Instead of making it a seperate download, the help manual should be part of the main AH download.  That would make it easier for the newcomers to find it and hopefully read it before logging on.  There would be less alt+f4 responses if the newcomers wouldn't ask basic questions that are answered in the manual.

Another reason why there should be a formal, organized training program like there was in AW and WB.  I remember in both games you could enter the training arena that was staffed by trainers that would teach both how to play the game and fly.

I never had no damn trainin!  Let these young whippersnappers learn just like I did.... AFTER I walked 5 miles uphill and barefoot in the snow to buy a computer!

I agree with ack-ack. I have noticed that some players are completely unaware of the Help application. It's got all the aircraft performance figures in it, and all the ord requirements for destruction of ground targets.

As for training, I had very, very little. The reason was that the training in WB was on offer mid-evening US eastern time - 2am here. We would need trainers to cover more hours of the day. The WB trainers got free flying, so there was a great incentive to become a =trainer= in the $2/hour days. Now that we pay only 50¢/day, there would be less incentive to participate in a training programme.

When you're in game, there is a great big HELP button on the clipboard which will take you to the manual on the website.

The people who 'cant find' the manual are the ones who never bothered to look.

Anyone who is lazy enough to ask a question on ch1 rather than first browsing the manual, and is then tricked into alt-f4ing deserves it.

It's not like an accidental alt-f4 is a big deal.

I have to agree with rod,  if ya dont wanna help a noob then fine.  Thats your choice. The alt-f4 thing is old and tired, and it doesnt say a lot for the maturity of the few who think its funny.

Over three years ago now, i started flying AH.  I got a lot of help from some of the 'vets'.  Not whats the button for x help, help on acm and strategy.  I am thankful to those guys.  So go on, help a noob and enjoy it when he thanks ya by handing ya yer prettythang at a later date.

I would like to see the manual coming as part of the download tho.

I don't like the Alt-F4 advice, but at the same time it is clear that some noobs make no attempt to help themselves by downloading the Help-App.

New Players are important to the game. If any of you don't think so, just take a look at what is happing at Warbirds.

If your sitting there in your cockpit, no fight around and you see a question come up, how hard is it to answer one simple question?  Nobody deserves it IMO.

I agree WldThing...you know most of us pilots have learned from our mistakes and our mistakes alone, sure many of us had trainers. I have, WldThing has, I have tried to get my dad to get a trainer, but he is very stubborn he says he just wants to "play the game". That's fine with me, but lemme teach you how to fly before you do that. Newbies HAVE to be willing to get help. If I was a newbie I would want every veteran to get in a room with me and teach me everything they know. Now a days noobies think they can do it themselves, they are wrong. It took some of us 3 years to get good at this game and people are still trying. People that came from other flights sims - AW, WBII/III think that they can get the flight model right away, which makes me wonder why they don't ask for help, because every game has it's own flight model.

It really depends on what the noob is asking for.  If they ask questions like how to turn on the engine or fire the guns, I have no problem giving them the correct answer.

If they ask for cheat codes (and there have been times people have asked for them), well, the old ALT-F4 cheat is most appropriate to give them.

Before the timer fuses were put on the bombs, anyone who asked for cheat codes would get tuned private by me and told 'Spawn on a runway and drop a 1000lb bomb and you become invincible'.  When they started crying i'd say 'Did I say invincible, i meant to say invisible :D

I agree anyone who asks for cheat codes deserves nothing more than that.

Create a channel "traning" that is tuned in as the first channel by default. Everyone willing to help can tune.

Oh, and increase the number of radios please ;)

the best thing you can do for new guys is to shoot em down.   And explain to em that it is uncool to sink the cv.

This solution has merit... force the new players into an environment that they can get response to questions in a fair manner and Squelch channel 1 by default.... maybe even a default training channel V...

rod you're 100% right.

Years ago I found some interesting looking game and just to see what it was like before possibly wasting a bunch of time in it, I clicked the online button.  You can guess what happened.

I quit and deleted it from my hard drive. My feeling at the time was; why waste my time, let alone pay money to play a game with a bunch of jerks. I'll never understand why people go out of their way to be rude, especially when it's so easy to ignore someone here.
