People love to hate NAZI's - its the way the world works.

If there is something that will always make good news are war, nazi's, president assasinations, and wack Jacko

If this is true, it is very very interesting. Imagine they find 109's and FW's in these bunkers :)

on N24 news they talk about planes. They did not specify if fighters or bombers. http://www.n24.de Scroll down on the first page.

If they find planes down there, they could be in a very good condition. The air temperature is stable down there, its dry air.
So it miht be that the planes are in an exelent condition, little rust eg. Its dark there so they are not bleched eg.

I find it bit unlikely there would be planes.. just a feeling.

It'd be very interesting if they would find an undiscovered underground aircraft factory... there were quite many of those around germany.
Talk about possible museum planes and loads of spare parts for those :D

I fail to see how any plane would survive on the surface after the Soviet attack, assuming it was the soviets who hid all this weaponry.

i am assuming the bunkers are still intact and not destroyed. If they had been sealed there is a big chance they will find them in very good shape. All depends on how intact the bunkers are.
and of course if overall there are planes inside.

But the planes were apparently put there by the Soviets after the fall of Berlin - it 's nothing to do with the state of the bunkers, more how the planes survived during the fight for the city and airport, before they were placed in storage.

It would be cool if there was something worth salvaging.

Considering the condition some wrecks are before they end up being restored to flying condition, ideally any a/c stored in these bunkers would be a goldmine. The spares alone would be worth a fortune.

But I can't imagine they would start tearing up the airport on anything less than a certainty..perhaps ground radar?

That's true.

Could you penetrate concrete with that geophys radar thing?

If they find any planes down there, and if they are in a good condition its worth any action taken to get them out.

No way you'd get me to go into a bunker containing live WW2 munitions.  Talk about unstable explosives...

Imagine if Saddam used a similar bunker to hide the WMD....

Could it take 60 years?

Not only did the commissars intern munitions beneath the runways, but also entire Nazi fighter planes, all fuelled and fully bombed-up, according to the Stasi.

MT...a serious question if I may?

If coalition forces find WMD's as described by the Bush Admin, I'm curious as to how you will react.

Also, UN weapon inspectors verified specific quantities of WMD's in 98....what do you think happened to them?

Not trying to play games here, I'm merely interested in your response.

Thanks

if they found WMD like bush thought they had then i wouldnt be so critical of the president. but rude what of the weopon inspectors of 2002 that inspected the sites where it was destroyed, and said they had none? what are they chopped liver?

Rude,

I would be very happy if WMD are found. I would feel better about our leadership, and I would stop feeling this growing sense of betrayal and spin that seems to be coming from Washington.

i'm pretty sure seismic testing and geo-radars can reveal the existence of a bunker.. if not whats in 'em to boot.

hehe from the same paper:
"PM backs democracy for Hong Kong" - the Brits were decidedly less keen on democracy when they ran the place. ;)

I don't believe that's what they said....didn't they say they had found none to date and then were not allowed to look further?

Can't remember exactly.

I think you took my observation regarding the 60 years as anti-war. It was just the opposite. If Hitlers planes can remain hidden for 60 years, maybe WMD can also? Possible.

I would bet the shelf life of Bio or Chem weapons would far outlive a metal:)

Sorry if I was presumptious....it's just you being a flaming liberal and all.:)

According to Scott Ritter (so you might want a second opinion) the Anthrax Iraq made has a shelf life (in optimal storage conditions) of 3 years, the VX gas 1-8 days and their Sarin and Tabun have a shelf life of 5 years. Mustard gas can be stored for decades - although with a lot of care and checking as it is quite corrosive. The old hangar that my unit worked out of in Germany had 1 level above ground and 3 levels sealed off below ground. There were supposedly several aircraft in the below ground levels, but they were sealed off because they were flooded (supposedly). Anyways, it was pretty cool to work above that.
