Far from being an MTV fan, but I woke up this morning, fired up the PC, and the TV while I was checking my mails.
I tune MTV for some music ...
It's T.A.T.U. at the MTV awards 2003... 200+ chicks striping from their school girl uniform to underware and bouncing around.
:D
and re:D
End, of the clip, back to typing my email.
Then I ear "crazy right now"(something like that) from Beyonce. Hey! I like this song, nice peps! ... so I look at the screen and DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAM!
Holly Maquerel batman!! Fire in the hole! Holly schmolly, I never considered her to have a nice body, from destiny child to Foxy Cleopatra ... a bit too large in the upper legs/waist/butt.
But ... in the video ... AIE! I couldn't keep my eyes of the screen while arboring the stupid smile of the drooling male.
Thank you MTV, I wish that those could be the first type of images from the world I see for every day of my life :)

I got T.A.T.U's album.
I like it, it's really NOTHING fancy but I like the cristal clear voice she has. Goes straight thru your skin to you synapses.
And I guess it's a bit of nostalgia, reminds me those European easy listening girls band. ... or maybe it's just the pleasure to ear someone sing in something else than English or Spanish. Talking about English, no accent, those girls were raised in England/USA or something?
Go on their web site, you have both clips. The lesbian school girl under the rain one, and "Not gona get us". This one is cool, 2 fragile girls on the top of a good old red army Ural truck driving itself into the blizard. It has a Manga spirit (skiny teens operating heavy machinery).

For some strange reason, whenever I see those, I have another song commin up in my brain:
"Hey little girl, is your Daddy home, did he go and leave you all alone?... mhhhmhhhhh I'm on fire..."
-
What song is it? IS it like Gainsbourg's "L'amour que nous ne ferons jamais ensemble est le plus beau, le plus pur, le plus seduisant" kind?

One of my favorite Bruce Springsteen songs. A classic tune with a haunting far-away sound to it.
More lyrics:
"At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet
And a freight train running through the middle of my head
And you.
You cool my desire.
Whoa-ho-ho
I'm on fire."

It's not a Soviet truck, it's more like something from a "Convoy" movie :) "Rubber Duck"...
The girls are nice and they really can even talk :D But their producer is a genius. The band appeared here in Russia maybe 2 years ago, and wasn't that popular. The videois you mention are maybe 2 years old too, but the songs were sung in Russian at that time.
Their producer also works with several local bands playing "progressive rock", Brit-popish, with weird lyrics.
What I like is that after 10 years of crap that TV calls "pop-music" ("muzyka pop", "music of the butts" in Russian ;)) we finally have some quality dance bands.
-
heh, nothing like some nice young females singing in skimpy outfits and kissing during the bridge of the song... *looks for a drooling smiley*

Yep along with the Monica Belucci spread....

Boroda you know there is a sequel to the Convoy song where they drive across the USSR. :)
-
Quality dance music groups
Mutually exclusive.
Dance music is very much jigsaw music. I'ev analyzed, together with a friend who does some music-esque studies at the university, how dance tunes are put together. There are four different basic ways - and amazingly enough, if two songs are in the same category you can basically replace the riffs or soundbits and they will sound *virtually the same*.
No, factory produced music is not for me.
-
Actually, either those 2 girls or whoever is managing their marketing is a genious.
I never heard of them, but I looked up their website.
I see 2 very pretty girls posing in lots of pictures with either school uniforms and/or morning attire (white skeleton shirt/boxers..not underwear per say) and being...feminine.
That last word is the key.
DL'ing a few songs of them from kazaa now, hopefully they will sing well too :)

And not for me too.
But you can't imagine what a stream of crap is pouring on us from the radio and TV for last 10-12 years. Tatu and some more "artists" are good enough not to make me vomit.
If you want some "hand-made" music from Russia - take a look at this:
http://www.crossroadz.ru/new/?music
The band is great, and I try to visit every club concert they make. Records can't give you mere 10% of the impression they make live...
-
DL complete. its in russian. (doh) :p
They have nice voices though.. cant understand zilch.

click the english version, funny stuff, hearing (bad) American Blues sung with Russian accents "Blues LEAVES ( lives) in Russia
OMG, was laughing my butt off......LOL

Please, if you know a better European blues band - let me know.
BTW, the song was recorded in 1991, in Soviet times.

