Title: cpu temp too high

I have a overheating problem I have a k7n420pro mb,athlon xp2000 cpu an my cpu temp gets to 140F (60c) quite quickly when playing AH(stays at 54 when not playing) I have 1 80mm fan in back,cpu fan,and a video card fan . I think I might need a new case there is no more room to put any more fans any ideas on what kind a case to get.Or do I have another problem(I throughly cleaned it out  thinking that was the problem) but still overheats.

Yo,
Cleaned it as in dusted HSF and area around ?? If so you may wanna take sink off n redo thermal paste (arctic silver 2/3)

If it's a generic "patch type pad" on the HS i suggest lapping block down (fine paper) and getting some AS2-3 and apply per instructions

Mention no OC'ing so i am thinking the coolers with a generic (bubblegum looking square pad)

If you have used thermal paste have you put too much on/is the bottom of block nice n smooth or jagged ?

If ya do need lapping advice etc email or post it's pretty simple n really does help with a good thermal paste

Anyways dont panic hitting 60c if ya aint clocking chip

With a lapping and say AS3 you should get it down to about 50c anyways

Btw is 80mm forcing in or out ? (psu fan is exiting i assume ? had an older psu drawing air in so it helped raise interior temps with the heat of psu gizzards  lol)

Hey Keyapaha; In that thread I linked above I put some pictures of a case I bought at Newegg.com for $89. Its now $85 but it costs a bit more on shipping now. They have a great case selection from really cheap and hard to work with the very expensive and all in between. Try the Artic Silver suggestion first and then maybe a new case will help spread the heat out and allow more fans in place.

FYI...I have a AMD Athlon XP 2800+ on a MSI KN7 board. My CPU temps jumped to the 63C levels. Four case fans Volcano 9 Quick silver ...everthing I tried did nothing. Finally found out my BIOS were not compatible with my CPU. I did a BIOS flash from the AMD site and Life got good again.  36c at idle.....40c under extreme load. Worked for me...although Flashing your BIOS should be a last ditch effort. Ask around.

I hadn't heard about that issue Excaliber. Nice info for the future. I have several customers who like MSI motherboards for their AMD rigs.

Hiya's,
Asus mobo's also tend to have a higher bios temp cpu reading, Especially the old KT133/266 ones

Different bios's would report on average a 10c diff   lol

I tested temps with asus a7v and bios read 10c higher/lower with different bios's but the actual cpu temp never altered anywhere near 10c or whatever diff bios's reported

Amd's run hotter t'is a fact, People must realise they are quoted to well above 65c but main prob is the hotter they run the shorter their lifespan, But who's gonna worry about keeping a cpu nowadays for more than say 3yrs   ;) ??
