Its a early report, But it looks like we will (the US) be sending Peace Keepers to Liberia
-
no blood for Liberia
Liberia is no way threat to USA, it's just ridicules
does france approve of this illeagle invasion of a sovergin nation
-
Hey Krusher.
Yea, I saw that. Damn fine show chaps....if you do go I will be right there with you guys on this BBS using this as an example of US involvement in a situation that does NOT involve oil or a direct terrorist threat.
I you.

Liberia was founded by "repatriated" freed slaves from the U.S.
It became a big Firestone rubber plantation and a cheap/corrupt place to register ships.
It still has strong U.S. ties.
-
Why dont we send GScholz, he seems to think he has all the military answers?
During the Iraq combat, he came on this board judging the tactics used by the US.
Oh I forgot, he ia a poser, who claims to have experience, when all he can point to is a massacre of innocents he was not involved in, and didnt stop even though it happened "on his watch".
I can't strongly enough state my opinion that we (the USA) are NOT the worlds police force, and we have no responsibility to involve ourselves. Let any one of the many arrogant countries in Europe step in, quite frankly we are busy enough with our current military affairs, dealing with situations that did have direct concerns to our own national security.

Pick up a history book if you want more examples. The 'war for oil' slogan is just bogus.

Hehe that's right Liberia has no connection with oil... Well, except for this. (http://www.usmm.org/socalships.html)

At least 30% of the ships in the world are Liberian registered.
It's a so-called "flag of convenience."
Want a Liberian terror link?
It wouldn't surprise me if Osama Bin Laden were hiding on a Liberian registered vessel at this moment.

Here's a better Liberian Registry funding terrorism link:
Liberia: Blood on the Flag (http://www.itf.org.uk/TI/ti7/english/2.htm)

So your point, dead, is that the U.S. is just after oil in taking action to quell chaos there?
-
Noo my point is you can link Liberia to oil if you want to - if you can't, you're just not using enough initiative. :D
It would certainly be advantageous to oil and shipping companies to have Liberia back as a non pariah country, because then they have a cheap registry that's prepared to look the other way over things like ownership/liability as well as possibly classification and manning issues. Last but not least, insurance claims are hard to obtain for foreigners, which is a bonus if your tanker has just spilt its guts out over a coastline. I doubt that's the sole reason for it, though. Good strategic position to have a base is a good reason, and diamonds might help too. Mostly I think it's a PR exercise partly to avoid looking like it was just about the oil in Iraq and partly to take everyone's mind off the continued fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. But I've always been a bit of a cynic.

I do think you are strertching it a bit though, keep looking I'm sure you will find evil in the US in anything it does.
