"First, The Rice Eater Concept:
In muscle car circles there has developed in recent years a conception about Japanese cars on American roads (the nefarious 'rice burners'). This concept is based on a long tradition of serious American horsepower and torque (Amen). The basic idea is that an American muscle car or hot rod should, as a matter of principle, be able to take a 'rice burner' in a stop light race. This is particularly true of the rice burners with all of the fancy rear wings, big exhaust tailpipes and 15 stickers on the windows. Now, let me make it clear from the beginning that I do NOT advocate street racing. MANY young souls have passed onto the the Great Drag Strip In The Sky because of street racing. Happens all of the time (don't let your soul be one of them... use your head). But the passing of these souls doesn't seem to alter the basic necessity of the principle in the minds of those who still own powerful American cars. Bottom line: We should be able to take these rice burner punks at will. That being said, once you have actually taught one of these rice burners a lesson you can say, with barrel chested pride, that you have eaten your first bowl of rice. This is the Rice Eater Concept. You will see and hear this rice bowl concept fairly often in muscle car circles. The goal, of course, is to eat as much rice as possible, as this is good for the soul (Confucius, 499 B.C. ...a man who ate a lot of rice.)"

Bring it on. No stickers or big tailpipes here. Better run under 14.5 if you want a shot at me. And don't mess up your launch, AWD rules. :)

You say that like it's a bad thing. :)

You don't just drive that thing straight, do ya?
Man, you know you are driving when you are airborne and your wifes face is plastered to the window in the curves.

More proof that Subaru's are GAY! (http://www.warroom.com/gaysubaru.htm)
Subaru has been so successful at attracting gay customers that some drivers consider themselves members of a "club," in which fellow Subaru owners share an implied message behind their cars' brand.

Me too! (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/images/smilies/driving%20and%20shifting.gif)
But I respect guys like Frenchy that enjoy true straight line speed. To each their own! G-forces back into the seat or sideways around the corners, its all goodness!

I would love to race all of you, but you have to com to San Antonio to do it.

I am not sure what that cage will do, but if it cant do a 1/4 mile in 10.5 seconds, and carve curves at two times the posted speed, then its best to just stay at home:D

Let me put it this way, if your bike can't do 205 mph, leave IT at home :p

Not if you are driving that "Death" Machine;)

Who cares about cars anyway?
There's nothing like hearing engine over-revving after boat become airborn at 40knots after hitting some bigger waves on the sea :D

ah... I see frenchy has discovered the wonderful world of torque and big blocks in his 455... It is addicting.
Put a six speed behind that 455 and hotchkiss suspension... bilstein shocks... Baer brakes... that is my next mod... even with the kevlar shoes and pads on the elky it doesn't stop any better than a stock BMW.. I want to put the baer 2 piston front discs and the baer single piston rears on but.... about $2,000.
Nothing says that muscle cars can't stop and handle well. A good job should run in the 12's with no problem... stop in around 100' at 60 and be within about 5% of the lap times of a BMW m3 say, on a tight course.. 200mph is not out of the question for a big block with tall gears and a six speed naturaly aspirated. they do it in Nevada "run what ya brung" races all the time...
Downside... 8-14 mpg..... the shoebox will never feel as stable at high speed as a slippery car... you know you are going fast when you do over 130 or so in one.. Money... you can spend a lot. Insurance.. hard to get coverage for theft and such.. Attention... if you don't like talking to people, don't get a muscle car... If you don't like total strangers waving and smiling at yu all the time get a new car.. Don't expect to not learn about cars and own a muscle car..

