Any chance of being able to pick up a downed pilot?
As it is now, i am able to walk around on the ground, waving to my squaddie in the C-47 passing above my head.
Could't he land, and by using the .join command, i can get into his plane?
-
Or, he can land, and you run up and press an 'Action Button' -
(which is a tried and true method of gettin stuff done without shooting) (did i mention HT wants to bring a small FPS portion into the game?) - and you see yourself hopping in the opened door, then are inside the goon.
-
or the cavity in the tail of a 190 :)
-
That said BenDover the Philosopher :D
Anyway the SAR system could be an interesting variant to think to, don't you think ?
-
Another thing I would like ot see is supplies dropped for A/C work the same as GV's.
Each destroyed system would require a certain number of Boxes to repair that system. I would love to land with a broken engine, and require 5 or ten boxes to get back in the air, make it back to base or continue a killing streak.
The challenge would be requiring the cooperation of another pilot, and pray you didn't fall prey 2 the nme in the meantime.
-
instead of making this a SAR game , lets get 'aircraft repair 'modeled in , say you can taxi to a hanger and use perks to get your plane fixed in xxx # mins depending on the damage.
also like to see , if ya die at a base you cannot take off from that same base for XXX # mins to curb the airquakers , because as long as airquake is the easiest way to overcome an attack or press to victory an attack it makes real world tactics obsolete.
-
show me example where/when airplane was repaired in couple minutes and without test flight was bring back to operational service ;)
No repair in AH, just grab new plane
-
But they did do Re-arms and re-fuels. It really seems silly to come into a base dead stck, go slightly off the runway and get a ditched when in reality they would roll the plane to it's spot, fuel it and have it ready for it's next mission.
We should be able to refuel close to an airfield if someone drops a/c supplies.
-
re-arm and re- fuel its not same like repair
about resuply aircraft i was write som time ago;)
Year ago was not so easy land outside airfield like now we have.
Every tree on your way can kill u when u touch them
In RL u can resupply your plane if u land /not ditch/ outside airfield if:
- place to take off was good enough and not risk for pilot/plane
- airplane was not damaged
If not , airplane was take to truck and safe drive home
-
All for the repair, but make it lengthy? 2-5 mins to be repaired, and an occupied hangar won't repair more than 1 AC at a time? Heck, the hangars will have a use, i can already imagine the field bustling with activity! :D
-
could you imagine bombing a hanger that contains someone with a 5+ kill sortie?
The comedy value would be worth the trip, lol!
-
I'm for introduction of Storch and Walrus SAR to pick up pilots and give them the chance to evade capture and land kills. Of course, points for the SAR pilot would be high...

Maybe a limited RPS aspect can be workable with AH.
For instance, along the lines of the main-stream missions in TOD, maybe the system can form a limited mini-mission in certain situations.
For instance, if an Allied mission and Axis mission collide on Axis territory, and a lot of pilots of both sides get shot down and bail out, a mini-mission for the Axis would form which objective is 1) drive vehicles to a certain "extraction zone" which forms with the mission, to rescue downed pilots, and 2) capture allied pilots for interrogation. Much the same, an Allied mission, a guerilla/partisan action, would form. Their objctive would be to drive vehicles to the downed allied pilots, and protect them back to allied extreaction point where they may be rescued.
The strengths of this mini-mission idea, is:
1) unlike full scale RPS aspect like WW2OL, requiring separate numbers of people to form ground forces, at the same time maintaining enough numbers for air combat and naval combat, participants and their numbers can shift according to need. Pilots waiting for the next mission term may be compelled to join a quicky ground mission.
2) rescuing downed pilots on enemy territory becomes possible, so naturally, the downed pilots landing on wrong territory can expect to salvage their scores.
3) a small scale ground mission consisting of infantry, and GVs can quickly form - the forces occupying the territory will spread out and search for downed friendlies and enemies.. the partisan/guerilla forces would also search the area.. and when the two forces meet, a fast paced, hot, small ground combat will occur. (ooh... Tito, anyone? :) )
4) if the general area where pilots of both contesting forces, are in border areas.. maybe something like the border of France/Germany in a Battle of France setup, then rescuing planes might also be used.

