Are there any air conditioning experts here? I have a couple questions about central air...the coils specifically.
What is the normal life expectancy of coils? I have a 3 year old unit and the coils are leaking. Am kinda ticked off about it...about $1000 worth LOL.
Anyway, any serious responses are welcome.:D
Thanks in advance.

You should expect at least a 10 year life out of them. They are probably still under warranty.

A decade ago it was 7 years, so 10 years now is probably what I'd say too. Warranty coverage is a wonderfull thing, if ya have it.

Thanks for the responses guys.
Carrier has a 1 year limited warranty on parts, so they won't replace them without charging for 'em, at least on this unit. I bought this unit new 3 years ago for around $4k, and now, it seems, am gonna have to pay another $1k to have the coils replaced.
LOL, even paid extra for the service package. Guess I won't be needing that anymore. I'll buy a window unit before dealing with Carrier again, if they don't address this issue to my satisfaction. Meanwhile, I have a relatively new, $4000 A/C unit sitting behind my house with defective coils. I think the coils had a small leak from the day of installation.
Anyone know how I can get in contact with Ralph Nader? Do I have legal recourse, or does anyone know of a consumer group that handles complaints of this nature?
