MAN that movie gave me the Heebie Jeebies(http://home.wi.rr.com/jabostaffelhq/images/Hosted%20images/Bolt.gif)
that scene on the rooftop
the mexican home video
i know it's silly and I'm 30 years old.. but i slept with the lights on that night. LOL
what did you think of it?
-
Haven't seen either, that good, eh?
-
That movie was filmed about 10 minutes away from my home - we had "Mel Gibson Sightings" on the news for weeks here. ;)
I liked it alot - felt the mood was captured very well. If Alfred Hitchcock were alive today, this is the movie he would have made.
There are alot of subtle things that I missed the first time I watched it - the second time I caught on to alot of bits and pieces that made the movie even more interesting.
-
What a stupid movie. These ET's can travel a billion miles through space and all it takes to wipe em out is a Louisville slugger and a glass of tap water? STUPID!
-
I liked it. Very atmospheric I thought.
-
When they discovered that they were using the 'signs' as navigation aids I simply thought "cut the fields, then they'd be lost!!" ;)
-
I thought it was lame and boring as suspense and even worse as an inane statement on spirituality. The scene that stuck with me most was the one in the beginning with the local cop; how such a lethargic and pointless couple of minutes could have been committed to the final cut is beyond me - at the same time it's a good representation of the entirety of the movie itself.
-
"Swing away Merrill....."
Best part of the movie... He forshadowed this earlier in the movie pretty well...
Good movie... all of M Night's movies make you think...
2 cents

I am with najdorf, the aliens were just to frikken stupid.
-
The best part was when the super space travel ailens failed to break down the basement door....
-
Somebody forgot to tell the filmmakers that there's water in the air. But that's only a "minor" detail in comparison to the huge contrivance that is the plot itself.

Yeah it was kinda creepy, but in a cool way. Try watching The Ring. That movie gave me angst for days afterwards.
Me too, about 7 days. ;)

Yes Erlkonig I found that funny as hell, BTW I bet they also had one hell of a rash by walking thriugh those corn stalks on those cool nights...
-
The thing that blew it for me was the water thing. Why would any race, superintelligent enough to routinely operate in space, try to invade a world that has so much water on it, in it and around it. What is the world, 90% water?
Sheesh, stupid aliens.
They deserved to get kilt!
But I did like M. Night's other two moveis, Unbreakable and Sixth Sense. Maybe he should stay away from aliens!

LOL, I forgot about that part. I was watching it with my girlfreind and I told her, "Gee, I guess they forgot to pack their ray guns."

just my thoughts....
hahah invade a planet that is 70% water -and do it naked, without wearing a protective suit. This lack of logic ruined the whole movie for me.
-
Excellent filmmaking, terrible concept and writing.
-
Hey Saur, my wife's uncle is a doctor in Doylestown. Was there over New Year's. My wife actually taught classes at the college the movie was filmed at.
-
The Ring wasnt all that scary until the plot twist at the end. I covered the TV up with a blanket for the night after seeing that movie.:o

Hehehehe that would be like invading Russia and not bringing much in the way of winter gear. Who could be that freaking stupid!!!!!???

decent movie if you suspend your disbelief.
-
What's bad is when you just return from the theaters, having seen The Ring, and the answering machine is beeping at you and there's a non-descript black VHS tape sticking out of the VCR.
I walked in the room hit delete on the machine, chucked the video tape across the room, unplugged the TV and turned it around before going to bed. :D
-
i saw 'they' before starting my overnight shift
never again!
-
Great movie.
Loved the characters.
Liked the "Night of the Living Dead" style of the movie.
Now I'll have to rent "About Schmidt".
-
I really liked 'Signs'. Mostly because EVERYTHING in the movie was just a little 'off key'. Too hard to explain that here but it had an effect on me.
Also, the movie, like many, was a Fable, not a documentary. Don't get too hung up on 'facts'.
-
I thought it sucked.

when they started it was summer and they were kicking Ruski butt.

"when they started it was summer and they were kicking Ruski butt."
yep... who woulda thought that it was gonna get cold in Russia in the winter? Heck.. the birds were singing... the crops were burning merrily.... the german transportation system was munching down on Russian grass....Heck..one could rape without even getting a chill.. who woulda thought that a few snoflakes would ruin it all?

Small world. :D
The indoor scenes they filmed at a warehouse in Bensalem, my girlfriend's father works right across the street from the place.
I also recall them planting the corn field for the movie almost a year before production began - kind of makes you appreciate how much time (years) goes into a little 2 hour movie.
So the rest of you guys recommend the movie "The Ring?" From the previews it seemed like one of those "MTV teenager scary" movies.
Perhaps Ill have to check it out.
As for being scared ****less, Event Horizon holds that title for me. Made the dog sleep with me that night and I actually drove home from the theater with the interior light on.
-
Just saw the first ad for "28 days later" last night, looks pretty damn cool... comes out sometime in mid-june I think.
Event Horizon definitely scared the f*ck out of me the first time I saw it.

SIGNS was one of the best movies I have seen lately.
The Ring was a disappointment...I didnt find it that scary.
Now when I saw that "figure" on top of the barn.....HOLY CHIT!
The scene from the party in South America....HOLY CHIT!
My wife had a sore arm after I grabbed her and hung on for dear life. SIGNS had me scared ......really scared!
-
I've watched the movie several times, and I have never seen the figure on the roof? I think the cornstalk scene at night was the scariest in the movie theater. Everyone was yelling "Run Riggs run!!" The Mexican home video just reminded me of OJ caught on tape for some reason.
-
It would have been a "B" movie if Mel Gibson hadn't starred...I think "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" frightened me twice as much as signs....however after watching both, I can't fish in a pond without shattin' in me drawers nor can I pluck corn without peein' on me boots.

the roof scene is when he is in the room with the little girl and looks outside and see's it on the roof. the music even does an orchestra hit or something. right after he goes and wakes up his bro and they go yelling around the house....
go in slow-mo while he's in the daughters room and look on the barn roof for a silouette.
