Title: Setup for June 13th, 2003
Post by: eddiek on June 12, 2003, 04:42:24 PM
Going to rerun a setup Sabre did a while back, the Continuation War on the Finn-Russ map.
To save time (and hassles), I am just gonna post his comments about the setup:

FINLAND - RUSSIA CONTINUATION WAR

Welcome to a historical Eastern Front map of the Continuation War (1941-44) between Finland and Russia. The current year is 1944. Map scale is 1:4.

Rooks (Finland-Germany)
- Germany (Rooks) fields are 39 - 53 in the Lappland
- Finnish (Rooks) fields are 54 - 74
- Field 72 is both Lappeenranta (Finns) and Immola (Germans), because they
were so near each other. From there you can fly all the Finnish and Germany
planes. As you know in Immola airfield was detachment Kuhlmey's FW190 Jabos
and Stukas (Bf 110... here) in summer 1944 when soviet had the Great
Offensive against us. They helped Finland very much.

Bishop (Russian) fields are fields 1-38, 72 in Finland and 75-76
in the Estonia

ROOKS/FINLAND AIRPLANES:
* Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-2 and G-6 ("Mersu")
* Hurricane Mk I
* Curtiss P-40B (actually Curtiss H 75A Hawk "Sussu")
* FM2 Wildcat (actually Brewster Model 239 "Bylly Waltteri")
* Junkers Ju88A-4 ("Junnu")
* Douglas C-47A (actually Douglas DC-2 "Hanssin Jukka")

ROOKS/GERMANY AIRPLANES:
* Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-4 ("Emil") and F-4 ("Friedrich")
* Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-2 and G-6 ("Gustav")
* Messerschmitt Bf 110 C-4b and G-2
* Focke Wulf Fw 190A-5 and F-8
* Junkers Ju88A-4
* Douglas C-47A (actually Junkers Ju-52 "Tante-Ju")

BISHOPS/RUSSIA AIRPLANES:
* Lavochin La-5FN ("Lavochka")
* Yak-9T ("Tankoviy") and 9U ("Uluchshenny")
* Hurricane Mk I and Mk II
* Curtiss P-40B and 40E
* P-51B Mustang
* Ilyushin Il-2 Type 3
* A-20G Havoc and Boston III
* Douglas C-47A (actually Li-2 under licence)

SPECS:
* Fuel Burn is set at 1.2
* Down time is set at 30 minutes.
* Killshooter is off (be careful: don't shoot friendly pilots :-)
* Enemy icon range is short (3K).
* RADAR SETTINGS: In the Eastern Front area was very few radar only in the Finnish capitol Helsinki, in Estonia/Germany and in Lappland/Germany. Mostly Finnish and Russian fields did not have radar. That's why I have made radar settings very low:
* Enemy Radar range is about 8 miles from airfields (like visual contact).
* Enemy Sector Counter range is 12 miles from fields (like hearing contact).

EXTRAORDINARY IN THIS MAP:
* All the airfields are historical. The little "Backwoods Airfields" don't have runaways and hangers. There are 8 fighters and 4 bombers (actually plane-dugouts) in every field and you must destroy them in enemy fields. They react like hangers but aren't so difficult to shoot down: They need about one 500 lb or 250 kg bomb to destroy.

* Small sand-airfields have 8 fighters and 4 bombers, too. You must destroy both them and hangers in enemy fields. After all planes and hangers are destroyed, enemy cannot fly from that field. All hangers and airplanes needs 500 lb or 250 kg bomb to destroy.

* In some fields there are camouflage net (like those on Vehicle Hanger) instead of normal hanger. They are plane hangers yet. Under the camouflage nets you can find couple of bombers and fighters. Destroy them.

* Be worth to shoot trucks, tents and fuel barrels in enemy fields, too! For ex. in trucks are fuel, ammo, troops or maybe even Vodka :-)

* When you are landing to "Backwoods Airfield" remember always stop on the little sand-grass area (VH-ground) in the centre of field, otherwise you are "ditched"!

* Typical landscape in Finland area is swamp. In this map they are light green flat areas here and there in forestes. They are very good place when you must make emergency landing... :-)

VERY SPECIAL:
* Finnish players fly always in Rook/Finland Team and other nationality players in Bishop/Russia Team, unless Host puts teams in different order (I think this is good system in Combat Theater, too! )

SOME HISTORICAL BACKGROUND FROM THE TERRAIN DESIGNER:
* In Northern Finland (called Lappland), Norway and Estonia there were Germans (Knights), because Finland and Germany were allied in 1941 - 1944.

