While looking at a screenshot on HTCs page..(we are dying to see some new ones BTW), I noticed that the Spit firing its guns in flight shows muzzle flashes. That's just eye candy, right? I mean on a gun travelling forward at 300 mph or even 100mph you wouldn t see that flash in RL would you?

AFAIK, you never see muzzle flash in daylight, except on film.
-
Depends on the gun I'd say. A friend of mine and I went to the shooting range when his Freedom Arms .454 Casull arrived from the states. I think it has a 6 or 7 inch barrel and I do recall seing a muzzle flash..a pretty big one if I remember correctly. But I could be wrong since I was busy trying not to fall over backwards from that incredible kick! The bastard used the biggest load available in .454 (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

i dont know for shure but i have fired a single shot 50 cal browning machine gun and a 50 cal us machine gun muzzel flash during day is like fire durring day (i.e. bright sunlight no flash just smoke overcast a noticeable flash, night a 2 foot cone of fire)neither weapon had a flash supressor and on a 50 cal i dont think it matters.
ad far as the speed factor i just dont know i have seen pilot stories where gun smoke was plainly visable during firing(depends on gunpowder some smokes alot some very little).
and by the way that gosh dang 50 cal huntin rifle was a bear i had a purple mark after 4 shots that you wouldent believe. the rifle owner said people had held them wrong and broken their arm and i believe it . im 6'4 260 lb.
was a facinatin rifle like a bolt action sortof but strait forward and back to work the breech it was ex usa army used for hittin armored personel carriers half tracks ect. the idea was you get a sharpshooter and shoot a armor pericing round in a soft spot or eye slit and it bounces around and makes a mess of inside (i forget weight of projectile but about like a 2 inch round rock at 3/4 the speed of sound lots o kinetic energy to expend)picture a crazy ball inside a big barrel goin 3/4 the speed of sound lots o bouncin goin on and no people comin out. Little real damage and mayby a servicible vehical capture (after you clean out the inside with a hose)
he had hunted deer with it and the range of the thing was unreal ( like 1000 yds manshot no prob for even decent shot.
hehe now we know it would violate the geneva convention to use a 50cal on foot soldiers so you have to aim at the canteen hehe.

I have seen footage of Aircraft straffing at night, and a flash was visible.
I have seen the vulcan on the front of the A-10 fire in the day, and the muzzle flash was clearly visible.
I have seen footage of WWII aircraft and the A-8? they used in Vietnam, and All I can recall seeing is the little smoke rings in that cool looking pattern formed when they fired the gun in Daylight.
The smoke would look cool comming from the guns.
But that is eye candy, and I am willing to wait.

Ive seen daylight footage of a P-51D firing its 50's in flight and yes there was quite a large amount of muzzle flash. This footage was shot from another aircraft flying formation just under the Mustang's left wing. The flashes were about the size of watermellons (for lack of a better reference) and roughly 2/3's of the flash extended back over the wing surface due to the aircraft's speed. Of course the brass being ejected was also visable. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) These flashes were very quick unlike 'WB style' flashes that are look more like blanks being fired through a MAC-10. I wish I had that video so I could post a screen shot of it. Of course the flash was also accompanied by fair amounts of smoke. Speaking of smoke I've seen footage of a Corsair firing its guns in a dive leaving distinct 'ticker tape' type smoke trails in the sky. Any chance that we'll see this effect in addition to the tracer smoke?
Hope all this gets realistically modeled in AH. Watch The History Channel and chances are if they dwell on the subject of the P-51 for any length of time you'll see the footage I'm refering to.

