Just my opinion...but sorry to see a nice map with an awful plane set. don't care if it's accurate or not...just not worth the effort.

In what way is it awful? I think its a well balanced plane set
in an interesting period of WW2. P40 counters 110 and Hurri counters
the 109 and vice versa.

I had a lot of fun flying C202's on Friday night. Come on, when do you ever get to fly the C202 when it's not only competitive, but actually damned good??? :D

I dont think its that bad, the 202 may be a bit uber but not to bad. My only problem was i got caught in a 4 on 1 last night. It was me in my hurri agaisnt 2 109s and 2 202s. The problem wasnt the fact I was in a 4 on 1, it was my own fault I knew what I was getting myself into. My problem with the whole sitituaion was these guys took an HO on me every chance they got.
Come on its 4 on 1, is it too much to ask that you use some ACM and actually shoot me down from behind???:D

I love this plane match up.
2 very different fighter types Vs 2 other very different fighter types often makes a great match. No one plane holds all the cards.

Obviously it seems like I'm in the minority:)...not the first time:D.
Was the P40 E the really in use in 40-41...I'd think the B would be a better choice. I've flown both sides and had fun with each. The 202 is certainly the best performing plane but relatively punchless...actually a nice match vs P40. The 109 E is not worth scrap metal prices. Having flown the hurricane in the finland setup I cant see it being overmatched here in any way.

Just checked on net and 1st flight of a p-40D was in May 1941. The E model wasn't even off the drawing board till later that year.
From what I could see the only P40's to see comabt in 1941 were Australian and were C models. The E models didnt come into play till 1942 (niether did the 202's).
I certainly appreciate all the effort that goes into setting up the CT and dont wish to detract from the effort in anyway. I think were simply pushing into an area were the plane set is lacking a bit. Realistically the P40B should replace the E model as a closer representation. The 202 wasn't in service at the time (and I couldnt find any mention of 109E either. Was primarily CR-32's and 110's from what I read on axis side.

Well, 3 Sqn RAAF, and 112 Sqn RAF, Desert Air Force were flying the Kittyhawk (P-40E) in December 1941.
The 109E and the P-40B (Tomahawk) were the two main types from late 1940-41. As well as the HurricaneI, the MC200 (AH doesnt have it), and the usual LW attack a/c and bombers.
There is nothing unhistoric in the lineup, they saw action against each other. If you take out the P-40E you have to take out the MC202, its in the same category, and they were in service at @ the same time, late 1941 onwards.
I think not having the P-40B doesnt make much sense, it might as well be included, since the P-40E is already there.
Its really an early 1942 setup, but thats ok too, isnt it?

Most CT set up are a comprimise in one way or another, this one is no exception. 202's were first in service in October of 41, over Malta, shortly their after it was sent to NA. 109E's were used as jabo's in NA for a long time, and the P40E is included becuase it makes for a better match up, the P40B would be a horable match aganst the Axis planes. It is about creating a good plane mach up (one condusive to good fight's) as much as it is about trying to creat a historical feal plane wise for a given time frame/place.

I have to disagree on the 109E. I'm not one of the uber guys with the skills of an Eagler, Shane, or Eskimo, but I had a pretty good day Sunday in the 109E. I'm a bad shot so I hate any early war Axis plane for the simple reason of light cannon load, and useless MGs.
Once I got my head outta my 6 Sunday, and started energy fighting the Emil, against the Hurris and quit slowing down around em, I found the 109E more than a match. Lose your energy though and the Hurri will make you look for another hobby.
As far as not liking the setup............... I can understand that , theres very few everybody likes, if any. I hate the early PTO setups, Burma, and the Solomons make me scream bloody murder. Mainly because I suck in an A6M2. Hang in there bud Friday and a new planeset is nearly here.:)

I had a great time flying last night.
to all on last night, btw. I've mainly flown the P-40 this tour, primarily because of a throttle problem I'm having. My throttle axis is incredibly unresponsive, and basically has only to positions, off and full (and there's a horrible lag going from one to the other). Oh, and WEP works, so I guess that makes three positions. Anywho, the P-40 requires the least throttle management; you fly with it full 98% of the time (and WEP the other 2%). I loved flying the C202, but kept overshooting due to the throttle problem. This is a great matchup IMNSHO. Very balanced.

I see nothing wrong with a 1941-42 setup with SpitfireVs vs 109Fs and 190A5s. We can also do a Pacific setup with F4U-1s at some point in the Solomons vs Ki-61s. How about we try some historical matchups without the endless "one-upmanship" for once.
Would also be great to do a ETO or N. African 1943 setup with the SpitfireIX and the 109G2 included, lets do that too. How about a "real" ETO Spring 44 setup and leave the late 44 ac out for a change.
Lets do it all.

I still don't like the planeset/matchups much at all....but after flying it for a week I'll admit it's a bit better than I thought. One nice advantage to the CT is over time (once your done #$%#) you do learn the set a bit....landed a 7 kill hurricane hop, and a 10 kill 202 hop today....so obviously my original assessment was somewhat hasty and ignorant...you can kill stuff...just need a much more refined approach to gunnery (cept in the P40:)). I promise to wait till Tues before whinning about the next plane set:).
