Connections remain bad despite cable, and I can't handle the frustration of fighting it any more. Tired of whining on the open about it, no one needs to hear that, so the ol' account gets closed for good.
It has been fun here, made and met a lot of friends here, and I wish you all the best.

Sorry to see you go, I'm back on a dial up so I share your pain. Connection issues are a squeak for sure. Hope to see ya back online someday.
All the Best

Cable is notorious for problems..
Get DSL.
-
Now that I have DSL, Ive noticed some odd stuff, but overall good. I think I've hear cable sucks from more than one person. Get DSL.
Actually, a good clean 56K modem works really well for AH and dialups are dirt cheap.
Sounds like you stayed with cable till it drove you nuts, which may not be the best way to fix your headache. It seems like it would be better to try some alternatives first.
Go 56K for the next release, level some Osti's in the Il2, and if it doesn't work, then quit. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Kieran,
Hope you can find a way to stay. You are the kind of player we need.
Best of luck.

C U , think you were the first player I meet in AH , u were a trainer then .
I only connect at 26400 here in Mi but almost never see the lag u talk about . I have seen it from some test ISP's I had ( had 3 at one time )
Well anyway , sounds like you get that kind of lag I had from ATT Net , man that sucked , if thats what you get I feel your pain . They would be in front of me shooting at me . I switched ISP and then no problems .
I know from reading some of your posts that you have tried everything .
I really enjoyed most of your posts here on this board , the kids you teach must be a lucky bunch too btw .
Take care and gb ,
spro

Really sad to hear that kieren. I urge you to take a month or so off and give it another try then. I know i havent been flying much lately with work and all but I cant remember ever hearing you whine, not once in the nearly 3 years in the skys of AH and DOA.
I ususally stay out of I quit threads but i had to say here that you will be missed. I hope you will reconcider this time.

Play on a 56K connection here.. no complaints. With the code being set in stone for every type of connection, dial-up is just as good as DSL or Cable for this game.
It's only in FPS games that high bandwidth connections matter.
If you are interested in going to a dirt cheap (10$/mo) dial up... I can send you to some sites to help you tweak the crap outta your modem. I connect between 48000 and 53000... pings are always sub-150ms and I'm about 16 hops the main route.. 12 hops alt route.
If you plan on staying: weissdr1@yahoo.com and I'll send you some sites to get you set up for dial up (unless you want to stick with high bandwidth.. then I'd hafta say DSL is better way to go).

Your problems are probably BECAUSE you have cable. It's shared bandwidth. Latency and throughput are very sensitive to the load that your neighbors are placing on the system, but you probably already know that. Try using a good dial-up provider in the interim and then order ADSL, if it's available. I can't speak for the major RBOCs because I have Frontier LighningLink (Rochester NY), but my service gives great connections in AH. Also, they just upped the downstream to 3 Mbps, no extra charge, because they are in heavy competition with Road Runner up here. It's good to be the king. =)

Hope you stay around on the boards, Kieren. Your thoughtfulness and civility is always a refreshing change from the usual smack-fest on the BBS.

Cable modem connectivity is a function of the quality of the ISP provider in your area. I have a cable modem and I have very little problems overall. DSL wasn't available at the time, and I might even be too far away from a switching station for DSL to even work, I think it's 18,000ft. Anyways, if your cable company overloads your node with clients, you're going to get degraded performance, especially if many people are on at the same time. As it is, my node is generally pretty clean. I get good transfer rates on DLs and I have only seen the little beacon light go yellow once in AH, and no one has ever said "Damn Nifty! yer warping all to hell! stand still so I can shoot yer arse!" Just wanted to say that cable modems do work for some people. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Sorry to see you go because of a connection issue. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) I had to cancel my Ultima Online account once because it kept locking up. Took me a couple of months to find out that it had a memory leak when in full screen mode on a Banshee card. Point being it sucked having to quit a game you enjoy because of technical reasons.

Oh man Kieran, sorry to hear this. You are one of the few (you know what I mean) my friend. If I can be of any assistance, give me a yell. Network comms is my biz. Maybe I can help?
-
sorry to hear that - good luck!

Ahh sad to hear about this Kieren. I hope you get yer connect sorted out sometime and I look forward to seein' ya in the skies again someday. Cheers.

No more New Baby Harp Seals! Sheesh, Kieran and the Mighty1 <S>. Have known and respected you both since DoA, may your skies be free of turbulence and hopefully we'll see you back when the winter doldrums set in again (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) (or maybe even in WWII Online)
