Been a long time since I've played a good RPG. Have read some good reviews of this game, anyone here played it? Whatcha think about it?
-
I played through 3/4 and kinda lost interest for the time being. It is fun, but it gets a bit repetitive in single player - same old dungeon crawl and the "modern" nature of the dialog kinda kills the immersion for a Tolkein fan. I mean, there are NPCs who are "Archeologists" etc. Would it have been that hard to just call him a "Lore Master" or something remotely Medieval? It does have a good multiplayer interface I'm going to try soon.
I never played paper D&D before, but I guess the game lets you recreate that with a designated dungeon master and unique dungeons/quests, etc. I have a friend in Michigan who is heavy into that and has a Friday night fest every week.
For a single player RPG try The Fallout series, particularly 1 & 2, if you haven't already. For a first person shooter RPG that rocks, try Deus Ex, again if you haven't already.

I played Icewind Dale which I think Neverwinter nights is like a sequel to ? It kept me entertained, mostly hack-n- slash .

it's pretty good, tho it gets very repetitive, IMO.
supposedly the campaign on the expansion is better.
Of course, you can download 1000's (literally) of player created modules. Some are awful, some are good.
I was into the game when it first came out. I even wrote a couple of scripts to add-on to the AI to fix a couple of issues with the henchmen. One was added into another person's massive henchman update script. That script was actually worked into the expansion pack. I very seriously doubt my contribution was added as I'm sure Bioware fixed the issue internally in the code. My friend has the expansion, maybe I can check out the scripts and see if my code is in there at all. :) Oh well, before the expansion came out, I'm sure lots of players unknowingly had script code I wrote residing on their machines. :)

I agree with Charon. After a while, the single-player aspect of the game gets repetitive, eventhough the storyline is quite good. It's not like Baulder's Gate where you control a whole party, you are only one person.
I never got into the multiplayer part of the game but apparently it is groundbreaking with respect to the "dungeon master" part of it.
Give me 'till the end of the day and I will check if I still have it.

NWN... way to slow. Thought it was a good idea but the limited tile set, player world, creatures and map size don't cut it for me. Even the PW worlds can't save me. Instead I've dug up probably the greatest MUD ever to be created.
Tsunami
http://tsunami.thebigwave.net/
This MUD is everything I wished UO and NWN would have become. Tsunami is the biggest world I've ever seen and constantly growing from players adding class, races and areas. Plus the PVP is fair and fun. When I get burned out on AH strat gangbangs you can find me there.
EDIT anyone want my NWN? 30$ and its yours.

Sunking, still waiting to receive that CMBB mod link that you were going to send me & wklink. Have you checked the Mongrel BBS lately?
-
banana - you want a CMBB game, or are you too busy trying to kick Curval's bellybutton at UV? :D
-
Be nice Dowding. ;)
banana and my game is far from over...but I am going to request that we scrap that one..as it is such a short scenario, and start a Scenario 19.
Into it banana?
-
Neverwinter Nights is good, but Baldur's Gate 2 or Icewind Dale 2 are better. BG2 is probably the best D&D rpg ever.
-
Curval: Sure, which side would you like to be?
Dowding: Sure, I'm up for a game. Can we start with a small scenario? I'm a rank newbie. dahlen@charter.net
Just send me an email telling me how we should proceed.

Anyone Remember the orginal NWN from old school AOL.... back in the days of gopher databases, GEnie, and high bills? (1992-93 or so)
Well I played that .. haven't tried the new version. It's the only RPG I ever played; one of the first graphical MMOLRPG, along with that game on the serria (imagination) network .... (remember red baron on that?)
Judgeing from it's history and plot (based on books I used to read as a kid) it's proably a very good game. I'd check up on how they handle hacks tho .... orginal NWN was ummm... easy to hack, but that was 10 years ago.
Don't mean to change subject but...anyone else remember old online games besides AW (which I never got to work on GEnie)
Like
CyberStrike (GEnie)or
Red Baron (Sierra/Imagination) or
NWN (AOL)?
oh btw... orginal NWN was known for it's player made 'modules' too.

I used to play NWN on AOL.
Charon, I do not currently have NWN but would like to try the multiplayer stuff, can ya tell me more, please?
