Title: damage model question - damage limit?

If an non HE bullet hits some unarmored part of an aircraft, is there a limit of how much damage it can do no matter how much energy it carries?

Imagine a bullet hitting a wing from below, easily passing through it and exiting on the upper side. Does it's kinetic energy make a difference in that case in AH?