I know what you mean here... I get the same thing driving my mini.
BWAHAHAHAHA! That's funny. Just had to find a way to get a plug for the mini into a Muscle Car thread.
BTW Lazs... do you have an IRS in the back of the Healy?
MiniD
-
don't worry deja... in about 3 years no one will even notice your mini. they will be as "different" as PT cruisers are now.
no... I don't have IRS in the healey. It's not that great of an idea for the car. Not a lot of room for anything robust enough to handle 400hp... I have a narrowed chevy ten inch with mosler axels and danna 40 spiders if that helps. The car is also a drum brake car... all the way around... the Healeys had more brake surface area than early ferarris.. No one ever complained about the brakes.. drums will fade tho. I wouldn't want to roadrace the car but on the street.... good enough for the girls I go out with.
lazs
-
Nah... PT Cruisers were selling 10,000 per month. Minis are selling 10-15k per year. They won't saturate the market as badly.
I think it will do more like the "prowler". It will always draw looks... and rednecks pulling up in their 6" lift F250 to ask how much that car cost.
As for something being too small for an IRS... never really heard of that before. I'd assume it's full frame so it should be doable. Hell... even if you have to get one of those BMW rear ends.
MiniD
-
lazs, what healey you talking about?
Austin Healey?
-
well... I think you missed my point. The only IRS rears capable of taking the HP are huge. Also.. Healeys don't have a conventional frame it is sheet metal and sorta like a "birdcage" frame... Nothing to weld to if you chop the rear section out. also... the car is low. real low.. and with a low trunk and no rear wheel well area to speak of.. irs demands a lot of room to work.
Every healey conversion I have seen was awful and not worth the effort. Go carts don't have IRS. It isn't really needed and I don't want to get too far away from the Healey "feel" It just wouldn't be worth it. I have seen some new 9" ford center sections that are fitted up for stub axles.. they are tempting but no... the healey will never be a super handler.. It wasn't meant to be.

no furball.... mine is a 1955 bn1. It is a two seat roadster not the four seat convertable shown. They look a lot alike but mine has no door handles and it has a folding windshield. Mine also has a 331 chevy and muncie 4 speed. The car is called a "100 4"
fur.. If you would like I could email you a picture of the car if you don't know what they look like.

Sounds like a mean machine. I still aint skeered though. BTW, Mine cost $5500 USD, how much that cage cost? :p

Got a pic of Lazs Healey, I hope he doesn't mind if I post that pic (http://www.kolumbus.fi/staga/2002_0331_005738AA.jpg).

Lazs, get a better of your healy, pweeze!

errr my friends had a primer-red Caddy Cabriolet '60 and usually girls did run away when they saw that car coming.
hmm what was that one slogan again... "If it don't run, chrome it"...
-
the primer thing is an old Hot Rodder deal. The paint was never that important.. When you were allways pulling the front clip or suspension or whatever you didn't want to worry about the paint... even tearing the motor down is hard on custom paint jobs... a few squirts with the rattle can and you are back on the road with primer... small cars, like the Healey and Model A roadsters are especialy good to keep in primer.
In my modified Healey club most of the guys have very expensive paint jobs but a lot of em have said that they wished they had just primed the damn thing and called it good... Plus... I love to hear people tell me what a great car it will be when I get it "finished".
lazs
-
So when you going to go "primer" with the El Camino? ;)
MiniD
-
Ahhh.... the elky.... The elky was painted when I got it and....
supossedly (trying to fool myself here) the elky is my "dependable" car... it is not a Hot Rod. "supossedly", I built it for dependability. I know this may sound a little strange to some in light of the 468 big block but... It has a "mild" cam... 9.0/1 pistons.. dual plane intake and 850 edelbrock carb... even has an electric choke and a vintage air air conditioner.
The car came out good... the 6 speed just happened (gto gave me a good deal) the suspension and brakes I just "improved" a little... Really tho... the car is dependable. The paint is not all that good but is fairly easy to care for. With a car this big (this much surface area) it is easier to have paint on it.. I have no qualms about squirting primer on any spots that need it. I might even take the thing in and get a new paint job on it when it needs it.... course "needs" means something different to all of us.
lazs
-
Hehehe... the paint looks just fine on the El Camino. I've never been a proponent of expensive paint jobs, but I can't say that paint doesn't make a car look better. With some cars it matters, with others it doesn't. The healey would definately look better with a real paint job... but if that's not what you're going for... then why bother.
MiniD
-
Paint never had anything to do with performance, thats true Lazs.
However, if it *is* painted, there are plenty of products on the market to protect that finish regardless of how many engine installs you do.

Chicks dig trucks

MT... you are right but as allways... only to a point.. chicks dig trucks but... Only ones they can picture themselves driving. Around here they all drive luxo/hot trucks but I have been told by several women that they don't want to drive my elky... they say it looks and sounds...."evil" which is kinda the effect I was going for come to think of it.
