Title: IFR Software
Post by: Badger on July 17, 2003, 07:22:06 AM
Some advice from real life IFR pilots would be appreciated.....

What PC based software would you recommend for initial IFR training and re-currency practice?

Thanks

Real authorized software is very expensive. The MS games and such are not  valid for training or maintaining currency. If you read any of the regular flying magazines you may come accross a few adds for FAA "accepted" software for use in IFR training but it won't be cheap.

Check out X-Plane:

The FAA has approved it for certain training, and it has a very nice flight model.  It is also very affordable, especially interesting considering the power in it.  You can set up a control computer that an instructor/friend can use to initiate equipment failures and FADEC events and more.
