Hiya all.
Djust an word of warning, now that the music companys are out to bust the home users for sharing files it may be an good idea to ensure that you dont have an trojan on your system.
Theres these little proxy-trojans wich very few are even detected by AV, these proxy-trojans enables an "hacker" to do all his surfing and downloading "thru" your computer. So if he shares his files on Kazaa, it looks like its you that is sharing his stuff with the rest of the world.
And because of this you may get an warning or get sued by the record companys....
So it might be an good time to start watching your modem lamps (adsl etc) if the send/recive lamps are blinking like crazy and your not downloading anything then there might be an problem....
Djust an heads up for yall!
Regards.

This sounds like the beginings of a good legal defense strategy if you do get sued by a record company.
"Er, uh, it wan't me, it was a hacker"
-
Exactly!
The sad part is that pedofiles can use this excuse.... Read that an dude with child porn on his computer got away with it due to him having an trojan on his comp...

Only tards use P2P apps anyway.

i tried DCplusplus but dont have enough shared material to get good servers....
what else is there? FTP? where do you find the FTP addresses?
sry to sound like a dork, but even though i know alot about computers and stuff... i know relativly little about "newsgroups" and such... in fact i didnt know they still existed. last i heard about them was in A+ training 3 years ago. i heard thats how the internet formed in the begining.
if they are still up how do you get to them?
is there software needed?
where do you find the server addresses?

Download mIRC from download.com
go to http://www.packetnews.com to search
click on the #..... these are channels
within the channels are bots for example MP3|DCC24
packetnews will tell you what bot has the software you are looking for and what packet # it is on that bot
say.... MP3|DCC24 windows xp pro is packet #5
you would type in the text buffer at bottom
/msg MP3|DCC24 xdcc send #5 and voila there you go, must bots have que lines that you have to wait in, but you can try them all on packetnews and hopefully find a bot without a que
-
for example
Channel: #shockwave
bot seen slots que kps pack gets size description
[SW]-Lust 23/25 145.5 #2 45x 683M Microsoft Flight Simulator
2004 A Century of Flight CD1 iMMERSiON
want movies??
[EWG]-SHiNBaD #2 784M Sinbad SVCD TS Centropy 2 2
-
ok thats just too much a pain in the arse LOL .... i'll stay with kazaa lite.
i dont share anything once its downloaded. i move it to another folder anyway :D
-
Yeah its rather combersome, BUT the cool thing is you get stuff WAY before it comes out especially music. For instance i downloaded FS2004 a week ago, and yet it doesnt come out till the end of the month. Got several CD's 2 weeks to 1 month before they hit the stores. With Kazza you never know what your gonna get, with mIRC its 100%
-
when i click on the # of the one i want it does nothing or page not found. am i missing something?
-
If you have mIRC downloaded and installed and setup with username etc, it will automatically open mIRC when you click on the channel name, then you go from there.

*checks the forum name couple times, just to be sure he hasn't gone to warez boards*

*And it still says O´Club*

thanks sunking. i installed it and figured out how to ask for a file and i get to download it but it tells me to set it up to recieve file but i havent figured out how to do that.

Its in "options" in the DCC options, choose auto accept DCC transfers or something like that.
Be carefull tough, if you have auto accept on "DCC" then Mirc will accept any file sent to you from other IRC users.
Regards.
-
Ok, I'm just thinking here....
But a direct connect file transfer over Kazaa is different from a DCC over MIRC how?
In both cases your directly accepting a file from another computer. All I see different is what Front End your using to directly connect to another computer.
-

