Yikes!

Might I suggest taking the MSF (or, in california, the MCS) course in motorcycle safety?  I rode for years before I took it, but it made a big difference in my riding.

Looks almost identical to what happened to my roomate's brother when I was in University.  The guy begged and begged for about 2 years for my roomate to let him have a ride.  He finally agreed on one summer day.

After my roomate got it fixed (at his own expense) he sold it.

LOL

Why did the guy accelerate after he was headed toward the tree? Poor tree didn't do anything to deserve that.

Good thing helmets aren't required, right?

Too much bike, not enough sense.

Ouch, Lucky that tree was there, otherwise he would never have stopped:eek:  It's amazing how many people new to bikes do that. The instinct is to hang on tight, a bad instinct when the throttle in on the grip! LOL

Hitting the tree reminded me of an incident years ago. I was in work looking out the office window one lunchtime. Two mechanics, no helmets, shot past on a Yamaha RD350LC. ( A great bike, had one myself for years. A two stroke hand grenade!) disappearing around a corner. At this moment the effluent storage tank in the yard exploded with a bang while simultaneously and coincidentally a big tree on the line of the road shook vigourously.  The guys had failed to negotiate the corner and collected the tree.  They returned blood streaming from minor cuts sans bike to be greeted by the company nurse who seeing the effluent tank damaged put two and two together made five and declared a full emergency.

It was hilarious when everyone calmed down! It was just one of those crazy coincidences. The kicker though was the neither owned the bike.

Sold my Yamaha YZF that way.

Some knucklehead tells me that he's been riding for 10 years, and wants to take it for a spin to see how it runs before he'll consider buying it. Like an idiot, I agree to it if I can ride along with him on my other bike.

So off we go. I take a curve and pull up to a stop sign. He's nowhere to be seen. I backtrack and find him on the side of the road, my bike halfway in the woods, and pieces of the fairings in the middle of the street. Apparently he hit a puddle and lost control and dumped the bike.

Thank God he was honest enough to buy it. He said "Well, it used to run great, I'll take it".
