Title: More beer goodness
Post by: Raubvogel on July 01, 2003, 09:36:58 PM
Still on my quest to drink every type of beer in the world, I've stumbled across another keeper!

Rogue Shakespeare Stout from the Rogue Brewery in Oregon. Great stout, real smooth, not as bitter as Guiness, with a bit more of a chocolate hint. Highly recommend it!

It's a shame I never was able to aquire a taste for beer... drink it on occasion to be sociable, but it always tastes bitter to me. It would be cheaperr than the rum I spend my time sipping on.

P.S. I just remembered... there is one beer I do like, Sudz made it for the last two cons I went to. Had a sweet taste to it, would have liked to have a couple of cases of that!

Pimping it for the uptenth time: Alpirsbacher Klosterbräu (http://www.alpirsbacher.de)

Their summer special is Alpirsbacher Ritter Maximillian. A umm, naturtrüb err "cloudy" say babelfish beer, very refreshing ;)

Maybe you're not drinking the right beer :)

If it's made in the US by any of the mega-breweries, chances are you've just missed out. There isn't a mass-produced American beer that is worth a damn. Most of my favorites are imported, but there are a few US microbrews that are pretty damn good also.

Devious, over here naturtrub is marketed as "unfiltered" :)  I've had Alpirsbacher, but it's been a few years. Very good beer that I remember. Unfortunately it is hard to find over here. Best I can usually find is either Paulaner or Spaten. Paulaner makes a very good doppelbock that I love.

Mark, have you tried a Honey Brown? Zero bitterness and a sweet aftertaste. Especially good on Tap. Stop by The Flying Saucer and try a pint!

I was noticing on the lenie site the "bitter" units per type of beer. What does that have to do with how bitter it tastes?

The Flying Saucer in Ft.Worth is near Sundance Square...forget which street. Also one in Arlington near I-30 and Cooper. Ultimate Beer Selection.

You sign up and keep record of all the different beers you have tried, untill you have tried them all. Think there is 150. Then they immortalize you and put your name on a "Saucer" and hang it on the wall.

I see, ok, no chance of that happening.

I am a card carrying member of the UFO Club.  Sadly, I have only made it thru 50-something of the 200 required to get your name on the wall.  That damn 3 a day rule is a pain.  :)

Hey Mark i would suggest to try a Weizen / Hefe Weissbier. Its very süffig (light and sweet - sry there is not exact translation), refreshing but still aromatic.

The best i can recommend at all is Franz Josepf Jubelbier.

"Every dram a party" :D
(http://www.sailer-braeu.de/pictures/m_jubelbier.gif)

Besides this jewel of german Braukunst the Altenmünster Brewery (Sailerbräu) has many other very uncommen beers like the great Steinbier brewed after a very old technique.

Steinbier is my favorite when I'm not in the mood to drink a Jubelbier but still want something tasty.

For those Pils lovers I can recommend a good made Pilsener Landbier from Ahornberger Brauerei

guess you mean what we call hefeweizen (as one word) wheat beer?

Never could handle a whole 6 pack of tho's; that single serveing bottle looks nice....

Know some mid-sized brewery's in the sates make some good batches.  Harpoon in Mass or Shiner in Texas both have decent hefers, as does Pauliner :D

Best beer I've had was in Bayreuth Germany... was Miasels Hefeweizen.  Drank that for 4 years and came back to the USA and every American beer tasted like water.

:D

sry i dont know .. never saw that before....

the berry weiss tastes like a wine cooler almost if that helps. ;)
it's really good or a picknik or small party.

Ps. Leine's is bottled by Miller (they bought the bottleing rights about 4-5 years ago.. but leine's has been around for like ever and NOTHING changed. just better distribution)