No one said that they were different here i guess... I think i know what you are getting at... If they manage to ban Kazaa is Mirc/IRC next?
I would say no, because Mirc/IRC is not primarily used for transfer and sharing files...
-
pandora's box is open .. they can't put it back in .... anyway "copyrighted" music sux .... live music rocks !!! Record companies abused thier customers for too long ... a CD should not cost 15-18$ anywhere... they cost next to nothing to make, a bit to distribute..... and too much to 'advertise' ....and mainstream music suxs anyway.... why do you think noone listens to the radio unless they're driveing :p
Anyway .. they will never stop fileshareing .. never ... they may kill kazza ... but anyone remember Napster?
what about direct connect ...
or winmx
or MLdonkey
or IRC channels.....
and that's just a basic list .. they will only be able to go after the "big" dogs like Kazza.... so in other words... ya can't put the genie back in the bottle....
-
Maniac,
here is what I was refering too....
Only tards use P2P apps anyway.
and
With Kazza you never know what your gonna get, with mIRC its 100%
And then there is alot more like that over in the other Kazaa thread.
I was just pointing out that, as far as I know, the two methods are identical except for the front ends your using to make the initial hookup with the other computer. Neither is totally safe, nor guarantee's your actually getting what you think your downloading. So always play it safe, with either method. Use a good virus scanner, AND a good trojan scanner.

Not only that but you need to allow for the file type. Most are in *.tar format so just add " *.tar " to your allow list and you are good to go.
You'll need winRar to unzip the file once downloaded.

Kazaa is a P2P client IE your computer is directly connecting to someone elses computer and downloading from there shared file. With IRC you are not accessing someones personal computer and getting any file of their shared folder. IRC uses "shells" that only allow you to download what is being offered for download on a said channel. Been using mIRC for 3+ years and downloaded thousands of files and NEVER have I not gotten what I specifically was looking for. mIRC is for above average computer users and not a simple point and click download ala Kazaa. Viruses abound on Kazaa as well as fake songs put out by the record companies, which hundreds of thousands of people download and thus end up being shared by millions of people essentially making that song or songs much more prevelant than the "actual" song. The record companies actually pay people to do this.

DCC tab at top
options
opens new window
on left DCC + tab
check auto get file and minimize
then folders
dcc ignore disabled
unclick turn dcc ignore on in 3 minutes
also in sounds check, disable sounds or else it will get annoying real fast, constant beeps etc.

how do i use #mp3passion that stuff scrolls by way to fast, I am only used to doing xdcc lists on bots, but i see that channel has no bots, is there a way to search?
-
So always play it safe, with either method. Use a good virus scanner, AND a good trojan scanner.
Even then you cant be safe, i can put an trojan inside an ISO file wich AV cant detect, and this is an known trojan to the AV prog...
Once i put an backdoor/trojan in Norton Antivirus 2002 and it worked like an charm...
-
I didn't say it was totally safe :) I just said to take what precautions you can.

Dont even look at what is scrolling. Just request song lists from the users that are voiced or op'd in the channel
ie: @sunking
Then copy/paste your request into the channel
ie: !bucman The Cult - Sonic Temple (1989) - 01 - Sun King.mp3
Their scripts will respond with your requests and will show you your que position. Remeber in your sound settings to uncheck "send !nick file as private request" .
There is a user in that channel " elmer1 " ,this guy has some kinda connections becuase he has every album weeks/months before it is out. Every Tuesday I jump in there and request his song list just to see what is new. Hes even cool enough to to show a new release list at the top of his document so you don't have to search through 10k songs.
You can also use the find command to look for music.
ie: @find sunking
Only problem with that is more and more users turn it off so you are forced to request their txt document and do a search through that.

Trojans?
What do Rubbers have to do with this?
-
Thanks SunKing, pretty cool the only thing is the ques are insanely long 47 people when I tried to get one song.

Yeah you gotta jump around and hope you find someone that isn't as popular. Speeds are slow enough so you can have mirc running along with AH and not notice the lag.
ps: When I tried packetnews it took me 1.5 hours to get an album. Go figure. Guess we wait or use the newsgroups.
-
thanks. i downloaded a large program that was in several RAR files, i decompressed them but they didnt recombine into the original file. anyone know how that works?
-
download winrar... use google to find it...
-
i did but they still didnt return to the original file after decompression.
-
It could do this if you are missing one .rar file... it has to have them all to "re-join" them... Or an file could be corrupt...
-
i figured out the problem, they did rejoin but there is no .exe file to start the instalation. but thank you anyway.

Hmm.. looks like a job for ISO buster?
