Shane is OK, and yes, he has shot me down.  So has everybody else in the game, and I don't hate them.  Not even lassie.

Shane isn't a bad guy at all, even though he flies the La7.  Like Rod pointed out, the ones that have a problem with Shane are the ones he shoots down the majority of the time.  I figure, if they can't shoot Shane down in a plane, they'll try to do it over the radio.

Instead of whining about Shane, maybe the little ankle humpers would be better off going to the TA and learn some ACM and tactics? This way the little ankle humpers will at least have a remote chance of shooting Shane down instead of resorting to llama like behavior and start crying and whining on open channel.  Maybe this way we'll be spared such whine-fest threads like Wire1's "Shane called me a chicken!  Now ban him!   ."

whels you need help if you think pappy was a saint.

  from usmc files.........

"His irresponsibility, his debts, and his difficulties with the Corps continued to mount throughout 1939 and 1940, when he flew with VMF-2, stationed at San Diego. One memorable, drunken night, he tried to swim across San Diego Bay, and wound up naked and exhausted in the Navy's Shore Patrol office. Despite his problems on the ground, it was during these days of 1940, flying with VMF-2, that Boyington first began to be noticed as a top-notch pilot. Whatever his other issues, he could out-dogfight almost anyone. Back at Pensacola in January, 1941, his problems mounted - he decked a superior officer in a fight over a girl (not his wife), and his creditors sought official help from the Marine Corps. Greg's career was a hopeless mess by late 1941. "

He clashed with the leader of the Flying Tigers, the strong-willed Claire Chennault. He (pappy)quit the AVG in April 1942; Chennault gave him a dishonorable discharge, and Greg went back to the U.S.

sorry to say this sounds alot like Shane

AKAK using shane's terms.... A shane clone? A blind follower?  Maybe, but then .... who cares?
Shane has a knack for getting under people's skin, but from what I've seen it is only to people that rattle his cage.  If you're gonna poke the beast with sticks, you have to expect it to bite ya.
These same people that whine about the boy would be well served to spend some time in the Da w/ him.  Ya, they will probably get their arses handed to them, but they will learn quite a bit if they have the foresight to check their egos at the door.
Shane doesn't just go to the DA and slap folks around, he'll tell you how he beat you and why.. then give you a chance to try the same moves he just used on you.(learn).  Then he'll show ya something else, try new moves w/ ya, whatever you want.  Of all the vets, Shane seems the most willing to go to the DA and help a person learn the game.

Shane is alright by me...   I get a kick out him.

Lots of folks dont understand his banter is often an attempt to goad folks into a fight.

Back in the days of legend, before my time,  Guys often used these tactics to get some good compitition going.  some people are so thin skinned sometimes, a little prodding has them all in a huff.

If you look at more than his CH1 banter, you will see his a helpful guy, and wants to see guys having the guts to fight and improve.

Iv never understood why everyone is so offended by him.  Of course I get a kick out of Lazs too...

Or maybe I just don't have a problem with Shane/Oopsy.  I've known him for a few years now and I've never had a problem with the guy, nor he with me.

As for using Shane's terms, 'Ankle Humpers' is the best description for those that constantely whine about Shane in the MA/CT and then post threads on the boards trying to get him banned.

Ever since I was a young boy, I've been quite good at flite simz
From Atari to Ace's High ... I must have played most all of them
But I ain't seen nothing like him, he kills on just a whim,
That deaf, dumb and blind kid
Sure plays a mean flite sim.

He used to be called Oopsy, but now his name is Shane
even while he's smackin' at you, he's shootin' down yer plane,
Plays by intuition, in DA, CT or the main,
That deaf, dumb and blind kid
Sure can be a pain.

He's an AH wizard -
There has to be a twist,
An AH wizard's got
Such a supple wrist.

"How do you think he does it?"
"I don't know!"
"what makes him so good?"

Ain't got no distractions, can't hear no buzzers or vox,
Some call him quite an stunninghunk, others say he rocks,
Always gets multiple kills - and while he does he mocks,
The deaf, dumb and blind kid,
sure can give some knocks.

