I recently changed my vidcard from preinstalled POS to Gforce 4 MX 440 SE. Still having some problems so it was suggested that I go into BIOS settings and disable old drivers.
I went into BIOS, said video card was set to PCI, which the new vid card is in a PCI slot, other option was onboard(which I take to mean built in)old card. So I made no changes and exited.
System would not boot up. I get the welcome screen and then the normal desktop. But, this security program pops up, says it's initializing, which never happened before, then everything locks up.
I thought that perhaps I changed something in BIOS without realizing it, so I went back in and set to default, same problem.
Running windows XP home on HP 514n. 2.2 gig processor.

Try turning the box off and pull out the new vid card. If it boots, check your handbook or manufactuers web sight for how to disable the onboard video and installing new vid card.
