS about this before proceeding.  Open the case and make sure nothing has become dislodged or a cable is not touching something it shouldn't be.

Hmmm,..you stuck with the 380W supply that came with the Sonata.  I wonder,..should be enough,..but maybe borderline.  I replaced my Sonata's PS with the 480W TruPower.
