Guys, I need your email address that you'll be using for our game of Diplomacy so that I can send you all the secret password to join the game.
Please post it here, or send me an email at jdahlen@us.ibm.com
If you send me an email, please remember to include your callsign so I know who the email is from. :)
Here are some good links to get you started on understanding Diplomacy:
To register go here:
http://www.floc.net/dpjudge/dppd/
Here's a good spot to start reading about Diplomacy: http://www.diplom.org/
You can ignore anything said about using the "Ken Lowe" system. We use the "DPJudge" system.
Here are the official Diplomacy rules(in pdf format):http://www.avalonhill.com/rules/diplomacy.pdf
Here's a great spot for reading up on strategy. http://www.diplomacy-archive.com/resources/strategy.htm
Once I get your email address, I'll send you each an email explaining how to join the game.

Sent. Will be at the con for the weekend, so I dunno how much I'll be checking email and the BB. Apologies in advance if I take a while to reply to anything else.

Actually... can I come over and kick your dog just for drill?
I'm in... Power#1.
Oh... and YGM = "You've got mail."
-
The game will automatically start when all seven players have joined.
I have the "Civil Disorder" rule enabled. What that means is that if you miss a deadline, the DPJudge does your turn for you. Which means that during a movement phase, all of your units will do nothing. They will sit there and "hold". If you miss a retreat deadline, the judge will disband your unit! And if you miss a build deadline, then the judge will waive your build.
As you can see, it would be a good idea to not miss a deadline.
If you run into extremely urgent circumstances, like you'll be out on vacation on a deserted island for a week, then just send a broadcast press out to everyone asking for a delay for that phase. If the majority of folks don't have a problem with that, I'll gladly extend the deadline for a phase until you get back.

(although they laid traps on tuesday, so that might be the end of my dogs/squirrels)

Email sent...thanks banana! And I don't think they'll kill your dog, I think they'll hunt you down like a dog and kill you if you break the rules. After that, I'm afraid to even joke about thinking of cheating. Yikes! :D

We have four people who have joined the game:

Sikboy
SOB
Schadenfreude and Tarmac have sent me their email address, and have the instructions how to join, but have not done so yet.
I still need Engine's email address.

am player no 4758 on the DPPD

That's the first part... now you have to send an email to the judge to join the game. banana sent the format. IIRC it is:
signon oclub yourpassword privacyword
signoff
-
Schadenfreude, I just sent you the instructions again on how to join the game. Let us know if you have any trouble.
-
Ok, Schadenfreude is in the game, so that leaves just Tarmac and Engine.
If they don't show up for the game by early next week, we'll probably need to find replacements for them.
-
Hey, to you guys who know what you're doing...I've been reading the official rules from Hasbro...will that work for the online game for the most part?

The rules are the same, SOB. You just have to learn how to communicate with the Judge and then you'll be all set.
Oh... and hope that you don't get Austria. :D
-
Heh, OK, I'm retarded. I just noticed my link is the same as the one of the links banana posted. :)

I'm still here, just at the con. Just haven't had time to read all the stuff yet.
Is it ok if I do it all on sunday evening? There's a pretty full day planned here saturday, and Sunday I'll be driving home.
-
Sure, np Tarmac.
-
Another punt. Engine, Tarmac, I need your email addresses so that I can send you the private word and instructions on how to join.
If I don't hear from you by tomorrow morning, I'm going to start soliciting other people to take your place.
-
Expected SIGNON, JOIN, CREATE, RESIGN, TAKEOVER, SUMMARY, HISTORY, or LIST,
or a valid non-map-power join command (e.g., OBSERVE playerName@gameName).
Unprocessed portion of message follows:
JOIN oclub [my password edited out] [game password edited out]
SIGNOFF

Ok, tried again. For some reason it worked this time.
In.
-
6 ready, one still unaccounted for. Tomorrow morning I'll start looking for a replacement for Engine if I don't hear from him. I know you guys want to get this game rolling.
-
Sorry gents, I missed this thread. Should've skimmed harder. :)
Have fun, and I'll try for the next one. :)
