The Austrian (Bounder) opens with the Balkan Gambit and no defensive moves against Russia or Italy.
England (Syz) starts with a Southern Opening, a "blatantly anti-French" opening.
Likewise, France (Hortlund) goes with a Manche Opening, an anti-English move.
Germany (banana) goes with the Blitzkrieg Opening. This is a common opening when "France is an ally, Russia is neutral or suspect, and England is the objective."
Italy (Dowding) starts with the Obriani Opening, considered to be "the best anti-Austrian" opening.
Russia (Nash) is evidently going with one of the variants of the Ukraine System.
Turkey (Sling) opens with the Balkan Concentration.
After the dust settles:

Just one bounce... English Channel.

He's learning fast the good moves :D

Heh, have no fear Straffo, I'll salvage some glory for the French arms this time.

England as an objective? Surely you jest. The peaceful German peoples have no intention other than to protect the poor, oppressed people of Denmark. Why, it was just two weeks ago that reports of Danish transgressions against their people became known to me.
Germany covets our friendly relationship with the English king and his peoples. As an honorary Admiral in the English Navy, why would I want to jeopardize my annual participation in the Cowes yacht competition held every summer?
I am pleased to be on friendly relations with all the great nations of Europe. All this talk about tensions and hostilities are lies, all lies. There is no tension or hostility among the great countries of Europe. It is plain to see that Germany is content to live peaceably with its neighbors.

Who has the WMD?

Arch-Duke Ferdinand, the Second. I hear he's in Sarajevo on a state sponsored jolly.

"Please...I assure you, our fleet did not attempt to move into the English channel. I do not understand why they say that. They are are sick I tell you...in their minds. Do not listen to their sick lies.
And we have certainly NOT invaded Spain...please...our forces are peacefully inside their barracks, come let me show you. Do not listen to their lies. "

Sandy, while I appreciate your thoughts, I had hoped you would save you interpretaions, as opposed to just reporrting the moves alone, for a post mortem retrospective. Please don't be stating your analysis at this point. It tends to artificially skew the game when you mention your thoughts about moves. This game is between the players and it is for them to decide what the moves mean. Your views effectively put another player into the game, and one that is privy to everyone's moves and emails. I realize you are the master, but the master has no say so, and it is up to the players to decide what the moves mean, not the master.
But, so long as you are just joking, I say the following:
Anti French? Ah, you are so wrong.
I've merely attempted to place my fleet in a position to contiunously supply the Island with Brie and Pate from our French cousins.
England was never a threat to France. It's just redikulus. If France has the brains everyone thinks it does, it will surely see that and post its attentions elsewhere.
And surely, you don't suggest that the great Kaiser has any ill intentions. Surely he hath told me different!. In fact, he has offered me a iron clad armistice which, according to Russian dogman, is as good as gold, right?
Germany was never a threat to England. it's just redikilus
I think it is all America's fault anyway!
:D

I knew that guys was working for France all along!
:D :D :D :D

No analysis from me... I simply paraphrased the descriptions from the openings library (http://devel.diplom.org/Online/Openings/) using the moves as ordered. I'm woefully behind on reading the emails.
-
Don't worry Syz,
Sandman didn't say anything that would give anything away. I like his analysis because it gives us a chance to speak on the BBS in a humorous way in an attempt to explain what's going on.
There is nothing related to what is said on this BBS to what is really happening behind the scenes.
Keep it up, Sandy!
-
Okay, then I am not clear about this retreat thing. Do you have to retreat or can you move anywhere?
Great Britain England never retreats!
We got no place else to go, cept mabe Northern Ireland!
-
Beyond the descriptions of the openings, I'll not speculate or hint at any intentions. Fair enough?
-
I think it's ok to describe what is going on in a general sense, especially since most everyone can see for themselves what is happening.
Vadr does a good job over on AGW of giving a brief description on what is happening on each front, and will ask the question which is on everyone's mind. It's very entertaining stuff when the Master throws in a little analysis.
-
Guess I should add... I've glossed over the mail, but I've yet to start keeping notes and comparing what was said with what was ordered.

Cool! Thine efforts are appreciated! ;)
I once played many years (20+?) ago when we had a "Newspaper" run by an observer (not the master). He would circulate brief reports of movements and then give editorials about what it meant and what players had told him, sort of making him a public opinion tool. But, that got out of hand because players would bribe him wth food and beer to give false information, i.e. that is an anti-russian move, to cover up and anti-german move, etc. That's where I got the idea that the observer's thoguhts, as opposed to objectively observed facts, can skew things artificially. Come to think of it, that's when I started distrusting the media, too! :D
-
I definitely appreciate the effort either way, Sandman. Tis a cool thing thou art doing, as Syz would say. :)

No real fighting so no retreats. Next move on 6/26!
-
Just wanna make sure I understand the deadlines...
" Next move on 6/26!"
Are the deadlines at midnight? For eg, the deadline 6/26 is on or before 11:59 pm Thursday night?
or...
are deadlines by the date mentioned. In other words have your move submitted before 6/26 which means Wednesday (midnight)?
-
The current deadline says 06261640. At the bottom of the game screen (http://www.floc.net/dpjudge/?game=aceshigh1), it states that the deadline is 1 day, 15 hours and some change away.
According to my math... that's about 9:40 AM my time so I can safely assume that the time listed is GMT. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the DPJudge is GMT, but for the life of me, I can't find the page.
-
Gotcha.
06261640....
...is 4:20 (some time zone or other) on the 26th of June.
Thanks
-
Almost... 16:40 is the same as 4:40PM.

Oh man...if only we mere mortals could peer into the line of thought that led mr Nash to that conclusion...
"And then we must deduct 20 minutes in honor of the Hebrew God..."
-
hehe really?
Look at the number: 06261640
It's just a guess but....
06 is the month
26 is the day
1640 is the time (military) which translates to 4:20. Probably GMT.
er... I'm not crazy am I? You've got me paranoid alluhvasudden. :)
-
Oh shiat.....
I see.... Was a typo. Should be 40 minutes, not 20.
shrecking numbers....

Har har.
Shaddup ya bastige. :)

Your putrid attempts at humor and disinformation will not fog the spectacles of the the wary King of England!
Actually, I have a problem. I have to be away from my computer from about 6/27 to July 8, 11 days. Any thoughts? And no, surrender is not an option.
-
Well.. I believe you can set orders ahead of time, but it's not a simply process (AFAIK). I can simply extend the deadline (if everyone concurs).
-
RRRAAHHHHH!!! What is this? I have to stand on the dot to get it?

silly thing, those stupid rules, eh Hort?
Seriosuly though, the only ones you don't have to stand on are in your country, and that's good only until someone takes them from you.
-
Argh...I thought it was enough to be the last to occupy it. Damn Spaniards escaped my clutches this time...
-
You must occupy the territory in the Fall, otherwise you do not own it.
-
I'm getting a kick out of following the action.
I used to do a game called "Supremacy" in much the same way. With my clumsiness, I was dragging down Central Africa in the world market, much like Idi Amin...
