there is no such thing as a Wisconsin class battleship.    They are Iowa class Battleships.

oh well no one got it.

Admiral Harold R. Stark, USN, Commander, U.S. Naval Forces in Europe, supposedly onboard the USS South Dakota (BB-57).

anyone know if the S D was ever in the Atlantic?

It was built on the east coast, probably would have done initial working up and fitting out there.  It was commissiond in March 1942 and Stark assumed position of CinC Europe in April 1942 which gives the approximate date of the photo. With the onrushing Japanese tide, SoDak went to the Pacific pretty damn fast, you betcha! :)
