Title: Another Saturday Night Ruined.....
Post by: Yeager on July 12, 2003, 11:41:25 PM
By darkness.

I understand the mission clock but the honest brutal truth is night time is the equivalent to barracks time.  No flying.

Good night and, sleep tight.

do what everyone else does and turn your gamma setting up during the night time.

Night requires higher SA than normal. Please don't log when it gets dark, we need targets!

Or just turn off the lights in your computer area. Hopefully you know where your keys/buttons are if not then get some NVG's and fly. :D

Night time is not that big of a deal. Its easy to fly in and you can smack some bombers who time their HQ runs by the game clock. One night (game time) I dropped in on a flight of 9 bombers with two wingmen about three grids off the HQ and brought 7 down with the 8th and 9th hurting bad and eventually crashing.

Maybe HT could make night a user option, like tracers on or off.

Then the guys that think flying day VFR fighters at night is cool could do that and the guys that think flying day VFR fighters during the day is cool could do that.

Just a thought.

Here is something that perplexes me.

HT has to know that many if not most "game" the night with contrast/brightness/gamma, but yet it is still here.

In a realistic setting with realistic night fighters/bombers it might be fun.  In the MA it is not.

I dunno, guys. I think its kinda kewl, myself. Doesn't last all that long anyway.

~shrug~

culero (doesn't screw with monitor settings, either)

Won't game the game by playing with my monitor's gamma/brightness.  So for me, night just serves as a handy reminder to log off and do something productive.

night sux and has always sucked. many who fly at "night" just adjust their setting to mke it "not night".

I was glad ht pulled night the 1st time. Maybe hes listening.

Nigh yime sux.

The ct had done away with night as well. Then suddenly it came back. when I use to care about flying in ah I used to go to the ct until 4 in in a row it was night in the main and the ct. Then I said f'it and mostlyfly il2/fb.

The have night modeled way better they but it still sux. The good thing is theres always some other room to fly in.

Always seems like I work to make 45 minutes in my day to play AH and I log in and... it's night in the MA.

Log in, log out.

Welp...gaming the game is what the 'creator' does. :) This would lead me to believe that it is what he intended.

Personally, I enjoy the nights.  All kinds of strange things come out when the sun goes down and it's worth looking for them.  For instance, on some maps PTs can spawn from nme bases near your base, and at night it's like schooling fish.  Only they leave wakes so it's easier for you to kill them than vice versa.  Talk about a seagull feeding frenzy ;).  And even with monitor and gama settings tweaked, the dark still causes some problems.  The best one is that the sight for the twin 5" guns on CVs basically disappears, so if you want to sink a CV and live, do it at night :).

You should not have your brightness all the way up.  It will make you visibility at night worse as this prevents gray shades from rendering properly (if at all).

Free stuff (was featured in last month's MaximumPC mag).

Nighttime

Pros:
(a) Limits the numbers of Spitfires, LA-7s, and N1K2s that are in the air;
(b) Limits the possibility of ground vehicles being spotted from the air; and
(c) Breaks up the monotony of having the same lighting all the time.

Cons:
(a) Spit, LA-7, and N1K2 pilots can't see.

There you have it.  The Pros outweigh the Cons.  Now get out of your baby rides and fly real men's planes.

By the way, I scored my all-time record for most kills without a death while doing short-range base defense at night, without radar.   11 kills, the last 3 while missing a wing gun. I tried to land several times, but the Bishops kept coming!

So I get up Sunday morning, grab a coffee.  Relaxed and wanting to play some, I log on 9:30am pacific and guess what?

THE SUN IN AH MA IS SETTING.

I cant believe it.  I seriously need to just cancel, take some time off.

The gods had foreseen your logging on.

You can't escape your fate.  The Oracle at Delphi has proclaimed that you will discover the true Aces High night fighter.  And the Oracle also says something about marrying your mother and killing your father and you blinding yourself, hence the need to learn to fight in pitch-black darkness.

Look within yourself.  You know this to be true!