BTW, use of .50 against troops is NOT a violation of Geneva Convention -- it is an anti-personnel, anti-light armored vehicle type weapon. Just one of oz's causes, sorry. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

My father used a Browning M2 as a single shot weapon while serving on perimeter defense for a 101st ABN base in Vietnam. They mounted a starlight scope on it and he said it was amazing how far you could hit with it. He was a AAA platoon commander and with no enemy planes to shoot at, they were assigned to defend the base. One of their other nasty weapons was an M113 APC with an M-61 Vulcan on it. It was nominally an AAA weapon but he says it was so effective against infantry that a body count could not always be obtained.
-
M-61 Vulcan? That's a minigun, right?
With that kind of thing shooting at infantry I guess the term should be body(parts)count. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I have read stories about the Korean War.
Chinese wave attack of say 50,000 troops attack say 1500 to 4000 American/British/Aussie/So Ko/Whatever Forces.
U.S. Brings in the 4 Barrel 50Cal. AntiAircraft gun (Thud 50)
U.S. Points Gun at Chinese Wave attack.
Thud 50 Pokes Holes in Attack.
U.S. Forces Retreat to Second Thud 50 Back,
Repeat Processs until Wave attack is Defeated.
Send Trucks to collect Bodies.
Was Supposed to be a real mess.
Must have looked like Fredricksberg below the Stone Wall.

The A-10 does not carry the 20mm M61 Vulcan Cannon! It carries the 30mm GAU-8 Avenger Cannon! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Ozremembers seeing one of those track mounted Vulcans fire once when we were at NTC. Everybody pulled up to this empty area backed by a hillside and was test firing. We couldn't shoot 'cos they didn't want to get TOW wires all over the place. So we sat up on top of the turret and just watched. The Vulcan track rolled up, made this loud burping noise, and the entire back hillside just erupted in a cloud of dust and rocks. Was very impressive, and thankfully pointing the right way. A minigun is more accurately this same thing in a smaller caliber (7.62mm instead of 20) that is more portable -- tho still, ozimagines vehicle mounted at all times. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

What? Ain't you seen "Predator"? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
-
I wouldn't want to carry the gun they used in predator, you would have to be a professional wrestler, or Former Navy Seal to carry that around.
I hated carrying the M-60, two spare barrels, and 1500 rounds. Try running with all the crap, and personal weapons and gear in your MOPP Gear, on a HOT DAY.
IT BLOWS.

i met a fellow who manned one of those quad 50s at a lawyer freinds office ( i swear everyone in texas over 40 is a vet)he told us about it said they had to have special guys to go push the bodys that piled up near the guns down with special long sticks between waves,
as they would form a ramp and get in the field of fire (and the guns were on elivated posittions!! ( he said it went on for days) and almost none of them had guns, just sticks and such. he was a texas cowboy, type where if you arent a freind/kin killin you is just a thing ( zen masters in a way) he wouldent even estimate the numbers, said he couldent even guess hundreds of thousands at his small, 4 guns in a valley pass position
make you wonder anout the chinese side of the story why the heck did they allow this to be done to them ? anyone know the chinese side of this ?
dang sad all around didnt acomplish anything,
like pickets charge an anacranism

Towd, it's HATRED.
Just imagine Russian soldiers in a bayonet attack. Everyone knows that only one of ten will survive, but they rise and attack.
Once I talked to a former infantry platoon commander. (very few of them survived at all) He said he just can't remember what happened during bayonet attacks...
Another man told me that they didn't even take their "narkom's" 100grams of vodka before the attack. The ones who drank it died first. They just HATED. That's all...

sheesh what did we do to them? i dont mean to be sarcastic for once.
russians not needen any help to attack a larger force with greatly inferior wepons i can see (you boys wanted a pound of flesh and got it).
but he chinese soldier had to be more of a farmer herded into war. unless they have a huge "mass of unarmed cannonfodder corps" in the chinese army.
hey i dont say they dont i just think they must have to misslead those poor stick armed fellows.
unlike your galent forfathers in russian who were fighting a uninvited war of genocide.
and cool that they gave you a belt before dieing think it would help 100grams is 1/10 a right just enough to get a good buzz if you belt it on a empty stomach.
you boys got my respect. im still tryin to decide about the motivations of our chinese freinds
