Title: New Zealand 13 - 15 England
Post by: Pei on June 14, 2003, 08:51:25 AM
Not exactly the prettiest match in the world but a huge victory for my boys in white. Far too many penalties and handling errors.

Johnny Wilkinson might look silly with his clutched hand kicking routine but you can't argue with 4/4 penalty goals. NZ lost some opportunities to take it outside and use thier pace. England's defense was massive, but the pack didn't live up to expectations (or rather the NZ pack was very impressive, especially in the scrum).

My highlight of the match: big Phil Vickery running past 3 or 4 All Blacks up the middle. 20 stone on the hoof is hard to argue with :)

Now I have to wear my England jersey when I go down to watch Australia vs. England at the Wallaby Bar in Sydney next week :).

Turn it up....the bloody Ref totally wrecked any chance of a free running game...I thought the Blacks were very unlucky, and just couldn't convert the points whilst they dominated the game.

I'd agree about the forward battle being won by NZ, I thought the Kiwi loose forwards, scrum and lineouts were excellent...I think the Kiwi's knew it too when they elected to go for the tries, instead of the easy 3pt's early on.

Bit premature to carry on about the death of southern rugby
 JUST yet...

cricket has to be THE gayest sport on the planet, with soccer following right behind it.

Yup, Wilkinson's kicking was outstanding. I thought we were going to get murdered half way through the 1st half, possesion was something like 70% / 30% to NZ. I think the real turning point was when NZ were unable to capitalise on England losing 2 players to the "sinbin". The remaining 13 really put on a show.

I did not think the ref did a bad job. It was always going to be a tough one to manage. I agree he probably should have let it run it's own course a few times but generally I thought he did OK.

Our lads did great if you ask me.  Only a few years ago The All Blacks simply dominated the game, they were always the ones to beat until the Aussies started having a good run.  I remember the interview with Will Carling when he called Jona Lomu a freak of nature :D.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

First I had the flu.

Then I had to give up my corporate pass with pre-match drinks with former All Blacks, tickets to the big game, post-match dinner with the current All Blacks, because I was so fediddleing ill.

Then we lose.

The ref was a retard. However it went both ways. He should NEVER have sent of either English player. The first penalty was an injustice as many were. It was a shambles.

Althought NZ did score a try, England didn't. There was only 2 points in it. And it was the first time the All Blacks have played together this year.

In summary, screwed up Ref, new AB team vs experienced Lions team. Game came down to 1 or 2 kicks. Most Kiwi's are relatively happy that the fine tuning will have things sorted. A win would have been nice, but it was hardly a 'loss'.