My thoughts on player's rescuing downed players... NO THANKS!! I don't wanna hear dlamb screaming over channel 2 or vox for someone to come and rescue him.
Same applies to delivering supplies to a damaged/outta fuel teammate.
An AI rescue plane that flies from the closest friendly base perhaps there's an idea.. if it gets shot down... tough ask for a new one, perhaps some sort of menu selection.

how about you hide your pilot in one of these new forested areas, then you get to fly your own rescue plane?
-
Heh thats an idea, with the player being the ONLY person capable of doing the rescue flight. Once the player has chosen to do a rescue flight, he/she will ONLY have the option of flying the rescue plane. Also no indication on the map of where the downed persona is. If the player reaches his downed persona lands and rtb's they are then able to fly any plane they wish.
If the player is unable to find his downed persona or gives up, he then accepts a death and can reup as if he'd died in the first place. (only after rtb in the rescue plane or add a second death)
Perhaps a downed wreck of the original plane should be left on the terrain as long as the player is looking for his downed persona. This would allow the enemy the chance to intervene/intercept. If they kill your downed persona = 1 death. Player would still have to rtb rescue plane.
This seems like most suitable method of implementing without any negative side effects...

Instead of auto-refuling/rearming at the pads why not add something that requires more action.
- make it possible for the pilot to climb out of and into an airplane
- at the little boxes near the rearm pads add the possiblity to pick up the fuel hose and some ammunitation (not both at once though), and even bombs on little trolleys either at hangars or the ammo depots.
- let the player pick them up, and carry them to the plane :)
And... always spawn planes in hangars, with enough fuel and ammo for combat, everything else has to be picked up manually. That way jabo operation takes a lot more time than field defence, slowing down pork-and-auger. But that's more for ah2-classic.
And I guess it has nothing to do with downed pilot rescue, oops.
-
Now since when did the pilot do his own refuel/rearm? +)

I got another idea that might go with my first one.
A special squad of pilots that will fly missions like SAR, Pathfinder (marking night targets with flares and/or incendry bombs), and airborne recon missions.
So one mission they would be scouting out the layout of some place, the next they would be rescuing the people sent to bomb that target.
This idea would proburly only work in the ToD, where as the first would work in both.
If both were implamented, the downed pilot would have the option of either hiding somewhere decent and flying his own rescue plane and trying to find his own persona, or wait for a SAR team to find him. And also so he doesn't bored, let him find the materials to build his own rescue fire.

Why not program the thing that made WWIIOL hype all over the world,
"You can fly an airplane, then bail out, then jump into an tank, then you can jump out of the tank, jump into the jeep etc etc"
This was one of the best "vapor ware" promotion features imho...
Imagine bailing close to an enemy field, you sneek up to some dude getting ready for take off, you jump up on the wing and shoot him in his face with your gun, then you steal his aircraft!
How cool wouldnt that be? :)
-
Your Country-men shoot down your stolen enemy plane...
Nice thought tho.
-
Your Country-men shoot down your stolen enemy plane...
It wouldnt cause an problem... Your country-men would still see your handle as "Maniac" therefore i must be friendly...
Would be so cool if HT could program this, WWIIOL still dont have it in their game hehe...

I'm tellin ya, call it 'Grand Theft Aircraft: Aces High' :)

Yeah, we should be able to beat up officers and nick their money, then find a hooker to increase your health factor.

I kinda like the idea of pilot rescue.
The thought of some poor sole begging and pleading for hours at a time on channel 2 brings a smile to my face. Why, it would almost be enough to make me not want to pop chutes just to put the bad guy teams through it.
almost.

oct's first AH2 suggestion ok here i go:
Say a mission has just begun and the roll window (like the special events arena) has closed. Those who are late may choose to participate by flying a Storch/catalina/whatever to aid the bailed pilots. Perhaps, if points are involved, this will cut a percentage of the total loss of points if rescued. It would be similar to recieving a "You have bailed successfully" (50% of perks?) instead of a "you have been captured" (25% of perks?) message.