* Finnish politics was never nazi politics like in Germany during those days. Finland fought against Russia and that was the only reason to ally with Germany.

* The blue svastika sign on Finnish planes (for ex. Bf 109 G2) is an old symbol from Swedish Count VonRosen, who presented the first aeroplane to Finnish Air Forces (FAF) in 1918. As you can see, that was many years earlier than nazis affected in Germany.

Due to RL obligations (my job), the setup will not be put into play until I get home from work in the morning........so I won't be making the arena changes until after 8:30AM CDT.

Thanks!

The recent additions of the Yak9U have imbalanced this setup in favor of the russians - that plane is an equal of Bf109G10, La7, or FW190D9.

The p51b is the about the same as the 9u. With the a20g enabled the il2 will see little use.

Including all these fast planes makes one wonder why ever enable planes like the hurri mk 1, emil or p40b.

Take the 9u and p51b out and its a winner.

(http://bellsouthpwp.net/w/o/wotans/Info/finrus.jpg)

I included the 109g2 instead of the g6 because its a bit faster.

Gruenherz couldnt be more right.

And you left out the Stuka.

EDIT

didnt see the f8 its faster then the a5 and shouldnt be there either.

get rid of the yak9u, la5 vs 109g6 is fun, 2/3 of the arena in yak9u's isn't .

I didn't even see the p51 on the list, nix that too, and it will be the fun setup again. Then leave it in CT for a month or so .

S!

IRL

Russian had lend-leased P51A (Allison) which was slower that P51B (Merlin).  P51As didnt service in Fin-Rus front.

Germans operate with FW190As from north Finland airfields.

(EDIT)

Yak9U mass production start Aprill 1944 and 163 IAP start combat test fligts Oct 1944 in Baltic region far away form Finland.

If Russia dont have Yak9U and P51B then Finns have speed advantage at 15k and 22k+ (no wep). La5 hold speed advantage 0-12k.

Honestly, I didn't remember seeing the Mustang in the setup last time.
I'll probably take the Pony-B out, but leave the YAK-9U in place.  I'm at work right now, so I don't have a lot of time to look into this further, but I'll try to make the sides as even as possible.

hey...i'll be happy to take the yak 9u....make 'em all yaks as far as i'm concerned...as long as it's a wwII setup with opposing planesets, unlike the ma-istic stuff we had this week.

at least with the yaks, we'll be facing those who can handle 'em, and not have to worry about the influx of ma dweebs brought into the ct by the promise of free tempies and 262s.

shoulda known we'd get a good setup this week...i'm outta town till sunday.  :mad:

have fun guys!  :)

Eddiek:

The problem with the Yak9U is like this. The La5 is much faster than any of the Finnish/LW planes under 10k or so where most fighting occurs. But it can be outturned by the BF109G2/G6 so there is some balance.

The Yak9T can outurn the 109Gs, but is just a touch slower and does not accel as well so again there is balance.

So with these two planes in the set it's possible for all the majors  have some advantage even in mixed fights but still maintain balance.

But if you add the Yak9U it breaks the balance. It can outrun, outurn, outaccelerarte all the 109s and 190s and it never runs out of "WEP" like performance. And thats the problem - it is the class of the G10, P51D, D9, and LA7.

And balance is what made the FinRus setups so popular in the past.

Just flew a sortie and it was fantastic, the lack of Yak9U made it just as fun and balanced as the first few times we had this setup.

The Ship's should take around 1,500 pounds for a ship that is not the lead ship, a Lead ship one acting as the Primary ship will generaly take 8,000 pounds to sink, their is also a window of time that the bombs nead to be deleaved withen to effect a cumlative damage effect, I think it's like 15 min but I am not shure.

Hello Eddiek!

Actually you have very old "demo" MOTD text from last November 2002...;)

You can find the correct setup and info text from here:

http://events.hitechcreations.com/terrain/Kanttori/FinRus/motd.txt

This new version also contains all hints and tips to this nevest FinRus update, for ex. from Tank Battle Villages.

I'm very pleased if you could replace the old MOTD text in CT with this. You can of course modify this text as you will, for ex. make it shorter...:)

Whenever you do such quality again, I shall return.
