i miss the old map rotation (winning war = next map)
atleast when it was pizza, or whichever map you detest it would give incentive to win the war.
but due to whiners we must spend a week at a time on maps we dont like.
-
ROFL - I take it Pizza is up now - good. :)
Urch, you really shouldn't whine. Some of us like the big maps. I enjoy the pizza. The map rotation right now is as fair as it possibly can be. In view of that, I think people should have the good grace not to post map whine threads.

Perhaps I misunderstood, but I thought the reason for the rotation was because maps like this could take weeks to win. If it rotates in a week then at least you know it will end in a reasonable amount of time.

At least with this rotation u know you only have to wait 1 week. I can remember a couple pizza maps being there for 3 weeks :(

Hehe ... c'mon, guys. When's the last post of Urchin's that wasn't a whine? It's just his nature. I'd suggest his flying the Okinawa CT but he'd find something that gives him a bellyache there too, I'd wager. ;)
See ya up when everything is perfect, Urch. :D

IMO, the small maps are a real pain.
With 300+ online, the small maps are giant furballs. They have a relatively short borderline, und half of the fields close to the borderline are bombed out of fuel. So its almost impossible to find a field which is not being attacked or defended with at least 30-40 players.
No question...i have no problems with furballers. But when the maps are so small that i dont have the choice if i want to furball or not, then it becomes less enjoyable.
Modestly, Trinity is the best map of all. Its well balanced and fun to play.
Except.....not to forget Lasz ;)....there should be some clusters of fields which are closer together.

The bases are too high.
But it does look like the terrain colors have been worked on.
you can see the ground better and it less eye strain.
So all in all it aint my favorite map but it is more than playable.
And you must admit it is different:D
-
actually on this (the first day of pizza) bishops are 10 bases away from being wiped out as i type this.

You should throw a hissy fit, post a thread saying you're going to quit, then come back the next day with a really cool name like "AHDEITY" or some toejam and post compromising photos of yourself frolicking with other "friends"

ROFL! Who is that AHGOD guy?
I agree with ecke-109, although Pizza is my favourite map. I know it's hard on the eyes sometimes, and I've had to modify my colours, but you get high alt fields - great for launching P47, where it excels. LA7 is not the pest it normally is at the lower alts. Plenty of GV battles - more than on any other map - but also fights and field captures.
-
Yes,, the alt monkeys get a leg-up.
Only good thing about it is, if you're flying a 202 or 205 your enemy is already too blind to see you in a B26, so it gets stealth.

Seven Maps.
Four of them, the small ones, are up for a total of one week, rotating through the four during that week. Being overly generous, let's say the average small map gets two days of play per month.
The three large ones are up for a solid week each.
Thats "as fair as it possibly can be"? Well, I guess it is if your personal bias allows you to insult the small maps with the "children's map" label.
It would seem that perhaps a 28 day rotation with each map up for 4 straight days or even a 35 day rotation with each map getting 5 straight days would be more fair.
Except of course for those that really don't want it to be "fair".
-
nothing fair about a week of pizza and a couple of hours each for the small maps. Infinity too a whole week of that one.
ecke.. I know you are trying to be fair and serious but really... How can you not avoid furballs on the small maps? I guess you and I have different ideas of what a furball is because on the small maps it allways looks to me like most of the areas are desserted.

A modest person from what I know. Who will fly the 202 against anyone and still have fun.

I realize I'm by no means an experienced player, but it seems like a week of small maps, and a week of a large map is about as fair as it gets. People complain that the small maps don't have room for the large number of people who get on during prime time, and others complain that the large maps lead to timid playing and lack of furballs.
In your "fair" scenario the large maps would get less playing time then they do now. It would be 3/7 large maps and 4/7 small ones if I understand what you are saying.

Also my math might be wrong here, but in a given month we have 2 weeks of small maps right? That would be 14 days.
14(days)/4(maps) = 3.5 days average for small map in a given month. Of course it depends on how quickly they get reset, some may last longer than others.

joe.. there are two large maps not one and... the small maps are all different.. most people like some small maps over others... their favorite small map doesn't get equal time. Every map should get equal time to be fair. change em every day.