Sorry :)
It's not Ural, it's a KRAZ.
Usually they are coloured in khaki, so I didn't look close and thought it's an American car.
KRAZ is a very big truck. They are used as heavy tows and timber transports. They are real "kings of the road", they don't pay attention to traffic rules.

I got that "Nas ne godonjat" Maxi edition and must admit I like the gasping little russian girls ;)
Even found out it means "We won`t be catched" - on the wbfree boards.

or

You will have a lot of pictures AND video clips. I like the one from "simple motions". The photographic aspect of it, especially on the one waiting at the bar while the other is "spacing out" is well done.
simple motion, not gona get us and all the things she said (even 30min) ... like you guys said, the marketting with the "lesbian pure love little girly" of the band is a killer.

nobody wants to call Boroda out on this??

Back in the late '80s at a club here in San Diego, I watched this one band from the USSR that blew me away. I can't recall their name but the style of music was, as best as I can describe it, psycho-billy music (like The Cramps and Rev. Horton Heat). They all wore black suits and had these freakish pompador wigs on and did nothing but old R&B and rockibilly covers. They were pretty big on the alternative music scene in the late '80s and early '90s but for the life of me, can't recall their name.
Another really cool Russian band was one called Lenny and the Cosmonauts that played nothing but surf music in the Dick Dale and Ventures style.
Then on the completely other side of the spectrum is Autograph, which has to be one, if not THE, worst band that ever existed. Why couldn't you guys send them to the gulags when you had the chance? You would have done the world a favor and at the same time find a new and cruel punishment for the gulag inmates.

The drawings are not from me.
The Russian blues band doesn't sound bad at all. For whoever criticized their accent, I'd like to see how good Metalica would sing in Japaneese, or Gart Brooks in Russian or Christina in French.
All foreign band can sink in English (with more or less of a disastrous accent (in T.A.T.U.s case amazingly well), but it's rarely the case for American artists.
Blues is not really my cup of tea, so I cannot provide an another European band. Those Russians guys are doing pretty well. What I prefer usually are bands that try to match a musical genre but still keep the "music style" of their country. For example, if you could ear French rapers singing "Yo yo waza dog" ... oh man ... priceless ... you would fall from your chair!
-
Boroda what was the band name singing "privet" ?
-
First Russian band to get an hit outside Russian borders, and they do it thru lesbian teen propaganda!
WTG! THE WORLD NEED MORE LESBIAN TEENS!
:D

Was it The Leningrad Cowboys? They made a film around that time which I remember being very, very funny and filled with big quiffs and pointy shoes. Only problem with my theory is that they're Finnish, which suprised me but Google never lies.

Yep, Leningrad Cowboys are from Finland. They even have their own beer brand :D

Agreed completely :(
But it's capitalism. The one who does the things that are good for illiterate crowd gets the money, promotion and fame.
In Socialist society (I mean good old USSR) you could be a star, get all possible support from the state and never worry about your records that could be printed in million quantities.
The real Art was defined by authority, highly-respected people in artistic counsils.
In fact many jazz records were printed in bigger quantites then the Beatles and other popular music. There were even more classic records. Noone bought them, so you could get them for 1/20 of retail price after they spent 3-5 years in stores... But musicians got all possible support and rewards, and their concerts were always sold out.

Boroda wrote:

Oh yes that is what we lack in the West Boroda.
We need some authority to tell us a) what art is and b) what we like and want to hear.
The capitalist system may not be perfect BUT, if there is a demand, there'll be a supply.
Beats being force fed a predefined set of 'art'. It is a sad day when a very small group of people decide what is 'art' and what is good and sets the standard for everything that is created.
Art, by its very nature, cannot be fixed. Art is inherently individualistic in the sense that it appeals to something in the individual primarily. if many individuals like it it may be seen as non individualistic, but it is a result of resonance in many individuals, not resonance in a collective.
And this coming from a guy who basically loathes 'art'.
-
Heh, also from that post:

So his point is....?

Hehe, some people start to think about what I posted :)
Santa, it's funny that when I'm trying to be ironic - most of the people here think I am serious...
What do you think I listened to in Soviet times?
What do you think is better for mental health - Jazz music or Eminem or whoever is jumping and screaming on MTV now?...
