So with the introduction of the F4U-1D, is there a hidden surprise for us in store? A CV
or water in the mix, maybe? (g)
Also, really when we getting a P38 variant? :-)

Over anxious? Yeah yeah, who isnt! :-)

First, they gotta finish the artwork for the F4U. Note the absence of cockpit shots or even a pilot at the controls. Them artists are workin' hard, but they ain't gonna rustle up no CV outta the woods this week.
Besides, for a CV you'd need new terrain. And it'd be nice to have more than one plane capable of CV ops.
Judging by the state of the F4U, the only A/C that particular artist will be working on in the coming days will be the Hawg. (Lookin' good, BTW).

Please take the time to model the aircraft correctly.
Warbirds had been running a porked version of the Hawg for quite some time.
Would hate to see the same problem happen here. Lets get it right the first time and save alot of anguish and argueing later. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

A note to Natedog. I only noticed one small discrepancy in the F4U-1D art. The prop hub was actually black on the Air Group 84 Corsairs.
That tidbit aside, I'm completely impressed with what I've see so far! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Can't wait for the day the Corsair enters the Beta. Keep up the good work!

Oh, and thanks for letting us have a small part in designing this sim Natedog. What a kick to catch a misque and have the art director respond about fixing it right away. Your building a loyal group of pilots here!

IMO F4U is quite ready as it already has markings for "flight direction" and "this side up", heheh..ok,ok, bad one....
-
Actually, I believe the arrow on the wing means 'this side toward enemy'. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

LOL i like the "THIS SIDE UP" one (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) maybe that helps flying in the clouds HAHAHAH

no point in adding the f4u until damage modeling is done. why fly it when a n1k can turn better and take just as many hits? better roll rate (to one side) i guess.

Still, we need 109F-4 before anything !

What we need is german bomber after 2 (TWO!) US bombers and soon coming brit bomber.
Ju88A-4 with its different versions, including nose mounted 20mm and so on (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
He111 or Do17Z could be neat as well.
or how about just Me410? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
Also something far less seen german fighters like Fw190D12 or D13 could be neat addition.
(faster than P51...)

Maybe an F-15, Fishu?

Man I remember when I saw that big ol' blue F4-U at the USS Intrepid in NY, I was amazed at how big that a/c was and imagined how in hell did they get that thing down on carriers with its low vis. Will be fun to watch that big ol blue plane up in the AH skies.
P.S. ^ Shoot it down of course... <G>
-
More like in the dirt. Our runways are gonna get paved in enemy blue... the F4U is far better suited to ground attack than the P-51.
Runways are gonna look like "2000 Flushes"... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

[glasses] "I was amazed at how big that a/c

Yes, I did happen to see one of these birds fly! Large indeed!
And what came to my mind was not only HOW did they land them on the carriers with low vis, but how SMALL those carriers were back then?! You have to tip your hats off to them I tell ya.
-
Hey Glasses what year did you visit the USS Intrepid? Was it back around 1976?
Reason I ask is that I don't think a Corsair has been on display there since then. There has been one on display at the USS Yorktown since the late 1980's though. The Corsair on display at the Intrepid Museum during 1976 was actually the F2G 'Super Corsair' that now resides at the Champlin Fighter Museum in Mesa, Arizona.
If you have any pictures it would be great if you could scan them for us to enjoy (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I have yet to see the USS Yorktown Corsair, and would love to get some shots of the USS Intrpid display.
See ya when the Blue Tide rolls in!

I saw it just this summer 1999 August 1st I beleive, don't remember which ver was, but I recognized the bent inward wings and the big blue plane, plus it said on the caption it was the F4U. I'll try to find some more info on it cus it was next to the WWI plane display on the Intrepid to the right of the main entrance.
-
The only thing ugly about the F4U......is that D#&$(# YELLOW ring on the nose. Especially since they only used it (or the white one depending on the CV) for a couple of weeks in Feb/March 1945 on all large fleet CV aircraft involved in a particular portion of the Okinawa campaign (or, in other words, it is an invasion stripe so to speak).

I personally prefer the solid blue of VMF-214 =)
next would be the checkerboard around the nose =)
but I'll take it with a yellow stripe on the cowl if that's the only way I can get. I dinnae care what it looks like, as long as it flies true to the real thing (or as close as HTC can get the flight model anyway =)

The yellow cowls were used for Air Group 84's first week of combat operations near Tokyo between the 16th and 23rd of February, then painted back over for the second round of strikes in that area. They were reportedly reapplied in March during the Okinawa and Kyushu raids. All in all Air Group 84 spent more time without the yellow cowlings, but a large portion of their combat activity took place while the markings were in place.
One cool thing about the current AH markings is that they belong to the F4U flown by Roger Hedrick of VF-17 fame while commanding VF-84 from the USS Bunker Hill. If I had to choose a secondary scheme for the F4U-1D other than the current markings I would choose those of VMF-312 (checkerboard).
