Title: Aircraft Colors and markings

I was flipping through a new book I picked up recently and found some interesting things in it.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Did you know that during WWII there was a squadron of pink spitfires.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

And one of the B24 Groups had yellow planes with red polka dots all over em  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

hehe neat, I got tons of pics of these planes for those who may be interested in seeing some neat paint schemes.


the one I like the most is pretty unremarkable, what it represents is the interesting part.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) A BF109 with the german olympic paint scheme for the squad which flew aircover for the German olympics.

Not sure about the pink Spits, but I think the yellow with red spots buffs were either pathfinders or used to form the groups as they took off prior to heading to the target.

Yes, there were pink Spitfires. I think they were used in PR (photo reconnaissnace) sorties in desert and pink was best suited for the task. Maybe they flew in dusk or dawn when the sun was near horizon and sky was pint too.
