Is there really a better lunch than two mystery-meat/old/consistancy hotdogs, a bag of chili-cheese fritos and a 32 ounce Dr. Pepper?
My only complaint is that the local Circle K doesn't have a molten cheese-like substance dispenser.
:D

AM-PM Japalpeno Cheddar Corn Dogs
If we are talking dogs on a bun give me Vienna Beef, Chicago Style with the orthodox condiments. No vampire juice on my wiener please!
-
There isnt a hot dog joint/chain in the world that can compete with Portillos in Chicago.
-
Never been there, but I am a fan of Mr. Beef. :)
-
Oh man I am having a serious italian beef jones right now.
BTW the proper hot dog condiments:
Yellow Mustard
Sweet Pickle Relish
Fresh Chopped Onions
Tomato Wedges
Kosher Pickle Spear
Sport Peppers
A Dash of Celery Salt

My kingdom for hot giardiniera

Yeah, laugh it up big boys...somewhere in the world a Heart surgeons beeper goes off for no apparent reason when you bite into one of those Death Dogs....
-
I would put a caspers Chilicheese against any other hotdog in the world!!
You ever hear of them Funked?
-
Mr. Simmons, I hate to break it to you, but death is inevitable. :)
-
Dune, Beans101 is trrying to put togewther an AZ gathering.. have you heard from him?

Caspers are good, but a good Chicago dog is heaven.
-
Hebrew National is the only real hot dog , the rest are meat byproducts.
-
Jodi Maronis dogs are great, especially the Italian one.
BTW, you're lucky the Circle K didn't have the cheese dispenser. I find Circle K cheese to be orange instead of yellow, never hot enough, and lacking in flavor. 7-11, of all places, has the finest hot cheese for dogs.

sry, didn't mean to rain on your hotdog :)

LOL :)
-
Excessive hotdog eating is directly related to the need of having something long and hot in your mouth...now this thread makes perfect sense...
-
I may die of a heart attack/lung cancer/liver poisoning/car wreck before Im 40, but damn if I wont enjoy myself until then. ;)

mmm...nix the tomato wedges and add a slice of cheese and some saurkraut and now we're talkin! I haven't tried 'em yet, but I heard that Boca dogs are a suitable substitute. And, being that the hot dog is really only there to support the condiments, I wouldn't be adverse to trying one. Either way, I won't be living in constant fear of a heart attack...I will either get one or I won't, and I'd be a hell of a lot more worried about my genes than I would about my diet.

I skip the tomato myself. I just wanted to give the orthodox list of Chicago Hot Dog condiments.

On Sunday evening, my wife and I were delayed in Portland on an Alaska Airlines flight to Burbank. The airline was very nice about the whole ordeal, and gave us vouchers for use at the local airport vendors to get food.
Took it straight to a "Good dog, bad dog". Never heard of the place before, but because we had the vouchers, I ended up getting two things (plus a bunch of beer).
The "Oregon smoky" was fantastic, with grilled onions and saurkraut, as was the Bratwurst, same, add mustard and ketchup. I was stuffed, but I still wanted more (still had voucher money to spend also, ended up not using ut).
If you ever find yourself in the Portland Airport, between gates C7 and C9, check this place out.

Steve I wanna go too, we can all bring our guns and throw jumping cactus at each other.

Check out Top Dog if you are ever in Berkeley.
The same sausages (Saags) are also served at the Oakland coliseum right behind home plate.
-
Ahh, I`m beginning to understand.
You`re talking Bratwurst :D
To have the best:
Take 1 german "rote" Bratwurst (all the white ones, including Thüringer, suck) or some french Merguez. Roast.
When the wurst is ready, halve a Brötchen (Wecken to you swabian germans) and put lay the insides on the grill for a few seconds.
Put wurst in Brötchen, add some hot Mustard and just a hint of ketchup. Yummy.
Once you got bread that is and tastes like bread, and sausages that are made from real flesh and taste like sausages, no need for extra toppings.
Enjoy hot, and flush down with a cold one.
-
I prefer a good currywurst, brotchen on the side with whipped butter...mmmm.
In Swabisch Gmund they were still called brotchen :)
-
Anyone who has ever driven an 18 Wheeler will tell you the consumate gut-bomb is Pilot Fuel Stop Hotdogs. They are 1/4 Pounders with Chili, cheese, jalapenos, relish, onions, hot sauce and mustard (mayo if you walk on the wild side). 1 of those bad boys will keep you awake for 6 hours easy.
-
I hate you guys. Tonight I was all set to cook up some nice salmon filets on the grill when I ran across this thread. An hour later, salivating furiously, I ran off to the store to grab some Hebrew Nationals and the full assortment of orthodox Chicago condiments.
Best. Hotdogs. Ever.

Gd DAMN that sounds good!
There is this device called the 'hot-diggity-dogger'..looks kinda like a toaster.. with slots for two buns and a little rack for two dogs.. pop the lever down and it toasts the buns and cooks the dogs at the same time.. they make the greatest dogs ever.
(here's an example)

Heheh I just had camarones rellenos at a local place. Giant shrimp, stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon, deep fried, served on a bed of lettuce and guacamole, and topped with chipotle mayonaise.

you can't really get a good hotdog unless someones playing baseball nearby. they jsut taste better when watching a game.(the only real exception is Otto's sausage kitchen, when they fire up the grill to cook their own dogs, it's always good)

Los Vaqueros, I-580, Vasco Rd, go N on Vasco 1/8 mile, left side, next to Shell truck stop.