Lasz,
I guess you and I have different ideas of what a furball is because on the small maps it allways looks to me like most of the areas are desserted.
They look desserted to you?
Whenever i log in at US prime time, there are at least 300+ online.
And on the small maps, that is really a lot, imo.
I dont care flying 25-30 mls for a nice 1vs1 fight. But whenever i find one or two enemies to fight against, i know for shure, it only needs 1 min or less, to be surrounded by a whole bunch of them.
I love to fly the lone wolf thing and i enjoy participating in small, maybe sneaky, missions. And this is hard to realize on the overcrowded small maps.
I guess, you also noticed that 'ant trail syndrome' on the small maps?
Especially the islands map and the baltic map comes to my mind. And also the map with the heart shaped sea in the middle.
Why are there ant trails? Because at lots of the fields close to the borderline the fuel has been bombed down. And all players are upping from the few fields which have enough fuel AND are close enough to enemy bases without flying at least two sectors or more.
Thats why i prefer the bigger maps. They offer a greater range of opportunities how to play the game.

Actually, aren't there three large maps now...Big Isles, Pizza and the revised Beta?
I guess this map making is hard to do in a way that all styles of gameplay are fed....I just deal with it the best I can.
It's a good thing I don't own this chicken ranch or I'de be killin chickens(only the sick ones of course)

New Terrain Rotation
We have changed the rotation system for the terrains.
Each Friday we will reset to a new terrain as we have been doing, but when we hit the small terrains, we will have all 4 of the current terrains in auto-rotation.
After a week of the small terrains, we will reset to the large terrains, which will stay up one week at a time.
Here is the scheme:
Small Terrains for one week: Baltic, Ndisles, Mindinao, Sfma
Large Terrain for one week: Trinity
Large Terrain for one week: BigIsles
Large Terrain for one week: AKDesert
This way allows all terrains to be rotated through in one month rather than the 7 weeks we were doing.

Sounds fair to me.. and reasonable.

Obviously, 2 days of each small map is fair and reasonable when each big map gets 7 days.
If you look at it with "big map bias" and don't allow conflicting opinions from other paying players to bother you.

I apologize Toad, I completly misread the map rotation. I thought it was 1 week of rotating small maps, then 1 big map, and then back to rotating small maps. Thank you for clearing it up for me.

Considering the big maps werent made with a goal of being reset in 2-3 days, i think it's perfectly reasonable.
-
AFAIK, none of the maps were made with any sort of "days till reset" goal with the possible exception of Trinity.
You'll find this hard to believe, but there are actually other paying customers that would prefer playing a week of Mindinao or Ndisles to a week of AKdesert.
But, hey... that's not fair, is it?

Well, back in the golden ages, the maps were switched wehn they were reset.
-
Rutilant, check who you were responding to. Lazs2 is the ultimate air-quaker, he doesn't care what anyone else does unless it interferes with his goal of constant furballing.
Fair enough, really, just that's why he doesn't care about rotation, as far as I can tell.
-
Yeah, but ya gotta give me credit for still tryin.
I dislike the small maps because they're boring, a fight between the same old 2 or 4 fields for a week is monotonous and they don't promote 'furballs', they just give the steamrollers a bigger effect. bigest furball i was ever in on any small map was at most 10 planes. The biggest furball i was ever in on a large map was 30+ planes between field 39 on trinity and the one northwest of it, lasted for a good 3 hours.. Now THAT was a furball i enjoyed. (and i wasnt even in a jabo craft) Saw good variety of aircraft, no 262s at all, all over the water and niether field was porked! maybe the key to good furballing is water, and no altitude variation..
or on pizza, on the NE corner of the NW slice, near the port, a CV parked off there (and there was one of them newbs panicking) and there was a good hour and a half long massive furball.. got to take out some planes i hadnt tried before, got some kills, chased Artlaw's P51 in my 109G10 and made him auger (i got lucky as heck, and i'm not whinin about him runnin, i was at D800-1k the whole time, i can't blame him ;))
Maybe i just never had any fun on the small maps, and have all my fun on the big ones.
Variety is the spice of life, and small maps have very little..
-
I would like to see all the maps have equal time.... I would get rid of pizza tho or simply change all the vehicle fields into airfields. reset is irrelevant. I don't think I've seen more than 2 resets the whole time I've been in AH. Waste of time resets are.
