Title: More Realistic Mission Verdicts
Post by: Halo on July 03, 2003, 11:32:54 PM
I know it's bottom priority, but more realistic mission verdicts would make Aces High II more fun and credible.

For example, tonight during an overwhelming Knights onslaught at a base, I ran out of fuel and decided to land at the base just before we would capture it.  Although it was still enemy, all acks were flattened, no aircraft were taking off, and there was no resistance at all.

My fighter was undamaged.  I deadsticked in on the runway and stopped.  I turned off my engine and exited.  Message says I am  captured.  Okay, I can buy that even though no enemy is in sight.  But then a message claims so-and-so shot me down!

No, not when I had zero damage.  Ridiculous. Cute and amusing in the most generous sense, dumb and distracting in the most serious sense.  Rectifying errant details like this will make Tour of Duty lots more immersive.

The really obvious thing would have been to wait for the field to be captured...

I agree, more flight 'verdicts' would be a good idea.

Obvious, sure, but I was out of fuel and knew what happens when deadsticking off the field (Captured).  I could buy Captured in the field deadsticking too, but not a kill to somebody when I exited my undamaged aircraft.  Capture yes, kill no.

That would be "Forced enemy to land and took him prisoner" during WWII this actualy happened at times, and the pilots did get those recorded as victories.

Nobody forced me to land.  I was out of fuel.   There was no enemy anywhere to be seen.
