Rip could easily put something like that together for $5k. Haven't you ever been to a Boeing surplus sale?
-
Boeing.. heh.. all I have is here Martin/Lockheed.. and I've never heard of a surplus sale...plus I'm a stone toss from their missle plant..lol I don't think I want that type of surplus.
-
It was a joke, sorry. :)
-
I have no wife telling me when to stop spending money. I have the feeling that I may not be done yet :>)
Out of control with cars!!
The first sentence is all I need to know.
I wonder what his living room furniture and bedroom set look like. Kitchen is probably whatever came with the house. I'll bet he has only 1 bathroom and its really, really small.
My garage is filled with Tupperware boxes of books while the computer room is filled with 200 Barbie dolls. Got a nice living room set and bedroom set and the 2nd bathroom just got a new vanity.
Meanwhile, I bought a $30 canopy so I won't have to work on my 4Runner in the hot sun anymore.
Oh yeah, did I mention I'm married and all big ticket expenditures go before the House Appropriations Committee (of which it seems I'm but a junior member).

Gezz Go..I would never admit to having 200 barbie dolls :D

Hehe, yeah, and to think "my obsession" was for more space for my kids to play, and the wife to do her demonstrations for her business in.... I'd die for a garage like that! Not enough disposible income :(
-
Aww, poor Rip...I *almost* felt sorry for you, and maybe even a wee choked up....but it passed ;)

I think there are a few Boeing people in this forum that can speak for the "Disneyland of Do-it-yourself" Boeing Surplus store. :)(God knows Boeing wastes enough crap! Gotta get rid of it somewhere)

Let me put it this way, had I not had kids, I'd have plenty of disposible income! :D
-
Well, it shame's Rips on many levels...not the least of which are two Vipers and a Ferrari sitting inside of it! :D
But both garages are to CLEAN! IMO, it just ain't a garage unless there is an oil stain on the floor.
-
If oil stains and cobwebs are the criteria, then I have the greatest garage in the world!!
-
Ain't no way in h*** a car's gonna fit in my garage.

Painted garage floors are for girls who never wrench their car.

Maybe because I take good care of them and never have to wrench on them? ;)
-
Hehe, I knew you'd respond to that. :) Painted floors are overrated. Even the best epoxy paint isn't durable like bare concrete. People try to be hip and paint their garage floor. A few years of wear and it looks crappy. Paint it again, etc etc. We have the estimating part of our shop painted epoxy gray. It's ok as long as you keep it clean. Rolling a jack across it marks it up though. We have to mop it weekly to keep it looking good. The rest of the shop we put the oil based sweeping compound down and it makes the bare 13-yr old concrete shine like it was poured last month. :)
Those garages are cool looking. But the second one is more a shrine than a garage. A place to look at the rides and hang out. They're both cool to look at.

Agreed! and you're spot on about the floor paint, my 3rd stall has concrete floor paint (its the "working" stall where I do all my dirty work and my work bench and tools are located) and its chipping after 2 years.

My friend's company is specialized on two-component floor coatings and they've made floors on oil-refineries, harbours, ice breakers etc etc.
It's very durable, slightly elastic, not slippery (even with water on it), doesn't care if you pour oil , chemicals or gasoline on it, translucent if you'd like to paint a logo under it or it can be mixed with any colour you like.
Only bad thing is it's not the cheapest option for floors :D

That is frikken awesome.
How could you possibly make fun of this guy? Some of you make wooden cockpits for a Golly-geen video game.

I know, just busting your balls. It's the National Pastime around here. :)
In the town where I grew up, we have a nuclear lab, really big complex that designed like half of the nuclear arsenal. Everybody's dad had one or more expensive pieces of equipment they got from the salvage sales. One guy's dad built a whole machine shop in the back yard.
-
I wonder if that guy is rich?
-
Calm down sourdaker. I said it was cool to look at. Just pointin out that concrete is more durable on a shop floor. What's cockpits got to do with anything?
-
Heh..Wait till I post some pix of my nearly completed music studio with it's Tex-Mex wall mural, two drum kits and control room...

My comments was in response to the 'obsession' bit thrown at Rip. If I had time to 'BMW up' my garage, you bet I would. :D
Cant fault a man for taking his hobby seriously.
