Title: How does weaponphysics work?
Post by: Ecke-109- on June 16, 2003, 07:06:02 AM
Hallo guys,

i noticed a difference in strenght of the 109's weapons.
Yesterday or so, i intercepted a Tiffi. As he was in dissadvantage, he started a shallow dive to escape from me.I followed him.We were about equal in speed (maybe 400mls ) and distance was about 600-700.
I sent him a short burst of my 13mm's. Just to make him nervous.
He got 2 or 3 hits.
Once more i sent a little stream to him.Again,he got 2 or 3 hits.
And a second later, he exploded.
We both were very surprised after that.
Under 'normal' conditions, it needs at least 15 hits with 13mm's to cause any damage.

Did this happen because the airframe is stressed in a dive. And because of that, a shell can cause more damage?

I noticed the same effect with the 20 mm cannon.
Normally, one 20mm shell isnt lethal.
But 2 or 3 times, it happened to me, that i killed fighters with just one hit.
They all flew highspeed turns (which must stress airframe) and i was sucessfull with snapshots.

Does the gameengine realy calculate this kind of physics?

probably got a lucky hit and killed the pilot...

If you kill the pilot, the plane instantly pops

Hey ecke, the same happened to me too (2 times) but I was flying a spit. Both times I was in a steep dive behind a N1k one very short burst at d900 one hit sprite BOOOM.
Was amazing. First i thought its caused by the lazer cannons of spit but if seams to work with 109 too.

Like stated it was probably a pilot kill. In AH the plane magically dissappears when the pilot dies or bails out.

Yep i know snefens but hit sprite appeared at the rear end. Maybe i misjudged it.

thats the same question about how a 190d9 radiator gets hit from the rear...

they "say" that the round is arching over the top of the plane and coming down on the front of the plane.

I dont know. I honestly think I see enemy wings fall off easier if they are pulling max G

You could be right.  The other night I ran into JB42 in a Ta152 and we got into a turn fight and I had pinged him up pretty good on a couple of occassions with my 4x .50 cals with no visible damage to his plane and eventually he started to pull away and when he was about 850 yards in front of me, he pulled into a hard climbing turn (looked like the beginning of a High Yo-Yo) and I had a momentary clear snap shot and I fired a single 20mm round which hit his starboard wing, blowing it clear off.  We both were surprised at the hit, I think I was more surprised than him because it was a very low probability shot and one that I rarely take because I usually miss them 99.99% of the time.  So maybe the stress on his wings from his high-G maneuver stressed the wings enough that it weakened them.  It was I think the first time that I was able to kill anything with a single 20mm round, usually takes me a 4 round burst of 20mm to kill anything.

AKAK, the 152's wings are really fragile. Last night I pulled a bit too much G in one, I just barely blacked out (vision) before both wingtips tore off in a medium speed turn. Had to fly back to base and land with only the rudder for roll control. Hairy. (Amazing how fast the 152 is without half the wings, I left the cons standing still :D)
