Title: Sunday Squad Op AAA setting
Post by: Squire on June 15, 2003, 02:52:42 PM
1.0 seems a tad high for an attack on a CV group? My flight got decimated, despite dropping from above 4k. I thought SO aaa was usually less than that, in the 0.6-0.8 range. Just wondering, seemed a bit much.

Despite an exhaustive search, no sign of the Ju88s crews were ever seen again...:(

AndyH brought this up and Skyman checked and confirmed that the setting was at 0.45.

I don't know if there was a bug, but the Allied SBD got in and out of the Cruiser fleet without any losses.

The allies had 2 fleets next to eachother, maybe this was the reason why ack was so fierce.

From what i saw as Cap for the allied fleet was the axis bombers were either killed by cap or went in far too low in the attack (deep into the aaa) or held a fixed course too long in the attack enabling aaa to lock on.

However when we attacked axis cruisers with the SBD, attack method was hard deck at 5k (eggs gone), do not hold a course in dive but to jink around to prevent aaa lock on and acquire target only long enuf to drop eggs.
On egress at all times jink and move around, never hold a course.
We had 3 SBD left at this time, out of 5 we lost one when operating as cap for fleet another had to rtb damaged.
3 SBD went in on the cruisers and 3 came out sinking 1 cruiser in 1 pass.
Our fighter cover also entered AAA at the same time to split the defensive fire, unfortunately 1 of them did go down.

From our viewpoint the fleet AAA was not excessive.

Cav & MAG-33  wtfg & a very big from HQ...

You guys kicked butt in those SBD's  I assigned to you,  exceptionaly well considering I needed you to use it as a fighter for the first hour to beef up the fleet defences.

I count a total of 7 kills for your group:
5x JU-87
1x 110G-2
1x JU-88a4

All shot down by your "Slow But Deadly" little bird :)

plus an excellent performance getting reorganised during the fight, landing, rearming, heading out to the enemy cruiser fleet, sinking it, and returning alive !

!  Brilliant performance MAG-33 !