Never claimed to be,
The flite sim king,
But I'll concede,
That Shane must be the Queen*.

Even flyin' in a Stooka, he can beat my best,
He has a few disciples, they think he's truly blessed,
But I bet it's really a curse, always has to beat his chest,
That deaf, dumb and blind kid,
can't take the same in jest.

*(After all ... it's the deadliest piece on the chessboard.)

;) :D

This is exactly correct. I've never seen Shane turn down a request for help by going to the DA.

I rarely see Shane in the MA, but frequently in the CT. We have had several terrific fights, win some, lose some, some end in a draw. However, I have never heard a complaint if I got him, or a hint of gloating if he got me. Perfect gentleman.

Shane only begins with the smack when encountering guys who run at the drop of a hat, or otherwise refuse to engage when they have every tactical advantage. Really, he's merely expressing what many of us are thinking anyway.

My regards,

Widewing

I remember first being introduced to shane in his La-7.  I thought he was a good pilot exploiting a great airplane and getting his kicks out of it.  He taunted everyone in sight, and seemed that he had the biggest chip on his shoulder.  It made me mad when he would nail me too, and figured he was just a guy with a poor self-esteem.

Then I met him in the DA.  He kicked my butt in everything we flew, and then hung around for as many flights as I wanted to fly and gave me pointers along the way.  It seemed like shane's Dad was flying on his account.  :D  He was very patient and helpful.  He could tell I was just not grasping some of the things he was doing, so he gave me prompts throughout the fight, and even sent me a recording of his film afterwards.  It was pure and genuine concern for my improvement.

He still kicks my butt, but I have a huge amount of respect for his abilities and his helpfulness.  He may have personality conflicts with many people, but he is ok in my book.

By the way steve, it seemed that you and shane had an ongoing feud in the MA, but I see you are just playing along with his game.  Take care.

Shane is a  girl. It's actually Shayna.

That fact alone should piss off even more people.

Me and shane actually went in together on a flight sim called squeak Warrior once. Alas, our financing fell through.  Kleenex Corp. and  A whinery out of Napa pulled the financial plug right at the end of alpha testing.

Shane and Joey

Joey: Shane! I knew you could, Shane. I knew it. I knew it just as well as anything. Was that him? Was that Wilson?
Shane: That was him. That was Wilson alright. He was fast - fast on the draw. Joey, what are you doing here?
Joey: I'm sorry, Shane.
Shane: You don't have to be. You'd better run back.
Joey: Can I ride home behind you?
Shane: Afraid not, Joey.
Joey: Please, why not?
Shane: I gotta be goin' on.
Joey: Why, Shane?
Shane: A man has to be what he is, Joey. You can't break the mold. I tried it and it didn't work for me.
Joey: We want you, Shane.
Shane: Joey, there's no living with, with a killing. There's no going back from it. Right or wrong, it's a brand, a brand that sticks. There's no going back. Now you run on home to your mother and tell her, tell her everything's alright, and there aren't any more guns in the valley.
Joey: Shane, it's bloody. You're hurt.
Shane: I'm alright, Joey. You go home to your mother and your father. And grow up to be strong and straight. And Joey, take care of them, both of them.
Joey: Yes, Shane.

Tears well up in Joey's eyes, then Shane rides off into the twilight meadow toward the distant hills framed against the sky and mountains, growing smaller and smaller in the distance. Young, anguished, and heartbroken Joey sadly calls out to his hero in one of filmdom's most famous and haunting endings, as tears streak down his face:

Pa's got things for you to do, and Mother wants you. I know she does. Shane. Shane. Come back. 'Bye, Shane ....

Joey's call echoes across the valley .... a heartbreaking moment.

Yea, I have known Shane a very long time, from the old AW days. He was always one, like myself, to use channel 1 to get people's ire up. Jousting verbally on channel 1 while taken to excess can be annoying for some, with the squelch features, each person has control over how much banter you wish to subject yourself to. While Shane and I exchange witty jabs on channel 1 from time to time. I understand him, he is a good stick who gets bored just doing the same thing over and over for ten years and needs to spice it up for himself and his adversaries.

