Spoke to a few folks at the Con last night, and was disappointed to hear they were told no new planes were in the AH2 update.
Granted, the game engine, mission arena, and reskinned planes are like getting a whole new game, but considering the number of threads about new planes I've seen, I'm thinking some folks are going to be disappointed. (Me, yeah a little...was hoping for something to spend my bomber perks on..)
Anyone else hear the same thing from their people at the con?
I'm just wondering how accurate my info is.
-
I think its likely your info is correct. Remember they have to redo all the existing planes to bring them up to AH2 standards, and that's quite a few.
Sad, new planes are a big factor in keeping the game fresh.
-
how many planes do we need in a game 300?
every possible flight characteristic is modeled already and a few that defy physics so what else is needed?
how about better graphics and eye candy like explosions and clouds. forget about the dorks that try playing this game with a 286 and 4 megs of ram or a 2400 modem they cant afford to play 15$ a month anyways and shouldnt be. Crank this game up on its graphics , heck anyone can build a sizzling system nowadays for 600-1000 bucks. Let'er'Rip !

are you from fighter ace?

Haven't heard that but its not surprising. I would think that just redoing the graphics engine and updating the current aircraft would be all they can handle at the moment. Now I would like to see some newer aircraft a couple of months after the release but I want them to get the game done right first.
-
Let them get AH beta out the door first and working with the existing plane set.
Ack-Ack
-
I don't think they are working on re-skining the planes. The skins were already made in high resolution, they were just "lowered to AH standard".
-
I heard somewhere that we would be able to have custom skins in AH2. Anyone else hear anything on this?
-

actually , they are all new planes in ah2
-
yes there will be costum skins and how would either of you know only ht and proy would know and they wont tell you guys anything about new planes most likely they will give you both sides to confuse you
-
Do you want to wait AH2 2 month longer because of new planes, or get it with old planes, but 2 months earlier?
I prefer 1st one.

My vote
A working AH2 first, get any bugs tracked and removed, new planes etc can wait.
-
I have to agree with bfreek. I just got done playing IL-2, and the more I play it, the more I realize how important it is to pay close attention to modeling the little stuff, like the 109g-2 nearly rattles appart wehn you let loose with those gunpods.
Now I know what is a stable gun platform, by knowing what is not.
-
No new planes? Ever? Or are the plans basically for porting the AH aircraft into AH-II first and then progressing from there? That's what others seem to think and I to believe that is thier plan.
I could not fathom HTC not working on and including additional aircraft into AH-II in the near term (after AH II/TOD goes into payed production) unless they're intending on branching out into another genre (I don't put any stock into that at all) or are losing staff (certainly hope not).

They are going to be re-doing the 3d models (ala what was done with spits and 51s a while back). This will require some 'tweaking' to the skins.
AH2 isn't just an upgrade. It's a top to bottom remodel of the game. With the staff that HTC has, no new planes should not be a surprise. Maybe EA should buy AH, then they would have more staff to make new stuff for the "short attention span" crowd.... no... wait... been there...done that...NEVERMIND :D.

Mucky. That's not news .. or even a secret. HT & co have said all along that they were not going to be working on any additional plane or vehicle models until after the release of AHII (possibly even after some patches).
The sky ain't falling ... relax. :D
-
I'll be glad if AH2 has all the planes we currently have in the planeset. That in itself would be an industry first.

I'm fine with the planeset we have. Hell. I've not even flown half the planes we already have. If they never added another plane it would be fine with me. I was simply inquiring as to whether or not this was true.
Thanks.

The FM is being redone. This should give us a bit to play with. Also Pyro said that the new engine would allow aircraft to be added more rapidly than in the past, so I'd expect that we will see some new aircraft this year.
Given the breadth of the AH2 update I'm more than ready to forgive the lack of new airframes.

Naaa... As a matter of fact, HTC could probably cull the entire planeset down to 4, maybe 5, and everyone would be perfectly happy.

