that looks like a plane that was designed in 5 mins...

"We need something that will beat the p38, or at least look like it"

"Ok, we'll just strap on another engine and fuselage, and fuze the tails and wings together."

WHAT BENEFITS WOULD THAT PLANE HAVE OVER A REGULAR 109?
DID THEY REALLY NEED IT?

The North American aircraft company followed the same design (independently) to produce the P-82 Twin Mustang, which was two P-51 fuselages joined in a similar manner as the Me 109Z.

The B-82 twin Mustang was built for long duration flights over water in the Pacific theater.  The reason for the two pilots was for pilot fatigue issues.  I don't have all of the specific details on its performance and endurance.  Does anyone want to add more info?

So, what was the Bf-109 Zwillig designed for?  Obviosly not for the same reasons as the P-82, since there is only 1 cockpit.  Perhaps it had a tremendous climbrate for bomber interception?

Interesting website.  It still doesn't answer the basic question "why?".  What problem are they trying to solve?