I went to the DA with Shane once, we had a blast, he handed me my bellybutton on a hotplate in the plane of my choice. Never accused myself of being a fabulous turn-fighter by any means but I know when I am totally outclassed. If you don't like what he is saying just squelch him, but the simple fact is, he talks smack but can back it up...

PS. He must have some class too, cause even though he handed me my bellybutton in the DA he never brings that up publicly when we joust on channel 1 like alot of people would. If he asked again I'd go to DA and learn some moves, one of the few people I would accept Duel invitations from in AH.

Shane is an excellent pilot.  When my squad the Widow Makers change to the Rooks for a tour, I found myself bumping into Shane quite often, and being a victim of his skill many times.  Time to give credit where credit is due....  One time (no, not at band camp) Shane was hovering near one of my bases and we ended up going one on one many times.  Can't say as I won even one fight that time.  On ch1 I asked if Shane would do that merge move he does with no guns so I could film it.  He agreed and I boomed 'em while filming.  Then I asked if we could do it again at a slower rate of speed (hoping I could see the move better in slow motion) and again he obliged.  After getting my film, he and I did some more one on one fights and he popped me 2 out of 3 (the one time he died was being because of some b.s. excuse of course and not at all that I might be figuring out his fighting style) and I thanked him for his help and logged to watch the film.  I did a bunch of hand waggling, eventually using empty cig. boxes for airplanes and figured out what he was doing.  Logged back on and went Shane hunting.
For the time he took to let me film, and the 1 vs. 1's, I give  Shane a hearty SALUTE with much respect.

Now...
this is why he's on my dweeb list.
Shane is actually an easy kill.  Just grab alt around whatever furball he is in, let him burn his E killing 3-4 of your fellow countrymen, boom in and light him up.  He loves to dive in and mix it up and usually ends up low, slow and on the deck.  Granted, Shane is quite exceptional low, slow and on the deck, but as long as you stay fast, and know how to avoid his merges, he's a target / prey like anyone else.  Whenever I would hear Shane is at such and such base on in-country channel, I would up a nearby base and hunt.  If your any good at snap shots / deflection shots you should be able to cherry pick 'em fairly easy as he furballs.  I've gotten him several times that way (many, many assists also) and as soon as he goes boom, I like to pay attention to ch.1 for his whine.  It's never "nice shot" or "way to go, you got me" it's always some b.s. whine about why his belly button is an outie and THAT is why he died, or some other lame arse pile of drivel.  I get quite sick of hearing him whine because let's be honest here, the whole reason he died is because he blew any alt/e advantage and got caught furballing on the deck like a dweeb. (which has it's moments and is quite fun sometimes btw....)  He basically does near suicide runs, and when he dies, calls YOU the dweeb because you killed 'em.  I find it sad to berate someone on ch.1 because you were the one flying like an newbie and died.
Part of the MA is the multi layered fight you come across with nme peeps at 2k, 12k, and 20k and that's where SA comes in.  Part of the fun of fighting in the MA is knowing when to leave the fight or your in a hopeless situation and it's only a matter of time until your dead.  A pilot of Shanes caliber knows all this of course, and he chooses to fly the way he does, so he shouldn't get pissy when he get's killed doing it.
THAT's what ticks me off.  He's basically killin' himself, and blaming you for doing it.  That's the dweeb part that I see.  Don't blame somebody else because you put yourself in a bad situation.
When my squad moved back to Knights, I knew I would miss my Shane hunting parties (and shooting down members of the Damned of course) but then again, getting to shoot at the JB's again made up for it.  The JB's sure do make perty boom's when I kill 'em (heh)

Anyone is easy to kill if you cherry-pick and gang him with the assistance of friendlies.  By your own admission, 1v1 he isn't an easy kill and usually ends up the victor in your fights.  So frankly, you can't shoot him down mano y mano so you to resort flying with the horde and ganging him because you can't quite do it alone.  Now that's sad.