TY:)

I would like to see some more bombers added after AH2 is out.
-
would you rather wait an extra month or so for AH2 with a couple of new planes or just wait for AH2?
-
Im sure HTC make best choices to bring us workable game as fast as they can.
If we not get new planes on relase its nothing bad. New FM, DM,gunnery will be new for all of us. And of course graphic engine update. Plus new mission arena, "custom" skins, new terrain editor, reworked terrains / not less then, one terrain must be done for MA and one for TOD/ - thats all what we know now.
Maybe guys on convention have more news
Graphic update is huge work. Even if graphic team /Superfly and Natedog/ not give us new planes. They have enough work with new look of AH2. I dont think 3d models need rework, UV maping on them /skin plcement/ need rework no doubts. /mostly on older aircrafts/. BUt hard to say its willl be done before relase AH2 /my bet/ or after that. Anyway step by step we will have better game
My suspition is, new skins will be done by players after relase AH2, old will have incresed resolution/details/ only. And HTC will work on improve AH2 and add new planes asap as we walk thrue early phase of AH2 /all games have bugs, its something what cant be avoid just after relase/.
New planes are not so importand now, more valuable for us will be "what new futures can be plug in to this game". What new can we have based on new engine and codes. All the rest need only time and patience from us /players/
Pyro said in skins topic " ....our resources are best spent in adding new models and improving existing......"
so we can expect new planes soon cuz we need them to balance TOD planeset.

hmm...at this point I don't care abut new planes or better graphics, all I care for is a drastic improvement in gameplay :p

Do you like this ?
<< *Four 20-mm*. Hispano cannon in the fuselage nose and *six 0.303-in.* machine-guns in the wings and one 0.303-in. Vickers "K" or Browning gun in the dorsal position. One *18-in. torpedo* externally under fuselage. *Eight rocket* projectiles could be carried as alternative to the wing guns.>>
One model also had a 75mm cannon if i
remember well. :))
Bring Bristol Beaufighter @ AH.
http://www.aviation-history.com/bristol/beaufite.html
Also the Helldiver, 88's ,mobile artillery and Katiousha type rockets.
And i want this SIREN in the stuka we
have now Even if was NOT exist in this
model. Who will say no to this not realistic modification ? :))
After, lets talk about war :))

Does your Sig make no sense whatsoever... or is it just cause I'm drunk?
-
Well I am half drunk and it sorta makes since....
-
What we need is skillless newbies that flies straight and level so i can improve my hit ratio :D
Well new planes would be nice too.
-

same here, been playing forgotten battles IL2 for a while now and must agree this is the way id want AH2 to go. THe fog/mist and clouds are superb , the explosions and subsiquent lighting up of surronding objects. The way your bullets FEEL as though each individual hit is actually hitting where you aimed.! its a great game.
The only thing it lacks? a decent multiplayer server and the fact its limited to 32 people per host isnt good either. (generally its too laggy with over 16 people!.
SO the obvious answer is to use AH's servers and a graphics engine similar to IL2. Then you would have a truelly remarkable game. After seeing the recent pics of the P51 wing I was a little dissapointed by the ground textures and general look of the landscape, it had that early 90's look to it. We are in the new millenium! lets use the new graphic features! we should be waiting for dirextX 9 effects not just a simple facelift. It needs to push the boundries a little I think.I have a great video card with tonnes of features, Id like to see it put to good use on my favourite game....AH.
If you want to see some great effects in a new game go download the motogp2 demo. Lovely bumpmapped grass and sand textures, the roads look so real you could almost pick the stones out of the tarmac! superb lighting effects on curved surfaces, excellent motion blur effects at high speed!!! , now if they could add this to AH2 WOW what a difference that could make.
-
I second what Hazed said. Just don't add that clownish gun firing flare effect.
-
Could use some Japanese aircraft. Ki-44 Shoki and Ki-84 Hayate come to mind.
Could use more than 2 tanks. Sherman Calliope and Pershing come to mind.
Could use more than 1 kind of player-mannable AA gun. Twin .50s come to mind. 88mm comes to mind, too.

Agree! A "Raiden" would be very nice also. But whatever they do PLEASE hold off on a KI-43 till the last moment. Make Kekule ride the ship down first ;)

Hazed ...
As NoBaddy alluded to, and talking to HiTech at the con, this game has basically been re-written with the intention of bringing AH to the level of realism that all of us would like to see, within reason. With that in mind, you must also realize that HTC will not just go willy nilly throwing all sorts of eye-candy all over the place and degredate the client to server action and re-action. Yes IL2 looks nice, but as you have said yourself, anything more than 16 people and it sucks pond water. Thats the price you pay for TOO much eye candy at this stage of the "game".
HiTech and HTC will be playing a balancing act as they bring AH II out and forward. If eye candy can be done without degredation to the client - server interactions, I believe that HT will do it, eventually, otherwise forget it ... he won't do it.
Oh ... the new micro-terrain does use bumpmapping and it is something that we can turn on/off, and what has already been rendered (trees, bushes, rocks, etc.) looks great. That screen shot does no justice to what the new AH II terrain does/will look like.
