Title: CV landing in AH2
Post by: straffo on July 18, 2003, 04:56:40 AM
What about adding a "batsman" like in this pict :

There is  only 12 bitmap needed :

Why the hell is the batsman hanging in the air bonded on a green linen with yellow signs at his hands? Shouldnt he stay on the deck?

That's a common misconception.  Those little paddles actually helped the batsman to gain lift and levitate.

Hey, is that my screenshot!?!?!?!?;)

Yeah,  there is no real need for it, but it would be cool whether the LSO (Landing Signal Officer)   is in 2D in a box or a 3D model on the carrier deck.

I liked that idea when it showed up in "Aces of the Pacific" :)

Maybe a ON/OFF option to use in CV landings? Some people might prefer the instructions coming from deck officers, others might just hate something clogging up the view, and would decide to trust their own instincts.

That is a good idea for CV landings. Though the flight part of landing isnt whats hard, its the darn CV captains driving the boat around like a 16 year old taking his/her first drivers test. Hate it when wheels just touch the CV then the boat turns and you go into the tower or your on approach and the CV makes a hard right turn.

If they make the guy with the paddles waiv you off if the captain is about to turn the boat, or is ploting movement waypoints. That would be cool.

It would help keep me from catching first wire and being tossed backwards off the ship.

Very good idea  (as a user selectable option lile combat trim and auto-takeoff).

A lot of people don't fly to or from CV's much and this would help quite a bit imo.

Post by: Turbo76 on November 07, 2003, 03:35:23 AM
always turn it in 15* turns to the right to avoid running into the bridge
:aok

What we need more than an LSO is a more realistic carrier landing where if you miss a wire you gotta go around again not just hit the wheel brakes. I dont think a b17 should be able to land on a carrier, but it can.:D

Why would it be needed? Maybe in the TA? It's so easy to land on a cv what you need the little man for?

Seems like it would be useless and a waste of time.

Anything anyone suggests other than you is useless and a waste of time. You haven't made a CV landing in AH in quite awhile. Yeah, it's the same .... but you're just text now. ;)

would our little paddle guy have to be called roger too?
Title: CV landing in AH2
Post by: Arlo on November 07, 2003, 12:40:24 PM
Yes .. all paddle guys were called "Roger." Except on Aussie ships where they're called "Bruce" ... and French ships where they're called "Pierre." All done to avoid confusion.

I just hope they fix CV physics so that when your wheels are on the deck, you stay on the bloody deck, and your motion is relative to the deck.  CV flight decks in AH1 are virtually frictionless.

There are plenty of good suggestions. This just isn’t one of them. The only thing good would be if it were to help the FNGs. Just like the gunnery and bomber help all ready in game. Even then its "help" would be minimal.

The little man flapping his arms won't make any difference once you have done it more then twice.

now you know if you got a kill while in the paddle flapping mode as you were levitating . people would want them perked too cause it killed them

and i thought we all liked hitting end of deck and blowing up on landing...lol

But its Ok we all crash once in a while. any one here says they dont "experienced or newbie "  is full of it. when manning guns i see many old guys crashing on landing wheni watch them come in. I watch how they do it from gun position then go to TA and practice I have to go full flaps, slow and raise up from seat all the way to see over nose of plane and land. the only way i know how. dont know if there is a easier way.

I'm sorry if you cannot land on a cv without some idiotic pic telling you what to do, dont take off of a cv. Or go spend some time in the training room.
It's possible to land any plane in ah on a cv fairly easy.

we get some real swells going under the CV and that might be necessary

The reason the real navy used batsman is because they recruited incompetent moron and not some L33T flightsim nerds pilots ...

Can you forget your 5year+ online experience and think of the newbies ?

There is so much arrogance and self-suffisance in your head Batz that there perhaps not enought place for your neurons.

Go suck on a snail.

Just because you made a pointless and useless suggestion isn't a reason to get uppity with me. There's no pitching and rolling of the cvs in ah. Landing on a CV is as easy as landing on a land based runway. People even land bombers on CVs without your little batman.

There are numerous other things that have been suggested that make far more sense then a little man flapping his arms. If you plan on making public suggestions then you need to butch up a little and learn to deal with criticism.

Besides I thought frogm4n's reply

whatever that is.

This isn't even an original idea. It goes way back to when we first got CVs. HT has not added it yet.

i fail to see how a little figure flapping his arms is going to help anyone...and so far i havent met anyone who couldent land on a cv after trying once or twice...

I say if it's something that twists Batz' (aka WOTan) panties ... then it's really starting to look worthwhile. :aok
