With all that outward display of masculinity, I feel sorry for his Wife. If you know what I mean;) Looks like a midlife crisis

Almost a direct copy of the BMW 507 from a few years earlier! ;)

I'd rather have the original design rather than some Cobra copy ';)

Ok Rip, if someone approaches me, asking me if I think you'd like a Cobra as a gift, I'll make sure to tell them that you're not interested.

Uhmmm,...that Cobra in MT's photo is a reproduction, not an original.

I'd buy a house in the Carribean (with chef and maids) also with dock for a large motor cruiser, a Nissan Skyline GTR, a Subaru Impreza R22, Aston Martin Vantage and aquire an expensive taste in good food and wine.

Tires are too skinny - you call that a contact patch?  Front end is too short - lets in too much air underneath.  Needs the side windshields, legpipes, and American V8 muscle power.

Look through the front wheelwell.  Do you see the frame strut?  Nope.

The Halibrands are fake too.  They are not knock-offs.  The orginal knockoffs had a hex nut on the top of the spinner.  These don't.  The original Halibrands were also black, not polished center.

The original did not have chromed side-pipes.  The side pipes were covered with a chrome sleve for the production car only, but the headers going into the side pipes were not chromed, nor was the exhaust tip.

The windshield frame, where it is attached to the cowling is not curved in this model.  The 427 had a more bubble hood and cowling to clear the engine.  The top of the windshield frame was also curved in the original.

In the proper stance the tops of the rear tires were not visible on the production model.

Those front bumpers do not look right, but I would need a fuller front view to be sure.

The color is also incorrect.  The original 'red' Cobra (only produced in 1966) was more orange than red.

Surely Rip is not foolish enough to think the wimpy BMW compares to the 427 Cobra in any aspect of desirability?

the pipes were made of stainless on the originals and compleatly smooth no glass pack bubble in them . (I have worked on 3 sets of the original pipes and we get a pretty penny for repairing them)
alot of the small block pipes came painted though.
I have to agree w/ Skuzzy alot of stuff looks wrong on that one , as for ive worked on originals befor (small blocks only )

I wish some one would bring me a FE model for awhile :D

hate to spoil it, but cobra styling is actually from the AC Ace, unveiled 1954.

The BMW 507 had its debut at the 1955 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Win the Lotto?

Step 1:

Step 2: (To put a smile on my dad's face)

To drive... pah... just about anything with a good airconditioner and  lots of room for four 6'4" people would do.

Yep, and the Ace is nearly a copy of a Ferrari 375 Mille Miglia.  We've had this discussion before.  :)

Skuzzy may be right, but the owner said it was a real Cobra... 1965.

Maybe it's been modified a bit.

Doesn't matter much anyways.  A lot of the replicas are quicker and better handling than the originals.

He may have been sold a bill of goods MT.  That car is not an original.....it may have some original parts in it (Ford did sell the die-cast 'Cobra' emblem on the dash until about 1975).

He claims it is a 65?  Ok,..the only front bumpers for the 65 model were the extended push-bars.  The bumpers in that picture were not available until 66 and I am not sure they are correct, but the rounded ends give it away as not being a 65.

Furball,..anyone that knows what a torque wrench is, knows the AC Cobra was derived from the original stampings of the AC (hench the name AC Cobra).

It's not just a show either, they actually race.  Some of the guys take it easy, but usually the top 5-10 guys in each class are actually racing.  Some great matchups, Ferrari GTO vs Cobra, Jag vs Mercedes, etc.
Open paddock too, so you can stick your nose all around and inside the cars.  Lots of big racing names like Shelby and Gurney and Hill etc.  Good place to get autographs.

Only to a collector that knows which would fetch more money. (Trust me, the 507 is worth more ;) )

Let me clarify:
The Boy in me says "COBRA! RRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm!!!!"
The investor in me says "507"

I do not have the numbers for the 507, but the last original AC Cobra race car that was sold (several years ago), went for $750,000.00 U.S. (public auction).
If I recall correctly, there are 7 of the original AC Cobra race cars left in the world (might be 8).

A 1957 507 hasn't been sold for years apparently, but it one of the  most in demand pieces of collecting and is only rarely offered for sale at an auction (its usually done privately). (Shrugs)

Incidently, did you see that news clip about the most money a US muscle car fetched recently (apparently a record)...it was some rare 69 Camaro with some type of Hemi motor in it, only 6 were built.  Funny, I thought only Hemi's came in Chysler products.  Anyway, it sold for something like $950,000 !

I think the Cobra looks a lot better.... I would love to have one.

You guys remember about 15 years ago some Cobra's were built from original factory parts and legally had the titles listed as from the original production date?

Didn't Cali catch Shelby doing that and fined him really heavily? I think he got in tons of trouble over it but I don't remeber where I read it.

Yup, but i was concerned with the dates, where rip was saying the shelby was a copy of the bmw in terms of styling.  The AC Ace was built first.
