Title: F4u-4
Post by: F4UDOA on June 13, 2003, 12:48:43 PM
Just looking at this NAVAIR chart for the F4U-4 which is often dismissed as useless because of a mention of 115/145 grade fuel in the report.

However the flight test itself list the BHP recorded during the test as 2100HP which matches the results for 100 octane fuel.

check here.

http://www.history.navy.mil/branches/hist-ac/f4u-4.pdf (http://www.history.navy.mil/branches/hist-ac/f4u-4.pdf)

Notice the BHP is listed as 2100HP at Mil power during flight test which corresponds to the 54" MAP setting used in our F4U-4 albeit our climbs about 1,500FPM slower.

Also the max speed of the F4U-4 is the same as ours at sea level. Wouldn't it be much faster with higher octane fuel??
